to China, a U.S. official told Reuters on Friday, removing a significant hurdle to the AI bellwether's access to a key market.
The U.S. last month reversed an April ban on the sale of the H20 chip to China. The company had tailored the microprocessor specially to the Chinese market to comply with the Biden-era
AI chip export controls

The curbs will slice $8 billion off sales from its July quarter, the chipmaker has warned.

met with Trump on Wednesday, two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.
A spokesperson for Nvidia declined comment. A White House spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The company said in July it was filing applications with the U.S. government to resume sales to China of the
H20 graphics processing unit
, and had been assured it would get the licenses soon.
It is unclear how many licenses may have been issued, which companies Nvidia is allowed to ship the H20s to, and the value of the shipments allowed.
Nvidia disclosed in April that it expected a $5.5 billion charge related to the restrictions. In May, Nvidia said the actual first-quarter charge due to the H20 restrictions was $1 billion less than expected because it was able to reuse some materials.
The Financial Times first reported Friday's developments.
Nvidia said last month that its products have no "backdoors" that would allow remote access or control after China raised concerns over potential security risks in the H20 chip.
BIG MARKET
Exports of Nvidia's other advanced AI chips, barring the H20, to China are still restricted.
Successive U.S. administrations have curbed exports of advanced chips to China, looking to stymie Beijing's AI and defense development.
While this has impacted U.S. firms' ability to fully address booming demand from China, one of the world's largest semiconductor markets, it still remains an important revenue driver for American chipmakers.
Huang has said the company's leadership position could slip without sales to China, where developers were being courted by Huawei Technologies with chips produced in China.
In May, Nvidia said the H20 had brought in $4.6 billion in sales in the first quarter and that China accounted for 12.5% of overall revenue during the period.

A recent announcement from the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will have far-reaching consequences for immigrants — including those on H-1B visas — who are waiting for green cards. Undo From February 2023, USCIS had used the more generous 'Dates for filing chart' to determine visa availability, giving children a longer window to remain eligible as derivatives on their parent's application. Starting Aug 15, for adjustment of status filed after that date, USCIS will revert to the 'Final action dates chart' — typically less favourable — for calculating age under the CSPA. Immigration attorneys say that in practical terms, this revision means many children who would have been protected under the previous policy will now risk aging out and losing their path to permanent residency (green card). According to a March 2023 analysis by David J. Bier, director of immigration studies at the Cato Institute, the employment-based green card backlog stood at 10.7 lakh for Indians in the employment linked (EB-2 and EB-3 categories). Cato projects that nearly 1.34 lakh children from these families could age out before a green card becomes available — and the more restrictive age calculation could push those numbers higher. Doug Rand, a former Department of Homeland Security official who helped craft the 2023 policy, criticised the reversal. 'It's such a petty and obnoxious thing to do. Of course, the Trump administration is causing fear and heartbreak at a massive scale, across the immigration system, and this may seem like a small thing in the grand scheme,' he said.

UP assembly holds AI training session for MLAs
Ahead of the monsoon session of the Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly commencing on Monday, a training session on artificial intelligence (AI) was held for the MLAs on Sunday. Experts from IIT-Kanpur conducted the session chaired by assembly speaker Satish Mahana. Over 200 legislators attended the session. We have also started AI enabled cameras which will help in many aspects. For example, one can get to know what all a member has spoken in a period of five years within seconds with the help of AI-enabled cameras,' Mahana said. 'This is not a step of just monitoring, but many other aspects of information are also associated with it,' he added. The session was divided into two parts where first was to introduce AI to the MLAs while in the second part, they were explained about real life application of AI. However, MLAs raised doubts too. 'AI can judge your objective. Hence AI would not be able to do analysis of the data it is taking and the objective with which that data was made. Will AI be able to differentiate between genuine data from the fabricated one? And what about data safety,' asked Sirathu MLA Pallavi Patel. Aradhana Mishra, Congress legislature party leader, said, 'More than introducing AI, the legislators need to be told how to connect dots between their working needs and the AI.' 'Introducing AI is a welcome step but a debate makes it better for the assembly,' said leader of the opposition Mata Prasad Pandey. Kaimganj MLA Surabhi Singh said, 'Can AI cater to the sentiments of our voters? This is significant as an MLA has to connect directly with voters.' The session will start at 11 am on August 13. This is the second such session after 2019. The special session will have primary debate that will be taken before the public and then tables in the assembly. 'In three-and-a-half years, sessions have been conducted smoothly and have witnessed increased participation of the members during debate and discussions. The fact is only twice the session had to be adjourned in the past three-and-a-half years. This successful conduct had a positive role of the opposition too,' Mahana added. Asked about the demand from the opposition regarding increasing days of session for debate, he said, 'The days are not less for debate. The monsoon sessions in the past have been conducted similarly.'

Modi inaugurates long-delayed Yellow Line, taking Bengaluru's Namma Metro network to 96 km
: Bengaluru's long wait for the Yellow Line of Namma Metro finally ended on Sunday, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 19.15-km corridor linking R.V. Road to Bommasandra. With this, the metro network in the city went up to 96 km. Bengaluru Metro is currently the second-largest metro network in the country after the Delhi Metro, which covers 353.3 km. The Prime Minister also flagged off the Vande Bharat Express between Bengaluru and Belagavi, along with two other Vande Bharat services launched virtually. The Yellow Line, a key metro link connecting the city's IT hub in Electronics City and expected to significantly ease traffic congestion at bottlenecks, such as the Silk Board junction, has been plagued by delays since construction began in 2017. Originally envisioned in the 2011 Detailed Project Report prepared by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the project was initially scheduled for completion by December 2021. However, setbacks, including protracted land acquisition, disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, and delays in rolling stock supply from Chinese manufacturer CRRC Nanjing, pushed the timeline by nearly four years. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) officials expect the Yellow Line to carry over 2.5 lakh passengers daily once the full fleet of trains is delivered and operational. The corridor integrates with major metro lines at key junctions: R.V. Road (Green Line), Jayadeva Hospital (Pink Line), and Central Silk Board (Blue Line, Phases 2A & 2B). According to officials, the maximum fare on the Yellow Line, which will start revenue services from Monday, will be ₹60. Packed schedule of PM Mr. Modi arrived in Bengaluru on Sunday morning at HAL Airport and then travelled by helicopter to the Indian Air Force Training Command in the city, where he was received by Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Following the event, the Prime Minister proceeded to Ragigudda Metro Station to inaugurate the Yellow Line. There, he flagged off the inaugural service, tried out the QR code-enabled ticket vending machines, and boarded the metro to Electronics City. Speaking to The Hindu, a BMRCL official said the train was piloted by a woman loco pilot. 'Schoolchildren, metro officials, and some members of the public were also onboard, and Mr. Modi interacted with them during the journey,' the official said. Namma Metro's Phase 3 At the end of his metro ride to Infosys Foundation Konappana Agrahara Metro Station, the Prime Minister went to the IIIT Auditorium in Electronics City Phase 1. There, he laid the foundation stone for Namma Metro's Phase 3, also known as the Orange Line, and addressed a gathering. The Phase 3 will be fully elevated and is planned to serve underserved areas along Magadi Road and the western portion of the Outer Ring Road. Once completed in 2029, it is projected to accommodate 7.85 lakh commuters daily and will extend Bengaluru's metro network to 222.2 km, according to BMRCL officials. The project has cleared all mandatory hurdles, receiving Union Cabinet approval in August 2024.
