27 Onscreen Couples With No Chemistry

Buzz Feeda day ago
We asked members of the BuzzFeed Community to tell us about onscreen couples they think really lacked chemistry. We also perused this Reddit thread started by Timely_Software4158, where people shared their opinions on the same topic. Here are the couples that folks simply weren't buying:
"Honestly? Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney in Anyone But You. I watched it, expecting to see this crackling spark, the modern rom-com being saved, and all the other things people claimed about this film, and I just got nothing. I don't get it."
"I recently went on a date with my fiancé to see The Materialists. Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans had more chemistry with each other than Dakota Johnson had with either of them. To be fair, she doesn't have any chemistry with anyone in any movie she is in."
"Carrie and Aidan."
"I love this show, but Jake and Amy in Brooklyn Nine-Nine. The writing was sweet, and they were always warm and comfortable with each other, but there didn't seem to be a single ounce of passion between them shown in the entire time that show ran."
"Leonard and Penny in The Big Bang Theory. It was honestly painful to watch them."
"Chandler and Monica. While I think their coupledom made sense for the plot of the show, they had absolutely none of the tension or passion that makes for good onscreen chemistry. Chandler and Kathy had chemistry. Monica and Richard had chemistry. Monica and Chandler might as well have been siblings for how little spark they had."
"Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley in the films. Those two had all the fire and passion of a tax audit."
"Amber Heard and Jason Momoa in Aquaman. The movie came out before the Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard trial, so it had nothing to do with any opinions on her as a person or actress, but she and Jason Momoa just had zero chemistry. I think they both looked great for their parts, but their screen time together felt reallllly forced."
"Julia Roberts and Richard Gere have NO chemistry in Pretty Woman. I feel like this is probably a controversial take, but whatever."
"Christian Bale and Katie Holmes in Batman Begins. If you could somehow excise the entire sub-plot of Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne being in love with Katie Holmes' character, Batman Begins is a damned near perfect movie. Even with their wooden romance, it's still my favourite Batman film of all time. Sadly, the two leads have about as much chemistry as two dry bricks in a sandstorm. If these two had any less feeling for each other, they'd never have met."
"I know this will be unpopular, but Jim and Pam from The Office. Not only no chemistry, but toxic all over."
"Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson in Babygirl. It was just so not sexy. The scenes where they were kissing looked so unnatural, it made me cringe."
Emma Watson and Dan Stevens in the live-action Beauty and the Beast. I don't really like the live-action remakes, and this one had bad acting and no chemistry whatsoever."
"Renée Zellweger and Tom Cruise in Jerry Maguire. Of course, in my opinion...Tom Cruise with anyone (poor women)."
"This is my view and not a statement of objectivity. Still, this is going to upset a lot of people. Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner in The Bodyguard. It just didn't click with me. My girlfriend at the time was crying, and I was a little shocked at how much I didn't buy it."
"Daenerys and Jon. They lacked warmth. They were like awkward old classmates running into each other at the mall and then going on dates with each other just because they were both single at that time. And then they found they had nothing in common and didn't like each other, and both were waiting until they found someone better."
"Fifty Shades of Grey, Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson. Not only was the movie adaptation horrible, but they also lacked serious chemistry, which made it all worse. We were so excited, and it was blah."
"Britta and Troy in Community."
"Rachel and Joey. Why you gotta do that to my man!?"
"Going back a ways, Jack Nicholson and Jessica Lange in the 1981 version of The Postman Always Rings Twice. Nobody remembers it much today; they never worked together again, and if you take the time to see it, you'll understand why."
"Red, White & Royal Blue. Was it bad acting or bad chemistry? Not sure. Either way, I didn't buy it. I didn't even finish the movie; it was so unconvincing."
"Nina Dobrev and Jimmy O. Yang in Love Hard. Boy, what a miscast couple. The entire movie bombs because of this."
"The Ugly Truth starring Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler. Ugh! First of all, Gerry has no business doing rom-coms, and second, Heigl had more chemistry with the sex toy than either man! Bonus, when I got dragged to this garbage movie, there was a lady at the theater doused in perfume that triggered a migraine and ruined the rest of my day."
"I'll add Ben Stiller and Jennifer Aniston from Along Came Polly to the list. As much as I like the actors, they have no romantic chemistry at all. At best, they seem like friends. I think Ben had more chemistry with the ex-wife character in the one minute they were on screen together than the whole movie with Jennifer."
"Ben Affleck and Sandra Bullock in Forces of Nature! Love them individually. Together, they were like nails on a chalkboard!"
"Kathleen Turner and Nicolas Cage in Peggy Sue Got Married."
And: "Hands down, it's Jodie Foster and Richard Gere in the anemic Sommersby. They never make you believe for a second that they really care about each other."
Oof, some of these were hard for me to read. What onscreen couple do you think had a disappointing lack of chemistry? How come? Tell us in the comments or share anonymously using this form.

Who Is Soap Legend Erika Slezak Playing on 'General Hospital'?

Who Is Soap Legend Erika Slezak Playing on 'General Hospital'? originally appeared on Parade. In June, news broke that soap legend Erika Slezak had joined General Hospital. As Paradereported, Executive Producer Frank Valentini confirmed the One Life to Live star would appear in Port Charles in the fall. It didn't take long for the fans to start speculating who Slezak would play on the ABC soap. The rumor mill ran wild that Slezak was a recast for Monica following General Hospital icon Leslie Charleson's death in is not the case, and it's a good thing because fans were not here for a Monica recast. Charleson played Monica on the ABC soap for over 40 years, debuting in 1977. No, the soap vet isn't reprising her One Life to Live role either. Vicky won't be leaving Llanview for Port Charles. Slezak's official fan club has confirmed the actress will be playing a new character when she checks into General Hospital. According to her fan club website, Slezak will begin taping in September, but she doesn't know who she is playing yet. News that Slezak is bringing a new character to the show comes after Martin (Michael E. Knight) found a mystery letter addressed to Monica. Martin also questioned Yuri (Cyrus Hobbi) about the visitors Monica has had since her health declined. The timing of Slezak revealing she's playing a new character and Martin's curiosity about Monica led some fans to believe that Slezak will be Monica's long-lost sister. Fans will have to wait a while to find out if the latest fan theory is true. It would make sense, though, considering General Hospital is setting the stage to say farewell to Monica and pay tribute to Charleson. Having a soap icon like Slezak help give Charleson a send-off worthy of the legend she is would be a gift for fans. Make sure to keep watching to find out exactly who Slezak is playing and if fan theories about her being Monica's sister are right. General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC. Bride storms out of her own wedding after pushy mother-in-law crashes dessert table with ‘better' cake in Tupperware: ‘You're welcome'

It was supposed to be a sweet ending — until the mother of the groom decided the wedding cake wasn't up to her taste buds. In what guests are calling a 'wild' wedding stunt, one unapologetic MIL hijacked the dessert table — with a homemade carrot cake she smuggled in a Tupperware. 'At my friend's wedding last fall, everything was going smoothly until the cake,' a guest dished on Reddit's r/wedding forum on August 2. 'The groom's mom stood up and snatched the mic from the MC.' The guest thought a heartfelt toast was coming when they witnessed this. Nope. 'I just want everyone to know I paid for half this wedding and I didn't approve that cake. It's dry. I tried it earlier,' the MIL declared on the mic, sending the bride's face into full 'murder' mode. Then came the pièce de résistance — or maybe pièce‑de‑passive‑agressive. 3 The big day was headed for a picture‑perfect finish — until the groom's mom decided the wedding cake was half‑baked. LIGHTFIELD STUDIOS – 'Like… a full, homemade sheet cake,' the Redditor continued. 'Slaps it on the gift table and says, 'This is carrot. From scratch. With real cream cheese frosting. You're welcome,' and just walks off.' And here's the kicker — people actually ate it. 'One groomsman says it's actually better than the real cake,' the guest wrote. 'Bride walks out. Groom follows. MIL smiles like she won.' The sweet sabotage left the couple on frosty terms with the groom's mom. 'The bride didn't speak to her for months,' the guest revealed. They've since made up — but 'unauthorized desserts' are now banned at family events. 'The Tupperware is still a sore topic.' The internet was quick to pile on. 'The fact that the bride only gave her the silent treatment for months is restraint,' one commenter wrote. Another chimed in: 'Someone should have just tossed MIL's cake on the floor out of respect for the bride and groom! I would NEVER be fine with MIL again!' 3 In a 'wild' move, according to guests, the unapologetic MIL staged a dessert‑table coup — unveiling a homemade carrot cake she'd covertly carted in a Tupperware. Iuliia – 'Guaranteed they are not fine now. At least the bride isn't. Bride is gonna have a husband problem if husband doesn't learn to check his mom and put her in her place,' one person suggested. Others saw a red flag for future family feuds. 'What an odd and controlling thing to do… I feel really sorry for that bride, and I'm wondering what other things won't be good enough.' But a few contrarians saw the upside. 'Honestly, more cake doesn't seem like a bad idea. This sounds like a win for everybody.' Speaking of in‑law drama, as previously reported by The Post, one monster-in-law showed up to her future daughter-in-law's wedding wearing almost the exact same version of the bride's dress. The livid bride vented to the r/weddingshaming subreddit, explaining how the MIL 'cried LOUDLY' the night before, skipped the guest book and didn't even give a card. 3 Saying 'I do' means saying yes to the whole family circus. Enduring a monster‑in‑law after the honeymoon is bad enough — but having her pull stunts on your wedding day? That's a whole new level of wicked. WavebreakMediaMicro – Sadly, she's not alone. From sobbing through ceremonies to comparing nuptials to a barn burning down, Reddit is full of tales proving some MILs just can't let the spotlight go. As the saying goes, misery loves company — and when it comes to weddings, some mothers‑in‑law seem determined to be the main event.

Bride's Coworker Files HR Complaint Over Not Being Invited to Wedding

The woman said in a Reddit post that her coworker has been giving her "side-eyes" and "little digs"NEED TO KNOW A soon-to-be bride revealed on Reddit that her coworker filed an HR complaint after not being invited to her wedding "This was honestly one of the weirdest work things I've ever dealt with," the woman wrote She said the colleague now "acts super passive-aggressive toward me"A soon-to-be bride is facing some heat in the office over her guest list. In a post on Reddit, a woman revealed that her coworker wasn't too pleased about not being invited to her wedding. 'This was honestly one of the weirdest work things I've ever dealt with,' the user wrote on the site before explaining that she's not close to this colleague. 'We've had small talk here and there, nothing deep. No lunches together. No real outside-of-work connection,' the bride wrote. According to the woman, her colleague bluntly asked 'if she was invited" after finding out about the upcoming nuptials. 'I kinda laughed and said, 'Oh no, it's really small. Just close friends and family.' I didn't think anything of it,' the fiancée recalled. 'She got quiet and a little cold after that, but I figured okay, maybe awkward moment, whatever.' The soon-to-be wife then went on to say that she got an invite to a human resources meeting a few days later. 'Turns out she filed a complaint saying I was being 'exclusive' and 'creating a hostile environment by leaving people out,' ' she said. 'Because I didn't invite her. To my wedding. That I'm paying for. That isn't even work-related.' 'So I had to sit in this HR meeting and explain that I'm not required to invite coworkers I barely know to my literal wedding. That it's a personal event,' she continued. 'That it has nothing to do with work or who's in the office.' Meanwhile, the Reddit user wasn't the only perplexed person in the room as 'HR honestly looked just as confused as I was.' 'They basically said, 'Yep, okay, thanks,' and closed the case,' she added. However, unlike HR, it doesn't look like the coworker is ready to let things go just yet. 'But now she acts super passive-aggressive toward me,' she wrote on Reddit. 'Like side-eyes, little digs when I walk by. Still bringing it up in these weird sarcastic comments like, 'Some people are so inclusive these days.' ' The woman added, 'I can't believe she actually thought HR could… what, make me invite her? Some people really do think they're the main character.' ! Many readers on Reddit took the bride's side. 'I would report her to HR for creating an uncomfortable environment now,' one person wrote. A second said, 'Definitely seems like the coworker is heading towards hostile work environment territory, if not already there.' Read the original article on People Solve the daily Crossword
