Joy Reid accuses ‘cheap, sleazy' Piers Morgan of ambushing her in new interview

Former MSNBC host Joy Reid accused Piers Morgan on Wednesday of ambushing her in a new interview and said the British media host was 'obsessed' with race baiting for his 'very white audience.'
On her podcast, 'The Joy Reid Show,' Reid laid into Morgan after she was soured by her experience as a guest commentator on 'Piers Morgan Uncensored' the day before.
Before the contentious interview was set to air on Thursday afternoon, Reid went on the offensive, accusing Morgan of 'luring' her onto his show under the false premise that they would discuss her new YouTube show and the politics of the day.
Instead, she said, his team had compiled pre-edited clips, dredged up past controversies, and confronted her with accusations that she was a race baiter.

'The interview, which drops [Thursday], was a cheap, sleazy, very Piers Morgan pivot to take the heat off of the right and Trump and put it right where the right needs to be, on the Black lady,' Reid claimed.

Reid said she believed it was important to talk to people on the other side. But she claimed that Morgan's team 'lured' her onto the show with the idea they were going to have a fair discussion about President Donald Trump's policies and other news, as well as her new media show. Reid shared a screenshot of an email as evidence of this.
While she said she didn't expect Morgan to strictly stay on those topics, she also didn't expect the host to bring up her controversial blog posts from over 15 years ago or to ask her to respond in real-time to a conservative commentator who allegedly accused her of stoking racial hatred while she was at MSNBC.

'This was pre-planned because they had edited pieces ready for it,' she said. 'He never misses an opportunity to play gotcha with Black guests on his podcast, whom he, like other right-wing podcasters, use as fodder to keep their very White audiences angry and paranoid and clicking.'
In 2017, Reid's resurfaced blog posts from 2007-2009 containing offensive homophobic remarks and anti-gay jokes made headlines.

Reid apologized at the time, although she also claimed hackers had placed the offending remarks on her old blog but later admitted she had no evidence that happened.
'Dredging up an eight-year-old story about a 16-year-old blog post is a hell of a way to justify insanely offensive Nazi quoting things that your boy Donald Trump said and fascist actions his regime took like yesterday,' Reid reacted. 'Is that what your show has come to, Piers? Dredging up old news in an effort to make yourself relevant?'
Reid claimed Morgan was 'obsessed' with race and that he was forced out of his 'Good Morning Britain' television gig over his 'relentless, endless obsessive hatred of Megan Markle.'

'So, Piers, I did not get fired from MSNBC over ratings, but I would sure rather it be that than being separated from my show after a massive petition and viewers looked at me as a racist creep,' she said.
Her guest, Nina Turner, a former Ohio state lawmaker who co-chaired the 2020 presidential run of U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., was also a guest on the same episode of 'Piers Morgan Uncensored.' Turner ripped the interview as a 'set up.'
'It was a jump. It was a jump on a Black woman. And I agree with you. They're the ones that are preoccupied with race,' she said of conservative media personalities.

Morgan responded to Reid's claims on X.
'BREAKING: I interviewed Joy Reid last night. It did not go well… for Joy Reid. In fact, it went so badly for her that she's already gone public about how terrible it was, and I am. Apparently, I'm obsessed with race & identity politics,' he said with a laughing emoji.
Morgan's representatives referred Fox News Digital to his social media comments and said he would address the controversy on his upcoming show.

Where do Charlotte City Council candidates stand on new transportation tax?

A majority of Charlotte City Council candidates said on Saturday they support the proposed 1-cent countywide sales tax referendum expected to land on voters' ballots this fall. Two candidates said they did not support the measure, while a handful of others declined to take a firm stance. The referendum would raise billions of dollars to overhaul the region's transportation system by expanding rail lines, addressing a backlog of road projects and improving the bus system. Critics argue the tax won't benefit all people equally and could have unintended consequences. Eighteen candidates who face primary elections in September spoke on Aug. 2 during a forum hosted by the Black Political Caucus of Charlotte-Mecklenburg. At least five incumbents, including five new candidates said they supported the tax. The issue hits close to home for at-large Councilwoman Dimple Ajmera. Her family relied on public transportation to travel to work, school and everything in between, she said. 'Our public transit system is broken. It is not safe. It is not reliable,' Ajmera said. 'We can't afford to have this kind of system that fails working families. Not everyone has a car in the city of Charlotte.' The tax is estimated to raise $20 billion over the next 30 years. If passed, 40% of the new money would go toward road projects, 20% to the region's bus system and 40% to transit projects, including rail. A 27-person board of trustees will lead a newly established public transportation authority to oversee the funds. The Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners will vote Aug. 6 on whether to place the referendum on ballots in November. Ajmera's fellow at-large council members James 'Smuggie' Mitchell and LaWana Mayfield, District 1 councilwoman Dante Anderson and District 5 councilwoman Marjorie Molina also backed the tax. City council will be responsible for appointing some of the trustees on the transit authority. Mayfield advocated for an interview process so council members can get a better idea of who is the right fit for the role. Challengers who supported the tax include District 3 candidate Montravias King; District 4 candidate Wil Russell; and at-large candidates Matt Britt, Will Holley and Namrata Yadav. Yadav said she would ensure the transportation authority has trustees who actually ride public transit and contractors that are from the communities being served by public transportation. 'Do I think it's perfect? No. But do I think this investment is required for a city, especially a city that's the 14th largest in the country? Yes, it is,' Yadav said. 'We need to act like a big city. We need this transit to go through. We need to make sure it goes through in a very accountable way.' Only 2 Charlotte City Council candidates stand against new transportation tax District 5 candidate J.D. Mazuera Arias was the first person to break from the pack and oppose the referendum. People in his district feel they would be left out of the plan, he said. The Metropolitan Transit Committee in May selected a transit plan that would expand train lines across the county but leave most of east Charlotte untouched. The plan builds the Red Line commuter rail from uptown to Lake Norman-area towns, extends the Blue Line to Carolina Place in Pineville, extends the Gold Line streetcar from the Rosa Parks Community Transit Center to Eastland, builds the Silver Line from Charlotte-Douglas International Airport to Bojangles Coliseum and includes improvements to the bus system. Molina, the District 5 incumbent who is facing Mazuera Arias in a head-to-head campaign, supported the plan. Her district stretches nearly to Cabarrus County, which raises questions of feasibility. 'There is no way to get rail out there,' Molina said. At-large candidate J.G. Lockhart was the only other person to oppose the 1-cent tax. The plan is not equitable for Charlotte, he said, which accounts for the overwhelming majority of Mecklenburg County residents and will therefore carry the tax burden to the benefit of neighboring towns like Pineville and Huntersville. 'We want to Band-Aid Charlotteans with a few more bus routes and microtransit. It's not gonna work,' Lockhart said. 'It is not for Charlotte. I promise you that.' Citing displacement, candidates remain neutral on 1-cent sales tax Six candidates stayed neutral, including District 1 candidate Charlene Henderson El, District 3 incumbent Tiawana Brown and challengers Joi Mayo and Warren Turner and District 4 incumbent Renee Perkins-Johnson. Incumbent councilwoman Victoria Watlington was the only person in a crowded pool of at-large candidates who remained neutral or undecided. 'We have always got to make sure that we are not putting in front of the community false choices,' said Watlington, who formerly served District 3 in west Charlotte, where concerns about displacement are especially strong. 'We need to make sure that we work with you to ensure that the plan that's on the table is the best plan for us, not just a good enough plan.' Mayo said west Charlotte does need more investment in transportation infrastructure, but the threat of displacement from the 1-cent tax plan gives her pause. The Silver Line that would run down West Boulevard means that some of Charlotte's most vulnerable residents could be forced to move if the city doesn't come up with a mitigation plan, she said. Mayo suggested the city set aside land for affordable housing and invest in workforce development initiatives to help people in the area who might be affected. King, who is running against Mayo in District 3, said that although the plan is not perfect and will likely uproot some people, the city has 'tools in our toolbox' to address displacement. He was the first candidate to throw firm support behind the referendum Saturday. 'Our city cannot afford to do nothing,' King said. Solve the daily Crossword

Classic 'Star Wars' Movie Receives New Rating

The Star Wars franchise has a long history, going back to the 1977 release of the original film first titled Star Wars and later retitled A New Hope . While Disney now operates this franchise, it was originally still under the control of creator George Lucas for quite some time, and he was able to create a trilogy of prequels including The Phantom Menace , Attack of the Clones , and Revenge of the Sith . Now one of these Star Wars films has received a new rating in the UK several decades after its initial release. As shared via The Telegraph, the British Board of Film Classification issued the rating when revisiting this aforementioned Star Wars film alongside various other cinematic classics. Interestingly, this Star Wars movie was previously rated U – which stands for 'Universal' – and brought up to a PG. For those unfamiliar, a U is much like a G rating in the United States. With changing times, however, the British Board of Film Classification deemed it necessary to change the UK rating of this Star Wars film released in 1999 – The Phantom Menace . It seems that this decision was made as a result of the film's final lightsaber fight. It's often considered one of the strongest sequences not only in the film, or the prequel trilogy, but the saga as a whole. The sequence has young Obi-Wan and his mentor, Qui-Gon Jinn, battling Darth Maul. It's an impressive fight scene and one that really upped the ante following the original trilogy. The sequence ultimately ends with Obi-Wan slicing Darth Maul in half after his master is killed in battle, and while it isn't particularly gory, it's violent enough that the rating of the entire film has gone up. As mentioned, The Phantom Menace is far from the only title to receive a new classification by the British Board of Film Classification. It is interesting, however, to see one of the least serious Star Wars films receive a slightly heavier rating almost three decades since its initial release. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the Star Wars franchise as we have them. While the 'Skywalker Saga' that The Phantom Menace opens has come to an end, it's clear that the brand is far from over with many new films and shows currently in the works.

Viewer's horrified after doc about adult star who slept with 1,000 men airs on major TV network: ‘Literal porn'

A major TV network has defended its decision to air a documentary about controversial porn star Bonnie Blue after viewers labelled it 'literal porn.' Channel 4, a British free-to-view TV station, premiered '1,000 Men and Me: The Bonnie Blue Story' in the UK on Wednesday evening. Advertisement But the one-hour documentary, which details the troubling tale of the 26-year-old as she has sex with 1,057 men in 12 hours, has been met with widespread criticism for being 'jaw-droppingly graphic' from viewers. Now Channel 4 has hit back at critics, arguing the pornographic content is compliant with local broadcasting codes. 'The explicit content in the documentary is editorially justified and provides essential context; making pornographic content is Bonnie's job, and this film is about her work and the response to it,' the broadcaster said, according to LADbible. 4 A new documentary on porn star Bonnie Blue has outraged viewers in the UK. Instagram/@bonnie_blue_xox Advertisement 'Crucially, the content is presented in a non-gratuitous manner and viewers will be alerted of the sexual content in a program warning at the start to ensure they understand from the outset the nature of the program. 'The program was broadcast after watershed and is compliant with the Ofcom broadcasting code.' But it has done little to quell the outrage online, with some labelling the documentary – billed as delving 'behind the headlines, clickbait and rage bait to discover what life's really like in Bonnie's wild orbit' – as 'grubby' just seconds in. 'Channel 4 has sunk a new low. Why is there a documentary on Bonnie Blue? Why are they trying to normalise her behaviour on national television?' one asked on X. Advertisement 4 Blue attending an event for '1,000 Men and Me: The Bonnie Blue Story.' Instagram/@bonnie_blue_xox 'This #bonnieblue documentary is absolutely depressing… I feel like I'm losing my mind watching this,' mused another. As one raged: 'Channel 4 you are truly disgusting for airing a documentary about Bonnie blue in any way shape or form. Genuinely disappointing how that woman is allowed a platform of any sort.' Others said the film — that makers said 'explores the central question polarizing debate about her: Is she a 'dangerous predator' pandering to male fantasies and perpetuating the patriarchy? Or an empowered, sex positive, businesswoman having the last laugh?' — failed to answer its own probing questions. Advertisement The film also features multiple scenes of Blue – whose real name is Tia Billinger – and various men engaging in graphic sexual acts. 4 The documentary takes a behind-the-scenes look at Blue's infamous pornographic scene featuring over 1,000 men. Instagram/@bonnie_blue_xox She's also shown completely nude at times and as well as while shooting adult videos with other porn stars. As a result, many branded the film 'disturbing,' 'sickening' and 'degrading', arguing it should never have been shown on TV. During the documentary, Blue is reportedly seen preparing for her most notorious stunt by buying '1,600 condoms, 50 balaclavas, numbing lube.' It's not just the stunt itself, along with the film, that has sparked outrage, with Blue's extreme approach to filming adult content regularly attracting widespread criticism. Dr. Charlotte Proudman, a family lawyer, said: 'The language Bonnie uses around being 'tied down, gagged and choked' for public consumption directly mirrors some of the most violent forms of abuse I see survivors disclose in courtrooms.' Advertisement Others challenged Blue's suggestion that she is a 'feminist,' stating her normalization of 'degrading' porn is 'worrying.' One thing's for sure, her reign on OnlyFans has come to an end, with the subscription platform popularized by sex workers banning Blue after she announced she was hosting a 'petting zoo' – where she was set to be tied up in a glass box 'like a zoo animal' for anyone of legal age to join her. A spokesperson for OnlyFans said 'extreme 'challenge' content is not permitted on the site,' stating it goes against its 'Acceptable Use Policy and Terms of Service'. 'Any breach of our Terms of Service results in content or account deactivation,' the spokesperson told The Sun last month. Advertisement 4 The UK's Channel 4 has claimed that the documentary is compliant with local broadcasting codes. Instagram/@bonnie_blue_xox The move has bought an abrupt end to her mammoth earnings on the platform and also ended her long-time friendship with Australian sex worker Annie Knight, famously dubbed 'Australia's most sexually active woman.' The former marketing executive told last week their friendship turned sour after Blue went on a media rampage after her 'horrifying' sex event was canned, during which time she seemingly took a swipe at Knight. Taking aim at OnlyFans, Blue claimed the platform 'took unprecedented action' to punish her for 'making content, while multiple other creators are mimicking my entire marketing techniques and events.' Advertisement 'The only difference is, I don't cry and I don't vlog hospital journeys. I just keep smiling,' she fumed, referring to Knight's recent hospitalization for an endometriosis flare up. It was a 'stab in the back' for Knight who ultimately decided it was time to cut the British sex worker out of her life. 'I'd spoken to her just a week prior and everything was fine and then she got banned from OnlyFans and the next thing I know, she's badmouthing me online, using my health issues against me and trying to get me banned as well,' Knight told Advertisement 'Her ship was going down and she tried to pull down as many people with her as possible, that's something I would absolutely never do. 'She tried to take credit for other people's careers and insinuate that people copied her, namely me. It's a huge stab in the back.' Knight said she had been growing increasingly concerned about the direction Blue's content was going in, noting that 'consent' and 'respect' are at the forefront of her own videos. 'I think the derogatory nature of the 'petting zoo' was horrifying. It opened the floodgates for abuse and other horrible things to occur. It was a line I wouldn't even dream of crossing,' the 27-year-old, who is originally from Melbourne, explained. 'I think at the end of the day our morals are completely different. Consent is so important and it has always been important that I convey that in my content. 'Sex is meant to be enjoyable for both parties and that's the most important thing for me to educate people on.' Prior to this, the pair had filmed controversial content with 'barely legal' young men, both in Australia and in Fiji where their tourist visas were abruptly cancelled over the stunt.
