Uddingston Rugby Club drop-kick in balls for Dogs Trust Glasgow
TNT sports presenter Emma Dodds recently visited Dogs Trust Glasgow to witness the playful pooches show off their newly-perfected skills after the charity received a fantastic donation of 87 balls from Uddingston Rugby Club.
As part of a drive to be more sustainable and support a local worthy cause, members of the local club donated their used balls to the rehoming centre as they wanted to help the animals live a fun, loved and exciting life.
Since receiving the donation, the 53 handsome hounds at Dogs Trust Glasgow, on the outskirts of Uddingston, have been celebrating like they have won The Calcutta Cup, so Emma visited to see the dogs in action.
Dog owner Emma, who is passionate about animal welfare, enjoyed a fun playtime with terrier cross Jasper, who has been scoring tries galore with his rugby ball.
Emma Dodds said: 'I was delighted to visit Dogs Trust Glasgow, where it was lovely to see the dogs having so much fun playing – and what better sport than rugby?
'It was wonderful to hear that Uddingston Rugby Club donated so many balls to their local rehoming centre for the dogs.
'Meeting Jasper and watching his enthusiasm when playing with the ball was a thrill. Well done to everyone at the club for making such a positive difference to the dogs as they await their forever homes.'
And after their donation, the rugby club are now collecting blankets, beds and toys for the dogs
Alan Paul, director of rugby at Uddingston Rugby Club, said: 'We are a very charitable rugby club, and we believe in supporting our community and initiatives that align with our ethos.
'We had a stockpile of well-used rugby balls, which we didn't want to go to landfill. We wanted to donate them where we thought they would be most useful. Many of our members are dog owners, so we gave them to Dogs Trust Glasgow, where we hope the dogs will enjoy playing with them.
'It gives us great pride to know that the balls have brought much joy and fun to the dogs at our local rehoming centre. We are now collecting blankets, dog beds and toys for the dogs to offer more support to such a worthy cause.'
Sandra Downie, manager at Dogs Trust Glasgow, said: 'Thank you to Emma for visiting and to everyone at Uddingston Rugby Club for their wonderful donation. Our dogs are thrilled with their balls which are providing hours of fun.'
Sweet seven-year-old Jasper's favourite things are to play, learn new tricks, go on walking adventures and enjoy a snuggle after playtime. He could live with another dog in his new home and longs for a garden where he can play to his heart's content.

'Inside the NBA' fans receive early blow as schedule reveals huge change to show ahead of ESPN switch
If the preliminary schedule for ESPN's NBA coverage is to be believed, fans of 'Inside the NBA' may be headed for disappointment for the program's new home. Last year, ESPN agreed to a sublicensing deal with Turner Sports for the rights to air the popular NBA halftime and post-game show starring Ernie Johnson, Shaquille O'Neal, Kenny 'The Jet' Smith, and Charles Barkley. The deal was reached after Turner's network - TNT - lost the rights to air NBA games for the 2025-26 season and onward. But even though the show is set to still hit the airwaves, the possibility for ESPN altering the program remained. According to Jon Lewis of Sports Media Watch, ESPN's advance calendar lists the debut of the award-winning show set for ESPN's first NBA doubleheader of the season on October 22. However, it appears the network has only a half-hour block for the show. 'The show would run from 12:05-12:35am ET, leading to a Bristol-based SportsCenter at 12:35,' Lewis reported. A report from Sports Media Watch indicates ESPN will restrict the show to half-an-hour after the network broadcasts its first doubleheader of the season on October 22 Daily Mail Sport has reached out to ESPN for comment on this report. The programming decision has notably not been announced by the 'Worldwide Leader in Sports' and is likely subject to change. But Lewis reports that after that half-hour show leading out of the doubleheader, the schedule doesn't list 'Inside' to appear until Christmas Day. A report from last November noted that the show would air 'during key moments on the league's calendar: opening night, Christmas Day, the playoffs and the NBA Finals.' That report also added that it was 'also likely it will be on during Saturday nights in the second half of the season, when ABC has a prime-time package of games.' Fans and those appearing on the show have shared concerns for the rigidity of the company's programming windows as they transition to the new network. Last month, Barkley even joked about those concerns, saying, 'Are they gonna say we gotta go to the SportsCenter?' 'Inside' has been no the air since 1989 - debuting on TNT and going through multiple different analysts before arriving at the main roster of four stars.

Emma Raducanu was right to get a crying baby kicked out of her match
As a self-confessed tennis avoider – it's sweaty, monotonous, and that grunting is just weird – I admit I've never paid much attention to British star Emma Radacanu. That is, until I saw the footage of her this week, asking for a screaming child to be removed from the court at the Cincinnati Open. She may not have won against rival Aryna Sabalenka, but as far as I'm concerned it was Game, Set and Match to Radacanu, my new sporting heroine. Give her all the silverware. I commend Emma for finding the courage to speak up and complain about the noisy tot – or rather, its entitled parents – who seemingly were perfectly content to allow it to disturb a highly pressurised sports competition, the concentration of the players, and the enjoyment of the crowd who'd paid through the nose to be there. I use the word 'courage' very deliberately because it's actually not easy to do what Emma did, in full glare of TV cameras, and risk the wrath of equally entitled parents who see no issue with allowing little children, through no fault of their own, to wreak havoc on the enjoyment of others. Let me be clear, I do not subscribe to the old adage: 'Children should be seen and not heard'. I have two myself – boys, aged eight and 10 – and I fully support the progress we've made societally in acknowledging children, including them, and making them and their parents feel welcome and comfortable in the world we all share. However, just because you can bring children into certain settings, doesn't mean you should. And it definitely doesn't mean you have carte blanche to let them behave any which way, with no consideration for others. Yet, increasingly, that seems to be the hot take of many modern parents, whose awareness of and respect for others evaporated the moment they left the maternity ward. I've lost count of the moments in my own life spoiled by other people's children. Especially when there is no recognition that they either shouldn't be there in the first place or their behaviour needs to be carefully managed and moderated, out of consideration for others. From meals in posh restaurants that nobody in their right mind would class as kiddy-friendly, to evening theatre performances and sporting fixtures. My own peace and pleasure has been shattered on multiple occasions by babies and children crying, running wild, and generally being a nuisance. When I got married, I banned children from the entire wedding day, simply because I'd been at too many dominated by kids whose parents were having too much fun to actually parent them. There was no way that was happening on my big day. And even when some guests refused to come without their offspring, I held firm on the policy. Of course, any parent can find themselves in a situation where, even in an appropriate setting, the roaring starts or a cranky toddler has a meltdown. But what I, and other considerate mums and dads do, is swiftly exit. Many times I've had to abandon a half-drunk cup of coffee in a cafe or leave a shop prematurely because I simply wouldn't dream of co-opting people around me into my child 'having a moment'. Why didn't the tennis-watching parents of the crying baby stand up the moment they began to squeal, and leave? By the time Emma Radacanu raised it with the umpire, the crying had reportedly been going on for 10 minutes! Since having my sons, I've planned my social life carefully because the reality is, when you have children, there are just some locations and events you should avoid for the sake of others. More Trending Yes, it's frustrating but it's about being a realistic and decent person, and accepting this temporary parenthood penalty until they're a bit older. Now, I'd happily take them to a sporting event (like a tennis match) because I know they have the attention span and maturity to sit through it and behave. But when they were babies? Absolutely not! I've no doubt Emma's ears will be burning from outraged social media comments and chats on mum's forums about her complaint, but this mum applauds her. It's time parents woke up to the fact that the world doesn't revolve around our cherubs and if we want them to be included and respected, we need to show awareness of others. Rio Ferdinand lands 'surprise new Man United role' - as Premier League icon prepares to replace him on TNT Sports
Rio Ferdinand is reportedly poised to work with Manchester United in a surprise new role for the coming months. The former United defender stepped away from his punditry role with TNT Sports in May after more than a decade of service. During the club's tour of the United States this summer, the 46-year-old was involved in media and commercial content. That included keeping a tour diary, documenting his travels around New York and Chicago and sharing his thoughts on the team's performances. He also starred on-camera in player interviews and helped out with matchday content as part of a short-term deal.
