In the meeting, he reviewed the recently concluded 100-Day TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, covering high-focus districts where 12.97 crore vulnerable individuals were screened; 7.19 lakh TB cases detected, including 2.85 lakh asymptomatic TB cases.
Over one lakh new Ni-kshay Mitras joined the effort during the campaign, which has been a model for Jan Bhagidari that can be accelerated and scaled across the country to drive a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach.
In the meeting, which was attended by Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, Principal Secretary to PM Dr. PK Mishra, Principal Secretary-2 to PM Shaktikanta Das, Adviser to PM Amit Khare, Union Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava and other senior officials, Modi stressed the need to analyse the trends of TB patients based on urban or rural areas and also based on their occupations.
'This will help identify groups that need early testing and treatment, especially workers in construction, mining, textile mills, and similar fields,' according to a statement issued by the Union Health Ministry.
'As technology in healthcare improves, Nikshay Mitras (supporters of TB patients) should be encouraged to use technology to connect with TB patients. They can help patients understand the disease and its treatment using interactive and easy-to-use technology,' the statement said.
The Prime Minister said that since TB is now curable with regular treatment, there should be less fear and more awareness among the public.
He highlighted the importance of cleanliness through Jan Bhagidari as a key step in eliminating TB.
He urged efforts to personally reach out to each patient to ensure they get proper treatment.
During the meeting, Prime Minister noted the encouraging findings of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Global TB Report 2024, which affirmed an 18% reduction in TB incidence (from 237 to 195 per lakh population between 2015 and 2023), which is double the global pace; 21% decline in TB mortality (from 28 to 22 per lakh population) and 85% treatment coverage, reflecting the programme's growing reach and effectiveness.
He also reviewed key infrastructure enhancements, including expansion of the TB diagnostic network to 8,540 NAAT (Nucleic Acid Amplification Testing) labs and 87 culture and drug susceptibility labs; over 26,700 X-ray units, including 500 AI-enabled handheld X-ray devices, with another 1,000 in the pipeline.
'The decentralisation of all TB services including free screening, diagnosis, treatment and nutrition support at Ayushman Arogya Mandirs was also highlighted,' the statement said.
Prime Minister was apprised of introduction of several new initiatives such as AI driven hand-held X-rays for screening, shorter treatment regimen for drug resistant TB, newer indigenous molecular diagnostics, nutrition interventions and screening and early detection in congregate settings like mines, tea garden, construction sites, urban slums, etc. including nutrition initiatives; Ni-kshay Poshan Yojana DBT payments to 1.28 crore TB patients since 2018 and enhancement of the incentive to Rs. 1,000 in 2024.
Under the Ni-kshay Mitra Initiative, 29.4 lakh food baskets have been distributed by 2.55 lakh Ni-kshay Mitras, the ministry said.

Chennai, June 7 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian has allayed the fears of the people over the spike in COVID-19 cases stating that it was of less intensity, while advising pregnant women, the elderly people and those with co-morbidities to wear masks while moving in public places and maintain social distancing as a precautionary measure. Talking to reporters in Perundurai last evening after a convocation ceremony at Government Erode Medical College and inaugurating new buildings and laying foundation stones for new buildings, he said though no official advisory was issued on making wearing masks mandatory, it was advised that pregnant women and elderly and those with comorbidities to wear it in public places. Mr. Subramanian said that while the Union Health Ministry typically issues advisories to all the State governments during a spike in cases, no such advisory has been issued, so far in the State. Stating that the symptoms of the current Omicron variant included fever, throat pain, cold and cough, he said those with such symptoms were advised to visit the nearest government hospital for treatment. He also said the state government was all geared up tackle if there was any spike in cases by keeping ready 94,000 beds have been kept ready across the government hospitals in Tamil Nadu for treating COVID-19 patients, besides ensuring enough stock of oxygen. TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan Launched in Ramnagar to Screen High-Risk Groups Across the District
Gadwal: Under the leadership of District Medical and Health Officer Dr. Siddappa, the 'TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan' (TB-Free India Campaign) was launched today at the Ramnagar Urban Primary Health Center. The primary objective of the program is to identify and test individuals showing symptoms of tuberculosis (TB), particularly targeting high-risk groups. These include diabetic patients, individuals with high blood pressure, people above the age of 60, current TB patients, those with a past history of TB, and their family members. As part of today's screening, chest X-rays were conducted for 12 individuals, and sputum tests were carried out for 30 people. This campaign is being implemented across the entire district. Key officials who participated in the program include TB Program Officer Dr. Raju, Dr. Madhurya, Dr. Priyanka, Deputy DMO Madhusudhan Reddy, along with local health staff. The health department emphasized that early detection and treatment are vital to achieving a TB-free society and encouraged people from all high-risk categories to get tested.

Waters in Goa's lakes, borewells polluted: GSPCB
Panaji: The Goa state pollution control board (GSPCB) stated that the water of lakes, wells, borewells, estuaries, and coastal waters in the state is polluted, but the water quality of rivers and waterfalls meets prescribed standards. In its annual report released on Thursday, the board mentioned that air quality is good to satisfactory for most of the year from April 2023 to March 2024. The board monitors water quality at 115 locations throughout Goa under the national water quality monitoring programme (NWMP). The water bodies monitored include rivers, wells, canals, lakes, reservoirs, creeks, nallahs, and common STPs (inlet & outlet). Among the rivers, estuarine rivers and freshwater rivers form a part of the riverine network at water intake points for water treatment plants for public water supply. Groundwater sources (borewell water) located within selective major industrial estates are also part of this programme. Besides, selective coastal beach locations (20 coastal shoreline waters) along the coast of Goa are also included under the NWMP network. The 115 locations covered under this programme are distributed throughout Goa, with 54 stations in North Goa and 61 in South Goa. The 115 locations are divided into two groups, which include 107 monitored on a monthly basis and eight (bore wells located in some industrial estates) monitored on a half-yearly basis as per CPCB protocol. A total of 1,263 samples were collected from these locations and analysed during the year 2024-2025. 'NWMP locations categorised under class C (rivers/waterfalls) throughout the state comply with prescribed CPCB standards most of the year. St Inez creek (North Goa) and Bethora nallah (South Goa), categorised in class B, indicate non-compliance with CPCB's prescribed standards most of the year for parameters like DO, BOD, faecal coliform, and faecal streptococci,' the board said. 'For NWMP locations categorised under class E (lakes), parameters namely conductivity and specific absorption ratio do not comply in a few instances in the year, as per CPCB prescribed standards, while all other parameters comply,' the board said. 'For NWMP locations categorised under class A (wells/bore-wells), parameters namely DO and BOD indicate non-compliance most of the year. The majority of the locations classified under SWII (estuaries and Cumbharjua canal), as well as some coastal waters, indicate non-compliance with faecal coliform as per CPCB prescribed water quality standards,' the board said. Under the national air quality monitoring programme (NAMP), the GSPCB monitors 18 ambient air quality monitoring (AAQM) locations within Goa. Besides the 18 AAQM locations, the board monitors an additional location at the fire brigade station, MPT. Out of the 18 NAMP locations, 16 locations are outsourced to laboratories recognised by the Union environment ministry, and three stations' sampling and analysis are conducted by the board's staff. Parameters like particulate matter (PM10), particulate matter (PM2.5), sulphur dioxide (SO2), and nitrous oxide (NO2) have been monitored at all the stations. 'Air quality in Goa, as per locations monitored for the period April 2024 to March 2025, is good to satisfactory for the maximum time of the year. However, it is satisfactory to moderate for industrial estates like Cuncolim, Tuem, Bicholim, Vasco, Baina, and Kundaim. The field observations around the monitoring locations indicate the prominence of anthropogenic activities like vehicular movements, construction activities, and road digging,' said GSPCB. There are six AQI categories, namely good, satisfactory, moderately polluted, poor, very poor, and severe, based on eight pollutants.
