Moses Itauma: Ben Davison's planning helped me fall back in love with boxing
It will be the 13th fight of Itauma's (12-0, 10KOs) fledgling career and only his fifth under Davison, but the Chatham southpaw recently detailed how he started to 'hate' boxing barely a year after he turned professional at the start of 2023.

'Being in the ring (sparring) with all these heavyweights Daniel Dubois, Joe Joyce, Tyson Fury, Lawrence Okolie, I know that there are levels to boxing and I just felt like I was unable to learn any more,' Itauma revealed.
'I don't want to disrespect any of the coaches I tried or did work with. I love and respect them, but with Ben, he taught me a different side to boxing.
'He taught me there is more to boxing than punch, punch, get punched, punch back, punch, punch, punch. There is actually a whole chess game to this.'
Itauma split from old trainer Alan Smith in March, 2024 after a first-round knockout victory over Dan Garber in his eighth professional bout and eventually decided to join Davison's stacked Essex stable after trials elsewhere.
Davison, who has worked with Fury and more recently Anthony Joshua, is now a key figure in the team of a boxer widely tipped as a soon-to-be world heavyweight champion, but the Slovakian-born fighter may have considered his future in the sport if he had not listened to older brother Karol Itauma (13-1, 8KOs).
'What I mean with falling out of love with boxing is, it was kind of like I felt like I reached a barrier and I was unable to break it,' Itauma added.

'I tried out a lot of coaches and Ben Davison was actually the last one I tried. If I'll be honest, when I went to Ben, I was like he has too many stars in the gym, he won't really have time for me, he won't give me time I need but my brother was like there is no harm in trying Ben Davison.
'And I went there and as I walked through the doors, there is a glass window on the door where you can see inside the gym and Ben has got all my fights up.
'He is writing in his notepad and he was like, 'you do this, I don't know if you're aware of it, now we need to make you aware of this and do this, this and this,' and I was like, 'rah, none of the other coaches did that,'.
'And it was only when I started sparring, he would say, 'if I do this, he will do this and you can capitalise,' and I would go and do it, it would pay off and I'd be like what!
'Obviously we just clicked from there but the most impressive thing is how you have so many stars in the gym but each individual fighter gets the necessary time.'

Fry spoke to WalesOnline earlier this year about starting work as an estate agent in Bristol, with his career seemingly behind him, but he will now lace up his boots again after joining the Rags. ''It's an absolute privilege to have signed for Cardiff," said the 26-year-old as his signing was confirmed. "I'm Cardiff born and bred, and it's always something that I've wanted to do. The last time I played for Cardiff was for Cardiff Schools under-15s, so to be able to put the jersey back on and represent my home town is an absolute honour. Article continues below 'I finished rugby for a year; one part of it was family, the second part of it was the state of rugby, and the third part was that I was working in Bristol. I've got the itch back to play,' he added as he reflected on why he initially quit the sport. 'Fortunately, I've got a job back in Cardiff and that has given me the opportunity to get back into things. So I reached out to Fishy [Cardiff RFC head coach Dan Fish] and, fortunately enough, he's been kind enough to bring me on board. So I'm really excited about it.' Springbok great dies Former South Africa international and widely-respected coach Dawie Snyman has died at the age of 76, following an illness. A utility back during his playing days, he won 10 Test caps for the Springboks during the 1970s, playing at both full-back and fly-half. In total, he represented his country on 22 occasions, scoring 86 points. Snyman - whose older brother Jackie also played Test rugby for South Africa - also made 60 appearances for Western Province and went on to become one of the most successful coaches in their history after hanging up his boots. Between 1982 and 1986, he coached the club to five consecutive Currie Cup titles, while they also shared the title with the Bulls in 1989 under his leadership. Snyman went on to coach South Africa at the 1997 Sevens World Cup, with the Blitzboks ultimately losing to Fiji in the final, while he was also involved with the Lions and at Stellenbosch University. Paying tribute to the late player and coach as "one of the greats of South African rugby", SA Rugby president Mark Alexander said: 'Dawie will not only be remembered as a determined player who worked extremely hard and succeeded at international level in two positions, but also as one of the finest coaches South African rugby has known. Rodgers aiming for big performance in first leg of 'huge' play-off tie
Brendan Rodgers says Celtic will be looking to 'set their standards' in the first leg of their Champions League play-off and to get a good result to take over to Kazakhstan. The Hoops take on Kairat Almaty for a place in Europe's top competition, and the manager is aiming for a good win at Parkhead to set themselves up for a daunting 7,000-mile trip to the Asian border. Rodgers, who is hoping the Scottish champions can add to their squad before next week's first leg, admits they would have preferred to play Slovan Bratislava, who they beat comfortably in the league phase last season. Kairat beat the Slovakian champions on penalties midweek and now stand between Celtic and another shot at the Champions League. Speaking to the media on Thursday, Rodgers said: 'If we're being honest, then everyone would have preferred the closer team, and not the longer journey. But it is what it is. We have been there before, and in the first leg we will want to make a real push to set our standards on that game, and then we will go over there the following week and look to qualify. 'It is such a huge game, and when it comes, we will be ready for it. 'When we get there, we will be prepared and ready. 'Hopefully, we can add to the team before then. We have right up until the night before the game to add to the squad, so we hope that can be the case. 'We hope that we can improve it, and hopefully by then, we will do. 'I'm philosophical about (bringing new players in), the club has always done business towards the end of the window, all managers and coaches want players in as soon as we can, because you want to be as prepared as you possibly can be. 'What I think has gone unnoticed a little bit is that we have made a really good start, we have two wins from two, played well, and I know we will get better, but I can't knock the performances over the two games to get the results. 'So I am just focusing on the guys that are here while lots of other stuff goes on in the background, and hopefully we can come out of the end of the transfer window in a good place.'
