Police launch Ops Lancar to ensure smooth Aidiladha travel, deploy 1,858 personnel
Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said 1,858 police personnel will be deployed to locations expected to experience traffic congestion.
He said the JSPT machinery would be mobilised comprehensively and systematically to ease traffic congestion on highways, federal roads, state roads, and municipal roads.
'Road users are advised to stay informed on the latest traffic updates via JSPT's official social media channels, which can help them plan their travels more effectively,' he said in a statement today.
Mohd Yusri urged the public to act prudently and comply with traffic regulations, reminding them not to queue jump, misuse emergency lanes, and obstruct traffic flows.
'Stern action will be taken against road users who commit offences that could lead to accidents,' he stressed.
He said JSPT is committed to ensuring the public can celebrate Hari Raya Aidiladha in a safe and peaceful environment throughout their journeys, adding that their cooperation is crucial to ensure the comfort and safety of all road users. — Bernama

DENPASAR, Aug 19 — A Peruvian woman has been arrested in Indonesia's Bali after allegedly trying to smuggle cocaine into the resort island using a sex toy and hiding drugs in her underwear, police said today. The 42-year-old, identified only by her initials NS arrived at Bali's international airport from Qatar on August 12 when authorities became suspicious. 'The customs officers suspected her behaviour, and after consulting with the police, they did a further check on her,' Bali police narcotics unit director, Radiant, who like many Indonesians has one name, told a press conference. The officers found 1.4 kilograms of cocaine inside a sex toy hidden in her genitals and in her underwear. Police also accused her of smuggling dozens of ecstasy pills. The Peruvian woman told the police she was hired to transport the drugs to Indonesia by a man she met on the dark web in April in return for US$20,000 (RM84,470), said Radiant. The woman has been charged under Indonesia's harsh narcotics law and could face the death penalty if found guilty. Last month, a Bali court sentenced a 46-year-old Argentine to seven years in prison after she was found guilty of smuggling 244 grams of cocaine wrapped with a condom that she hid inside her genitals. Indonesia has some of the world's toughest drug laws. There are dozens of traffickers on death row in the country, including a cocaine-smuggling British grandmother. Indonesia last carried out executions in 2016, killing one Indonesian and three Nigerian drug convicts by firing squad. — AFP

The AGC said the decision followed a review of investigation papers and was based on evidence gathered by the authorities. It said a statement earlier today by the lawyer appointed by Zara's mother, Noraida Lamat, was speculative and not supported by accurate facts. Lawyer Hamid Ismail argued that Section 507D(2) of the Penal Code, which pertains to 'causing a person to believe that harm will be caused', was more appropriate. The AGC reiterated that its charging decision reflects the available evidence and investigative findings. It added that an inquest must still proceed to determine the actual cause of Zara Qairina's death. The Zara Qairina controversy centres on the tragic death of the 13-year-old student at a religious boarding school in Sabah, who was found unconscious after reportedly falling from her dormitory's third floor on July 16 and dying the next day. Investigations uncovered clear elements of bullying, neglect, and sexual harassment, with her personal diary and statements from nearly 200 witnesses revealing her struggles and complaints to the school. The case sparked national outrage, allegations of cover-ups, and calls for justice, leading to an expanded police probe, the exhumation of her body for forensic investigation, and the scheduled inquest proceedings starting in September 2025.

Bersatu's Hilman Idham to face charge over video remarks on political arrests
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 — Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia Youth chief Muhammad Hilman Idham is set to face prosecution tomorrow over remarks made at a protest last month. According to the Royal Malaysia Police's Classified Crimes Unit, the Gombak Setia assemblyman will be charged under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for making statements deemed likely to cause public alarm. The charge is believed to be over a video of him speaking at a July 29 protest here, in which he allegedly claimed the arrest of some Bersatu members was politically motivated. The offence is punishable by up to two years' imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction. Bersatu responded to the news by condemning the plan to prosecute Hilman and alleging it to be political intimidation.
