Shocking new twist in Malcolm-Jamal Warner's final moments revealed by officials
Initially, Elberth León, the head of the Tourist Police for the country's Atlantic region, claimed the actor's 8-year-old daughter was in the ocean with him and was successfully rescued.
However, Costa Rica's Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) has since clarified that the girl was on the beach's shore when her dad entered the water with a friend, got 'caught by a high current' and drowned.
'Mr. Warner was playing with his daughter at the seashore at one point. He then left her out of the water, and he and a friend of his entered the sea,' a rep for the OIJ told People in a statement, which was translated from Spanish, on Thursday.
'It was at that moment that they were swept away by the current, and the friend managed to get out,' the statement continued.
'However, Mr. Warner was unable to get out and was pulled out by several people on the beach. He received care from Red Cross officials but was pronounced dead at the scene.'
The man who pulled Warner out of the water, a doctor, recounted the harrowing scene to Us Weekly.
Like Warner, he was on vacation, enjoying the day in the town of Playa Grande.
According to the doctor, there were 'very few people on the beach' that day, which could have been because the 'sea was rough.'
When he heard a group of people screaming and calling for help, he quickly 'ran to the area and entered the sea with [his] surfboard, heading into the rip current toward the person being pointed at by some beachgoers.'
After a few minutes, the doctor said he 'saw a shadow' and immediately 'dove down and pulled the person out.'
When the doctor finally reached the beach with Warner, he saw another man lying on the sand, struggling to breathe.
'[He was] just someone who tried to help during the emergency without any rescue equipment,' the doctor explained, adding that 'immediately, [first responders] began providing first aid to Malcolm, but he had no vital signs.'
The medical professional said two tourists who identified themselves as doctors 'ran over to help.' A few minutes later, Costa Rican Red Cross personnel arrived. They used specialized equipment on the 'Cosby Show' star, including a defibrillator, but he did not respond.
Warner was pronounced dead at the scene at the age of 54 due to 'asphyxiation by submersion.'
The other man was transported to the local medical clinic in critical condition but has since been released.

Tom Cruise's rumoured new girlfriend Ana de Armas takes aim at his ex Nicole Kidman by liking post mocking Aussie film star's appearance
Tom Cruise's rumoured new girlfriend has taken aim at his ex-wife Nicole Kidman by liking a post mocking the Australian film star. Cuban-American actress Ana de Armas, 37, and 63-year-old Cruise are thought to be in a relationship after they were recently spotted together numerous times at different romantic locations across the globe. De Armas took to Instagram to heart Celeb Mess' post of Kidman, which showed her face up close with the caption: "When you keep it real". The photo was reposted on Reddit, where fans of Kidman, 58, took to the comments to lash out at the War Dogs actress for shading their idol. "Lol let's see what she looks like at almost 60," one person said of her. Another person said it fascinates them when "people in their 20s and 30s are rude about people aging." "Like, where do you think you're headed? And do you know what the alternative to aging is?" they said. A third person hit out at de Armas for dating a "senior Tom Cruise", adding, "but sure Ana, you're the winner here lmao." "Having a one-sided internet beef with your boyfriend's wife from 20 years ago, this openly is just absurd lol," another person said. One more Nicole fan championed the Aussie's decades-long acting career, which has endured throughout her youth and more recently. "Looks fade, talent doesn't. Nicole's had a 40-year career. Let's see where Ana's is in 10," the Reddit user said. "Nicole Kidman has more talent, beauty, and grace than she ever will have." The furore comes after de Armas and Cruise touched down in London together on Friday after being spotted enjoying a leisurely escape aboard a yacht docked off the Spanish island of Menorca in June. Both stars cut a casual figure as they disembarked a helicopter, with Cruise wearing a T-shirt and jeans while his rumoured beau donned leggings and a sweatshirt with her dogs Elvis and Sasha in tow. The two appear to have been getting cosy, spending the days leading up to Valentine's Day and the actress's birthday in April together. Cruise and de Armas ignited romance rumours in February, when they were spotted strolling together in London. The actress subsequently said it occurred as the two were engaged in business talks with filmmakers Christopher McQuarrie and Doug Liman. And they are set to star in Liman's upcoming film Deeper, which sees Cruise star as a disgraced astronaut on a perilous deep-sea mission. Nevertheless, they are yet to confirm anything more than a friendship. In June, Ana said she was "really happy and proud" to have Cruise championing her film, Ballerina, after he paid her a compliment. The Chruch of Scientology believer said the John Wick spin-off "kicked ass." 'There's an actress that has dramatic chops, someone who's comedic, very, very talented," he said in May, adding: "Just a great actress."

Spanish teenager under investigation over AI naked images of classmates
Madrid: Spanish police said they were investigating a 17-year-old on suspicion of using artificial intelligence to deep-fake nude images of female classmates for sale. Sixteen young women at an educational institute in Valencia, in south-eastern Spain, complained about the AI-generated images of them which were circulating on social media and online. In December, a teenage girl complained to police that AI-generated video and faked photos resembling her 'completely naked' were posted on a social media account started under her name. 'Photos of various people, all of them minors, appeared on this account. All these photos had been modified from the originals, which had been manipulated so that the people in them appeared completely naked,' the Spanish Civil Guard said in a statement on Sunday (Monday AEST). A 17-year-old boy is under investigation for alleged corruption of minors. The Spanish government said in March said it would put forward a law to treat such deep-faked sexual imagery created by AI without consent as a crime but the bill has so far not been passed by parliament. In September 2023, Spain was shocked when 15 minors in Extremadura, in southwest Spain, were investigated for using AI to produce fake naked images of their female schoolmates. They were later sentenced to a year's probation.
