May 29 (UPI) -- Netflix is teasing The Thursday Murder Club starring Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan.
The actors, who also star opposite one another in MobLand, portray retirees Elizabeth and Ron, who enjoy solving cold cases alongside Ibrahim (Ben Kingsley) and Joyce (Celia Imrie).
The film takes its inspiration from Richard Osman's 2020 book, and follows the group as "their casual sleuthing takes a thrilling turn when they find themselves with a real whodunit on their hands," according to an official synopsis.
"There's been a murder, an actual murder," Joyce says in the trailer released Thursday. "Now we've got a real case to solve. Isn't it wonderful? Obviously, RIP and all that."
Chris Columbus, known for his work on Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, directs the film.
"This is the finest cast I've worked with since Potter," he told Netflix's Tudum. "They're just so incredibly well-prepared, and it's because they do everything. They do theater, they do television, they do film, and they've developed those sorts of muscles."
"Thematically it's interesting that we've got four elderly people who are living in a retirement community and who are fascinated by death and murder," he said. "They are facing their own demise, yet at the same time they are obsessed with studying cold cases. I fell in love thematically with that. It's comedic, but it's also very emotional."
Naomi Ackie, Daniel Mays, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Tom Ellis, Jonathan Pryce, David Tennant, Paul Freeman, Geoff Bell, Richard E. Grant and Ingrid Oliver also star in the film, which arrives on Netflix Aug. 28.

Pair who worked magic on ‘Stranger Things' house flipped this GA gem for sale

A Victorian home for sale in Savannah, Georgia, is brimming with Southern charm after a restoration done by a pair of well-known house flippers. The 3,777-square-foot home — listed for $2.49 million — took two years to renovate, a feat that was done by Shane Fatland and Bryan Schreier, a pair who famously restored the Creel house in Rome, Georgia, a house featured in season 4 of the hit Netflix series 'Stranger Things.' 'The renovation, completed over two years, involved extensive work on the exterior, including rebuilding porches and windows, and interior details like door and window casings,' a news release on the home says. The duo managed to capture the original roots of the five-bedroom, five-bathroom house, which was built in 1920, while updating the residence with modern sleekness. 'The home is bathed w/natural light through floor-to-ceiling oversized windows & historic doors. Elegant hardwood floors throughout. Details & surprises include custom built-ins & a wet bar,' the listing on Compass says. 'The chef's kitchen is truly a culinary enthusiast's dream: premium countertops an expansive 12-foot island over looking a private & secluded, lushly landscaped outdoor oasis features soaring palm trees, an in-ground saltwater pool & fire pit area.' Other details include a one-bedroom, one-bathroom guest apartment that sits above a workshop. There's also a private pool and attic space that was converted to another room. Fatland and Schreier 'left their home in Rome, Georgia, where, although their house was impressive, it gained notoriety after being featured on a television show, which made it difficult for them to live there,' the release says. The listing is held by Liza DiMarco of Compass Georgia.

Everything To Know About ‘Stranger Thing' Season 5: Trailer, Release Date & More

STRANGER THINGS. (L to R) Charlie Heaton as Jonathan Byers, Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers, Millie ... More Bobby Brown as Eleven, Noah Schnapp as Will Byers, David Harbour as Jim Hopper, Natalia Dyer as Nancy Wheeler, and Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler in STRANGER THINGS. It's been three years since new Stranger Things episodes aired – and fans are counting down the days until the highly-anticipated final season. Here's everything to know (so far) about Stranger Things Season 5, including the exciting news that could be announced tonight during Netflix's TUDUM 2025. Filming for the final season of Stranger Things began in January 2024 and wrapped 11 months later in December. In an emotional Instagram post, co-creator Ross Duffer reflected on what it's been like to tell these stories for a decade and to watch the cast grow up around him. 'We've been telling this story for nearly a decade now. Many of our cast members joined us when they were kids, just ten or eleven years old. It wasn't just a show for them—it was a defining part of their childhood. They've grown up before our eyes, becoming more than actors—they've become family,' he said. The co-creator added that everyone involved in Season 5 'was determined to bring this story to a satisfying conclusion. They poured their hearts and souls into it, and we couldn't be more proud of what they've accomplished.' STRANGER THINGS. (L to R) Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, Noah Schnapp as Will Byers, Finn Wolfhard as ... More Mike Wheeler, Charlie Heaton as Jonathan Byers, and Eduardo Franco as Argyle in STRANGER THINGS. Cr. Courtesy of Netflix © 2022 Netflix has yet to announce an official release date for Stranger Things Season 5, though the streamer has confirmed it will debut sometime in 2025. There's a strong possibility Season 5 will be split into two parts, similar to Season 4. (Volume One was released on May 27, followed by Volume Two five weeks later on July 1.) This is a common release strategy Netflix often uses for its most-popular series, including The Witcher, Bridgerton, and Emily in Paris. More details about the release date could be revealed during Netflix's Tudum event on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT. (Don't worry – If you're not watching live, i'll be updating this story with the latest information as it comes in.) STRANGER THINGS. (L to R) Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers and David Harbour as Jim Hopper in STRANGER ... More THINGS. Netflix confirmed via a cast photo that the main cast will return for Stranger Things Season 5, including Noah Schnapp, Millie Bobby Brown, David Harbour, Winona Ryder, Cara Buono, Joe Keery, Amybeth McNulty, Charlie Heaton, Brett Gelman, Maya Hawke, Natalia Dyer, Jamie Campbell Bower, Priah Ferguson, Linda Hamilton, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, the Duffer Brothers (Ross and Matt), Finn Wolfhard, and Sadie Sink. New additions to the cast for the final run include Linda Hamilton, Nell Fisher, Jake Connelly and Alex Breaux. Hamilton will be playing a new role in Hawkins, though not much is known about her character yet. STRANGER THINGS. (L to R) David Harbour as Jim Hopper and Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven in STRANGER ... More THINGS. The plot for Stranger Things Season 5 remains tightly under wraps, but the next chapter will pick up after the explosive Season 4, Part 2 finale, where the Hawkins crew tried to take down Vecna for good. Max volunteered to serve as bait to lure Vecna in, while Eleven used a sensory deprivation tank to enter Max's mind and confront Vecna directly. After Vecna killed Max, triggering the opening of the fourth gate, Eleven used her powers to revive her, although Max remained in a coma. In one of the most heartbreaking moments from 'Chapter Nine: The Piggyback,' Eddie Munson sacrificed himself to distract the demobats and protect his friends. Though severely injured, Vecna managed to escape. In the final moments, Hawkins is left in ruins, with the barrier between the real world and the Upside Down rendered nonexistent. Matt and Ross Duffer told Deadline in 2023 that their goal for Season 5 is to 'stick the landing.' 'Characters are already going to be in action, they're already going to have a goal and a drive, and I think that's going to carve out at least a couple hours and make this season feel really different,' Matt explained. 'I'm sure the wrap-up will be a lot longer. It's going to be 'Return of the King'-ish with, like, eight endings. STRANGER THINGS. (L to R) Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers and David Harbour as Jim Hopper in STRANGER ... More THINGS. The first teaser trailer for Stranger Things Season 5 is expected to drop Saturday, May 31, 2025, during Netflix's TUDUM event. Stay tuned to learn more.
