Johnny Flynn is joining the cast of HBO's Harry Potter series as Lucius Malfoy along with eight others. What else has Flynn appeared in?
Adapted from the Harry Potter book series by author J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter, of course, originated on screen and played out over eight films, beginning with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in 2001 with Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson starring as Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger.
Tom Felton played the trio's adversary, Draco Malfoy, while Jason Isaacs (who went on to star in The White Lotus Season 3) starred as his father, Lucius Malfoy.
Warner Bros. Discovery announced on Monday that nine new cast members for its upcoming HBO Original Harry Potter series have been cast, including Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy and relative newcomer Lox Pratt as Draco.
Flynn and Pratt will be joining the other recently announced cast members including Dominic McLaughlin as Harry, Alistair Stout as Ron and Arabella Stanton as Hermione.
Prior to the trio's casting, Warner Bros. Discovery announced that John Lithgow (Albus Dumbledore), Paapa Essiedu (Severus Snape), Nick Frost (Hagrid) and Janet McTeer (Minera McGonagall) were also cast in the Harry Potter series.
Johnny Flynn as Dickie Greenleaf in Netflix's "Ripley."
Johnny Flynn, who was born March 14, 1983, in Johannesburg, South Africa, and went to school in England, has 34 screen credits, according to his IMDb profile.
Flynn's latest role came in 2024 in the eight-episode Netflix miniseries Ripley, an episodic adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's classic novel The Talented Mr. Ripley. Flynn stars in the series in the pivotal role of Dickie Greenleaf, a wayward vagabond who is murdered by a grifter, Tom Ripley (Andrew Scott), who assumes Dickie's identity.
The Talented Mr. Ripley was first adapted as a film in 1999 with Matt Damon starring as Tom and Jude Law as Dickie. Ripley, meanwhile, was nominated for 13 Primetime Emmy Awards in 2024, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series, and won four Emmys in the technical categories.
Flynn made his screen debut in a guest role in the U.K. series Murder in Suburbia, in 2005. Flynn's television credits include the Netflix comedy series Lovesick (2014-2018), the Comedy Central series Brotherhood (2015) and the BBC/PBS Masterpiece version of Les Misérables. Flynn played the supporting role of Felix in one episode in the 2018 miniseries adaptation of Les Misérables, which consisted of six episodes.
In addition, Flynn played the young Albert Einstein in the Nat Geo miniseries Genius: MLK/X, in 2028.
Flynn's film credits include the 2014 psychological drama Clouds of Sils Maria, where he starred opposite Juliette Binoche, Kristen Stewart and Chloë Grace Moretz and period comedy/costume drama Emma, opposite Anya Taylor-Joy and Mia Goth.
In addition, Flynn starred as David Bowie in Stardust, a 2020 biopic about the young rock legend before his rise to fame, as well as future James Bond author Ian Fleming in the 2021 World War II drama Operation Mincemeat. In addition, Flynn voiced Bob Cratchit in Netflix's animated version of Scrooge: A Christmas Carol.
In 2024, Flynn played the young version of Anthony Hopkins' character Dicky Winton, in the biographical drama One Life.
There is no word yet on the release date of HBO's Harry Potter series. In the press release announcing the nine new cast members Tuesday, Warner Bros. Discovery noted, 'The series will be a faithful adaptation of the beloved Harry Potter books by author and executive producer J.K. Rowling.'
Other new cast members announced for the Harry Potter series Monday include Leo Earley as Hogwarts students Seamus Finnigan, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil and Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown.

Meghan Markle's New Project Is So Unexpected…and So Her
Meghan Markle has been busy this year—like, seriously booked and thriving. Between launching her lifestyle brand As Ever, kicking off her new podcast Confessions of a Female Founder and seeing her hit Netflix series With Love, Meghan already renewed for season two, the Duchess of Sussex is clearly in her boss era. And according to new reports, she's not slowing down anytime soon. The latest buzz? Meghan might be setting her sights on the hospitality industry—think boutique hotels, chic restaurants and cozy luxury stays. According to The Mirror, the former Suits star has been expanding the trademark for her rebranded lifestyle firm, As Ever, with filings that now include 'hospitality services,' 'temporary lodging' and the 'provision of food and drink.' It's only a matter of time before we find out if it's true, but honestly, it wouldn't be a shock. Meghan's whole vibe—with As Ever and her Netflix show—is rooted in entertaining, lifestyle and creating beautiful spaces. A move into the hospitality world feels like a natural next step. In fact, the idea of building something for future generations seems to be top of mind for her. On a recent episode of Confessions of a Female Founder, Meghan chatted with Tina Knowles (yes, Beyoncé's mom) about the possibility of launching a business one day with her daughter, Princess Lilibet. She asked Tina for her best advice on working with family. 'There are difficulties sometimes… you have disagreements,' Knowles said. 'But I'm the one that always caves. I've been like that since I was young. If my kids are mad at me, I can't take it, so I'll apologize.' Whether Meghan's next venture is a podcast empire, a boutique hotel or a cozy café somewhere in Montecito, one thing's for sure: the world is watching… and some of us (AKA me) are cheering her on. British Netflix series Adolescence to be shown in French schools, says minister of education
Following UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer welcoming plans to air Netflix's hit show Adolescence in secondary schools, France is following suit, with French Minister of Education Élisabeth Borne stating yesterday that the mini-series will be screened from secondary school level upwards. In an interview for LCI news channel, Borne explained that the producer of the series 'gave us the rights' and that the Ministry of Education was therefore going to 'offer five educational sequences for young people based on this series'.These extracts from Adolescence, which have already been shown in British schools to stimulate debate and try to 'prevent young boys from being dragged into a whirlpool of hatred and misogyny,' are 'very representative of the violence that can exist among young people', according to Borne. The aim is to help raise awareness of the problem of 'overexposure to screens and the trivialisation of violence on these social networks,' as well as the spread of masculinist theories and misogyny, argues Borne. The four-part series follows how a father deals with the fallout of his 13-year-old son being suspected of stabbing one of his classmates to death. Beyond the spot-on acting, the show has felt like a cultural wake-up call, as it has prompted a wider discussion about toxic masculinity and the devastating influence of the so-called 'manosphere' on young minds who are faced with websites and online forums promoting misogyny and ultra-conservative models of masculinity that flirt with far-right ideologies. When it was confirmed that Netflix would be making the series available to all UK secondary schools, former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson wrote a column for the Daily Mail saying that he didn't see the good in the initiative, calling the show 'tosh'. He wrote: 'In making this announcement with full prime ministerial authority amid the ancient solemnity of the cabinet room, Keir Starmer has perfectly encapsulated the fundamental flatulence of the government, and its emetic finger-wagging mixture of humbug and wokery.' Johnson went on to say that he believes the move to show the series in school time demonstrates the government's 'cruel indifference to the real educational needs of children today,' adding: 'In case you haven't watched Adolescence I can save you the bother. It's tosh - well-acted tosh.' Predictably, Johnson also introduced race to his argument, saying that 'unlike the teenage couple in this drama, the victims and perpetrators are disproportionately young black males.' The show's co-creator Jack Thorne has already spoken out on this theory, saying, 'It's absurd to say that (knife crime) is only committed by black boys. It's not true and history shows a lot of cases of kids from all races committing these crimes.' Thorne also stated that the goal of the show was not about 'making a point about race' but to make a point 'about masculinity.' 'We're trying to get inside a problem,' he added. 'We're not saying this is one thing or another, we're saying that this is about boys.' The decision to show the series in French schools comes after Laëtitia Curetti, who has a 13-year-old son, wrote to Borne and launched an online petition to have the series shown in secondary schools across France. Curetti stated she believes the series could be an 'excellent educational tool' to raise awareness of the dangers of social networking, sexism, bullying and violence in schools. The discussion surrounding knife crime has increased since the success of the series in France. It has been further amplified after a 16-year-old stabbed a high school student to death and injured three other fellow students at the lycée Notre-Dame de Toutes Aides in Nantes on 24 April. "My thoughts go out first to the teenager who lost her life, to the three students who were injured, and I want to express all my support and solidarity to these victims, their families and their loved ones," declared Borne at the school, before paying tribute to the "establishment staff who intervened and neutralized the attacker." French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau spoke of "a tragedy that rocks us." He said he was "appalled" and "shocked" by "the violence that has been unleashed," before adding that the tragic incident was "not a mere news item but a societal issue."

Microsoft Finally Gets Into the Handheld Game With ROG Xbox Ally
Jun 9, 2025 4:47 PM Xbox players will soon get the freedom to play anywhere with two handheld consoles that Microsoft plans to release this holiday season. The ROG Xbox Ally X. Courtesy of XBOX Microsoft is finally shooting its shot for handheld gaming. During Summer Game Fest on June 8, the company debuted the console with a flashy trailer: a floating block of ice forming into the handheld before the Xbox logo cracks through and the system comes to life. Not just one, but two—the ROG Xbox Ally and its more powerful variation, the ROG Xbox Ally X—essentially a set of halved controllers comically strapped to a wide screen. Both are expected to arrive this holiday season, though details like pricing, accessories, and pre-orders still haven't been announced. It's been a long wait for a true Xbox handheld. While competitors like Nintendo, Sony, and Valve have already established handheld or hybrid consoles in some form, Microsoft has been slower to commit to gaming on the go—a move that has cost it a competitive edge against the Switch or Steam Deck. For a company that's put heavy emphasis on 'Xbox anywhere,' its lack of a console you could actually play anywhere has been a major oversight. The Ally consoles, which are being made with electronic manufacturer ASUS, will finally let people play games through remote play, cloud gaming, or the handheld itself. Both will run Windows 11, where your mileage may vary depending on your feelings about the divisive OS, which critics have described as 'so got dang annoying' for things like pop-up ads and a bad start menu. It will give players access to PC games, mod use, and apps such as Discord and Twitch, and include accessibility features found on Xbox. Fans will also be able to play games from Xbox, PC storefronts, Game Pass, and which will all sync between consoles, PC, and cloud gaming. In an interview with The Verge last year, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer said the company has been 'learning from what Nintendo has done over the years with Switch.' He's also expressed admiration for the Steam Deck, ROG handheld, and Lenovo handheld Legion Go. Prior to that, a leak from Microsoft itself in September 2023 included information on a 'hybrid game platform,' then expected in 2028. Back when X allowed users to see other likes on posts, Xbox fans took note of Spencer liked tweets that declared an Xbox handheld 'inevitable.' The race to make consoles more powerful than they've ever been—or to compete with PCs—hasn't been as exciting, as the tech has steadily improved in the last decade. Instead, it's the console you can play on a plane or from bed—anywhere without a tv setup, really—that feels truly appealing. My Xbox Series X has spent most of its life languishing on my shelf and collecting dust while my Switch is a must-have for every trip I take. Breakout titles like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 pulled me back to my Xbox briefly, but I, like many other gamers, want that option on the go. Impressions of the handheld so far have been largely positive. 'It ran nicely, felt good in my hands…the controls felt like Xbox controller grips,' wrote GameFile. 'The gameplay was crisp and clear.' IGN praised its gameplay experience, but also noted that the user interface could be more intuitive. A writer from The Guardian said they 'can easily see it becoming a serious competitor for both the Switch 2 and Valve's Steam Deck.' Microsoft is entering the market at a time when you can play most major video games on one handheld or another. With the Switch 2 out now, Nintendo already has a jump on the holiday season—and any potential tariffs or production problems that may occur. But Microsoft has no shortage of games. During Xbox's Summer Gamefest showcase, the company also showed off its upcoming release schedule, including Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 , The Outerworlds 2 , a Persona 4 remake, and Hollow Knight sequel Silksong . The Ally will launch with the massively popular Roblox, the first time the game has ever been available on a handheld. That strong library of games could give Xbox the leg up it needs—or, at least a fighting chance.
