Yogi likens Opposition to frogs in a well, attacks it with Parivar Development Authority barb

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath presented his ambitious 'Vision-2047' for Uttar Pradesh in the legislative assembly on Thursday and attacked the Opposition, ridiculing the Samajwadi Party's PDA slogan as 'Parivar Development Authority.' Chief minister Yogi Adityanath addresses the UP Assembly on the fourth day of the Monsoon session in Lucknow on Thursday. (Deepak Gupta/HT Photo) Accusing the Opposition of fostering a family-centric political culture, he said they should not even dream of coming to power in 2027. The SP's PDA formula is an acronym for Pichda or backwards, Dalits and Alpsankhyak or minorities. 'Your PDA stands for Parivar Development Authority. Your vision is solely to grab power. How can those who imported Queen Victoria's carriage from Buckingham Palace talk about Swadeshi?' Yogi said, contrasting the governance from 1947-2017 with the work done during his tenure since 2017. In his marathon 2-hour 35-minute address, the chief minister likened the Opposition to frogs in a well. 'Swami Vivekananda called this mindset 'Koop Manduk'. The world is progressing, but you remain stuck in family politics. You've become a victim of the Family Development Authority and want to make the state a victim too,' he said. Accusing the Opposition of hypocrisy, he said, 'They talk about freedom, but practise slavery. Will those who wanted a memorial for Duryodhana respect Indian heritage?' Mentioning the encephalitis crisis in eastern UP in the past, he said, 'In 40 years, 50,000 children died, and the Samajwadi Party was in power four times. Who is responsible for those deaths?' Referring to the minimum support price (MSP) for crops and farmer issues, the CM said the Opposition only deceived farmers before 2017. 'You bought produce through middlemen. Today, under DBT, farmers receive direct benefits.' 'Leader of Opposition Mata Prasad Pandey is very old and experienced. When he speaks from his own discretion, he speaks correctly, but when he starts being driven by others, then there is a problem,' Adityanath said. 'How will those who tear the pages of Ramcharitmanas respect heritage? When you people can cheat the cow, then who will you not cheat? You used to drink cow's milk but used to leave them on the streets, used to hand them over to the butchers. Today, under the double engine government, cows have been kept in 7727 cow shelters. You definitely drank cow's milk, but did not do anything that can express gratitude towards the cow. The curse of the cow will drown you. That is why, do not dream of coming to power in 2027,' the chief minister said. The Uttar Pradesh assembly elections are due in 2027. Reading the lines from a poem by Pandit Shyam Narayan Pandey in front of Mata Prasad Pandey, Yogi said, 'Not every person can get the heritage of UP, this is the seat of Mahakaal, no one rules over it.' Continuing his attack on the Opposition, he said, 'A respected member of the Opposition was saying that the vision was theirs. Incomplete network and stagnant investment from 1947 to 2017 shows their vision.' He put the Opposition in the dock regarding the spirit of Swadeshi, the interests of entrepreneurs, the closure of industries before 2017 and the situation of migration in the state. 'You did pick and choose while giving the benefit of government schemes but for us, all people living in Uttar Pradesh are equal. If a head of state comes to meet me, I gift them ODOP products but you used Buckingham's carriage to celebrate Saifai Mahotsav and birthday in Rampur. This is your double character and vision,' the chief minister said in the assembly. Jibe at Shivpal The chief minister took a jibe at senior SP leader Shivpal Yadav during his speech in the assembly. 'Shivpal was the last in the party under the legacy of Mulayam Singh Yadav but even Chacha (Shivpal Yadav) was fooled,' he said. No enemy in politics The chief minister told the leader of Opposition to have good relations with deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak, who is also the state's health minister. Mentioning a medical college in Siddharthnagar, Yogi said, 'You (Mata Prasad) should call the deputy CM there sometime over lunch. One should not be an enemy at this age.' Citing health reasons, the chief minister further told Pandey, 'He (Pathak) can provide super speciality services when it is needed (by you).' 'We teach G for Ganesh, you…' Talking about education, Yogi said, 'We teach G for Ganesh and G for gamla (flower pot), you have taught the children of the state from G for donkey. You encouraged cheating in the examinations. Do not make innocent children a victim of the distorted thinking of your politics. When you came to power you said cheating is a birthright.' SP tagged as anti-women Taking a dig at the SP on the issue of women's safety, Adityanath said you people (Samajwadi Party) are openly branded as anti-women. 'Dekh Sapai Bitiya Ghabrai (daughters get scared if they see a SP member),' he said.

Meat shops in Pune & Pimpri-Chinchwad to remain open on I-Day & Janmashtami

With neither the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) nor the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) ordering the closure of slaughterhouses or meat shops on Independence Day, meat shops in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad will remain open as usual on August 15. The PCMC has over 1,200 meat and chicken shops in Pimpri-Chinchwad. While there are as many as 200 meat shop licence holders in the PMC jurisdiction. (REPRESENTATIVE PHOTO) The decision comes amid a nationwide controversy sparked by some municipal corporations in the country ordering the closure of slaughterhouses and meat shops on August 15 and 16 on account of Independence Day and Janmashtami, respectively. In Maharashtra, similar directions from civic bodies in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Kalyan-Dombivli, Malegaon and Nagpur have triggered sharp (political) reactions. While some groups have come out in support of the closure as a symbolic gesture, others have criticised it as unnecessary and discriminatory. In Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, civic officials confirmed that no such order has been issued which means these shops will remain open as usual on Independence Day and Janmashtami. The absence of a closure order in these cities has been welcomed by traders who said that such restrictions directly affect their livelihoods. However, the broader debate over whether or not meat shops should remain closed on national holidays continues across the state. Sandip Khot, deputy commissioner of the PCMC, said that no such order has been issued or will be issued directing closure of meat shops in Pimpri-Chinchwad. 'Some municipal corporations in the state who had issued similar orders have scrapped the decision. All meat shops in the twin city will remain open as usual. Also, there is no slaughterhouse in the PCMC jurisdiction,' he said. The PCMC has over 1,200 meat and chicken shops in Pimpri-Chinchwad. While there are as many as 200 meat shop licence holders in the PMC jurisdiction. Whereas, the PCMC does not have a slaughterhouse and the slaughterhouse in the PMC area is closed due to non-compliance with pollution control norms. Dr Sarika Funde-Bhosale, chief veterinary officer, said, 'We have not issued any orders to keep meat shops or slaughterhouses closed in the city on Independence Day or Janmashtami. After news that meat shops would remain closed in other districts on August 15 went viral, several traders contacted us and requested that we refrain from issuing similar orders. However, the PCMC does not plan to keep meat shops or slaughterhouses closed,' she said.

'Trump is hurt, humiliated... his best friend insulted him': Indian-origin Maga venture capitalist

Indian-origin MAGA venture capitalist Asha Jadeja Motwani has listed five things Donald Trump wants from India, saying the US President feels 'hurt and humiliated' after the ceasefire row and could lower tariffs if ties improve. Indian-origin venture capitalist Asha Jadeja Motwani has said that US President Donald Trump is 'hurt, humiliated and shocked' after feeling 'insulted' by a close ally over what she described as the 'ceasefire fiasco.' In a series of posts on social media platform X, Motwani, who has publicly aligned herself with the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement, urged India to extend warmth towards Trump to help mend ties, saying this could pave the way for a reduction in US tariffs on Indian goods. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'Will Trump reduce the tariffs on India? Yes! But this is dependent on how fast we melt him,' she wrote, adding that India should project itself as a 'peacebuilder' between Russia and Ukraine and engage in proactive public relations in the West. She also suggested that major Indian business houses could announce investment commitments in the US ahead of Trump's expected visit for the Quad summit. Will trump reduce the tariffs on India? Yes! But this is dependent on how FAST we melt him. He is hurt, humiliated and shocked that his best friend insulted him in public on the ceasefire fiasco (justified or not). He will come around, but SHOW him the warmth that we genuinely… — Asha Jadeja Motwani 🇮🇳🇺🇸 (@ashajadeja325) August 13, 2025 In another post, Motwani claimed to know what Trump 'wants from India,' and listed five expectations: A massive investment pledge from India's top business houses, ranging from $100 billion to $500 billion, in the US economy. Closure of deals for the purchase of Stryker and Javelin defence systems. Increased energy imports from the US and reduced dependence on Russian crude. Public thanks to Trump for his 'behind-the-scenes work' on controlling Chinese military equipment and support in Pakistan. More overt friendliness towards Trump, with Indians being 'more expressive' to show their affection. Below is a list of things Trump wants from India. How do i know? It is up to you to guess. But before I list them, kudos to the Indians for moving in the right direction fast.. the announcement backing the Trump Putin talks is a great first step along with Modi's conversation… — Asha Jadeja Motwani 🇮🇳🇺🇸 (@ashajadeja325) August 13, 2025 STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Motwani said these steps, along with 'niceness and agility,' could help bring US tariffs on Indian goods down to 'closer to 20%.' Ending her posts with 'Jai Hind' and blessings for both nations, she stressed: 'Be nice to Trump. He knows we love him, but we must show it more actively.' In another post, Motwani listed what she claimed were Trump's key expectations from India including a massive investment pledge from Indian conglomerates worth $100 billion to $500 billion in the US, closing deals on Stryker and Javelin defence systems, increasing US energy purchases, reducing reliance on Russian crude, and openly thanking Trump for behind-the-scenes support on China and Pakistan. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD She emphasised that being 'nice' to Trump and expressing affection more actively was essential. 'American culture is different from India. Be more expressive,' she said, ending her posts with 'Jai Hind' and blessings for both nations. President Trump earlier this month slapped 25 per cent additional tariff on India over the purchase of Russian oil. With this 25 per cent tariff, India will face at least 50 per cent tariffs among the highest in the world. This 25 per cent tariff over the purchase of Russian oil is on top of the 25 per cent tariff that Trump had previously imposed on India on July 31 as part of the broader rollout of tariffs on more than 60 countries.
