Police on Thursday said Mr Bilic was stabbed twice in an altercation with the two boys after they allegedly entered the beachside home about 11.30pm on Sunday.
Ms Tomte was not home at the time and had asked a neighbour to check on her husband after she had not heard from him.
Mr Bilic - a popular community member who worked as a junior soccer coach - was found dead in his yard by the neighbour about 7.30pm on Monday.
Floral tributes have been laid outside the home.
Annabelle Brett had recently moved to the Sunshine Coast community from north Queensland and said the incident had left everyone in shock.
"I didn't think that this happened in places like the Sunshine Coast in general, let alone a suburb like Warana," she told AAP.
"It is very family friendly, quiet and coastal. There's a lot of people that have retired and moved here for a more calm, quiet and safe life."
Ms Tomte on Thursday led tributes for her husband, who was described as "the whole street's favourite person".
She said Mr Bilic had also been a "super hero" to the kids he worked with as a junior soccer coach at Sunshine Coast childcare centres.
"He was loved by more people that I can put into words," she said in a statement released via Queensland Police.
"If you've had the privilege of being in Zed's presence, you'll know that he was literal sunshine.
"And the world is a little less bright without him in it."
Ms Tomte had earlier expressed her grief over losing "the most beautiful man" on social media, posting: "My world for 28 years ...he was my everything".
Police said Mr Bilic was clearly a beloved community member, with locals offering "as much help as they can" to their investigation.
"They visit each other's houses, they have Christmas street parties," Detective Inspector Chris Toohey said on Thursday.
"They really are shocked but really want to help."
Queensland Premier David Crisafulli passed on his condolences, saying no family should have to experience such pain.
His Liberal National government ushered in tough youth justice laws after winning the 2024 election, ensuring juveniles face adult sentences for more than 30 offences.
The 17-year-old was arrested as he got off a bus that had arrived in Toowoomba from Brisbane.
Detectives allege they have located the murder weapon, sending it for forensic testing.
The boys have also been charged with a number of break and enter offences, police said.
One of the teenagers is under his grandmother's guardianship with both his parents in jail, the Maroochydore Childrens Court was told.
The other teen has been under the long-term guardianship of Department of Child Safety.

Lehrmann's solicitor slams police after court loss
Former Liberal staffer Bruce Lehrmann has suffered a legal defeat in the first of multiple court battles aimed at halting a rape trial against him. Lehrmann's Sydney-based solicitor Zali Burrows on Friday took aim at Queensland Police after withdrawing a bid to prove officers had illegally recorded two conversations between Lehrmann and his previous legal team. Ms Burrows had also been seeking a court injunction to prevent Queensland Police from recording any future conversations with any of Lehrmann's legal representatives. Lehrmann, 30, appeared by phone on Friday when the matter was heard at Toowoomba District Court. Judge Benedict Power dismissed the application after the claims were withdrawn by Ms Burrows, who conceded her entire case would depend on proving officers had broken the law in Queensland. Outside court, Ms Burrows told reporters she would never again speak to a Queensland Police officer on the phone. "All I can say is that it's another world in the state of Queensland," she said. Ms Burrows' application was part of a wider bid to seek a permanent stay on proceedings which, if granted, would halt a pending trial against Lehrmann on two counts of rape. Lehrmann, who is on bail, is accused of raping a woman twice during the morning of October 10, 2021 after they met at a strip club the previous night in Toowoomba, west of Brisbane. The former ministerial staffer to Liberal senator Linda Reynolds was charged in January 2023 and is yet to formally enter a plea. But his former solicitor had previously told a magistrate he intended to contest the charges. Ms Burrows on Friday agreed with Judge Power's contention that the officers might have followed proper procedure for keeping accurate notes during the early stages of an investigation. "You need to establish as a matter of law that what (the investigating detective) did was unlawful," Judge Power said. Ms Burrows said police would have an "unfair tactical advantage" if they had a recording of any conversation where a lawyer accidentally disclosed legally confidential material. Judge Power said that would not be the fault of police and any of Lehrmann's solicitors could make a separate claim if there was confidential material. Australian man found dead in Phuket, Thailand, hotel room
An Australian man has been found dead in a hotel room on the Thai holiday island of Phuket. Hotel staff found the body of a man in his early 20s on Wednesday morning, according to Reuters and local media. The man had a bandaged arm because of a recent motorcycle crash and had died with his mobile phone on his chest, according to media reports. According to police Lieutenant Colonel Thanom Thongpaenm, the man was still on a call when the body was discovered. "The line hadn't been disconnected and he had died like that," he told Reuters. "It appeared he had been on the call for about 12 hours." Authorities have yet to release the name of the man, who was born in India but had an Australian passport. Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is providing consular assistance to the family of an Australian who died in Thailand, a spokesperson has said.
