MCIT showcases its role in supporting government digital transformation at Google Cloud Summit

DOHA: The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has highlighted its central role in supporting government digital transformation and enhancing the adoption of cloud computing technologies in Qatar, as part of its ongoing efforts to achieve the Digital Agenda 2030 goals and build an advanced digital infrastructure that fosters innovation and drives sustainable development.
The ministry presented its initiatives during the Google Cloud Summit Doha 2025 held on Thursday.
During the summit, which celebrated the second anniversary of Google Cloud's regional launch in Qatar, Minister of Communications and Information Technology HE Mohammed bin Ali bin Mohammed Al Mannai honoured several government entities collaborating with Google Cloud that have made significant advancements in adopting cloud solutions and strengthening digital transformation within their sectors.
The recognition underscores the contributions of these entities in improving operational efficiency and enhancing digital services, aligning with the ministry's vision of establishing an integrated, smart government system capable of keeping pace with global digital transformations. The event also highlighted the critical role of public-private partnerships in accelerating digital transformation and fostering an environment conducive to innovation.
In a panel discussion on purpose-driven innovation, MCIT's Director of Digital Innovation Eman Al Kuwari emphasized the ongoing digital transformation efforts in Qatar, showcasing key ministry-led initiatives, including the AI Sandbox, XR Sandbox, smart city solutions, and digital public services.
She underscored the vital role of strategic partnerships in accelerating the adoption of emerging technologies and the importance of investing in national talent, particularly youth.
At its dedicated exhibition booth, the ministry highlighted several major national projects and initiatives aimed at strengthening Qatar's digital infrastructure.
Among the highlighted projects was "Fanar," the Arab AI initiative, which represents a significant advancement in AI applications related to Arabic language and culture. This initiative aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the pillars of the Digital Agenda 2030.
The ministry also presented an interactive demonstration of the XR Sandbox, a virtual environment designed for the development and testing of extended reality applications, alongside the AI Sandbox, which provides support for innovators and entrepreneurs developing AI-driven solutions.
Additionally, the ministry showcased its professional development program, which aims to train and empower national talent according to global best practices.
During the summit, MCIT's Assistant Undersecretary for Infrastructure and Operations Sami Al Shammari emphasized that the ministry's participation reflects its firm commitment to digital transformation as a key strategic pillar of government operations.
Al Shammari described the partnership with Google Cloud as an effective model for accelerating institutional cloud adoption, ensuring that government entities are digitally prepared and capable of maintaining secure and resilient operations. Currently, 56 government entities benefit from Google Cloud's scalable and secure solutions, ensuring business continuity and improved operational efficiency.
Al Shammari also highlighted the Overseas Internship Program launched in Dublin in collaboration with Google Cloud, describing it as a significant step toward developing national expertise capable of leading and localizing advanced technologies in alignment with the Digital Agenda 2030.
The ministry's participation in the Google Cloud Summit served as a platform to showcase its strategic partnership with Google Cloud, which now includes 56 government entities.
This collaboration is a cornerstone of Qatar's digital transformation efforts, ensuring a reliable, secure cloud infrastructure that enhances operational efficiency, guarantees business continuity, and equips government agencies to meet future digital demands.
The partnership also facilitates advanced cloud service adoption based on global best practices, contributing to improved service quality for citizens and residents.
As part of this strategic collaboration, the ministry continues to expand cloud solutions across various government sectors, reinforcing cooperation with leading global technology firms and adopting agile operational models capable of adapting to the evolving digital landscape. This approach enhances government efficiency through interconnected smart solutions, ensuring seamless data access and optimized resource utilization.
These efforts align with the ministry's ongoing commitment to implementing the Digital Agenda 2030, which serves as Qatar's national roadmap for digital transformation, aiming to build a sustainable knowledge-based digital economy.

The 9th edition continues to focus on fostering innovation within advanced digital fields by highlighting notable achievements and best practices across several categories, including the 'Best Digital Transformation – Corporate; Best AI Solution – Corporate; Best Digital Experience – Corporate; Best ICT Service Provider – Corporate; Best Digital Transformation – SME; Best Digital Experience – SME; Best AI Solution – SME; Best Startup of the Year; Best Scale-Up of the Year; Research and Development Excellence; Best Smart Solution; Best Cybersecurity Solution; and Entrepreneur of the Year. Assistant Undersecretary for Digital Industry Affairs at MCIT HE Reem Al Mansoori said, 'The 9th edition of the Qatar Digital Business Award reflects our continued commitment to building a diverse and innovative digital economy. This award stands as a pioneering national initiative designed to stimulate digital innovation and promote a culture of excellence within the nation's digital business landscape. 'This latest edition forms part of the ministry's strategic objectives and aligns with the Digital Agenda 2030, which seeks to advance the national digital economy and strengthen the digital industries ecosystem by encouraging innovative projects and fostering a competitive environment driven by creativity and innovation.' QNA Doha The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), through its 'Studio 5' initiative, organised its first Summer Camp of 2025, focusing on artificial intelligence and programming. The camp was held in collaboration with the Orphans Care Centre (Dreama). A total of 22 students from Dreama, aged seven to 18, participated in an interactive training programme that combined theory with practical application. Designed to accommodate different age groups, the camp focused on three key areas: programming, AI, and robotics, to open new pathways for learning and creativity in a stimulating digital environment. Structured over two weeks, the camp catered to different age groups from Dreama Centre. Younger participants (aged seven to 10) attended the first week, followed by older students (aged 11-18) in the second week. Both groups received three days of training, with daily two-hour sessions. The camp's activities focused on developing participants' skills in programming, artificial intelligence, and robotics, through practical projects to build a smart city and monitor weather changes. The camp concluded with students presenting their projects in an inspiring experience that reflected their advanced skills and growing understanding of modern technologies. The summer camp stands as a key highlight in the 2025 summer programme series. It reflected a shared commitment to empowering the emerging generation with advanced knowledge and technical skills in technology and digital manufacturing. Studio 5 is an innovative Fab Lab established by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to empower children, youth, and educators through immersive technology education. As a dynamic community platform, it provides cutting-edge technology and hands-on experiences, fostering problem-solving, critical thinking, creativity, and innovation skills. Studio 5 empowers and inspires the next generation to become visionary technology creators.
