Texas A&M junior shortstop selected 103rd overall by the New York Yankees in the MLB Draft
LaViolette and Lamkin were expected to go in the first three rounds, and while Kaeden Kent's legendary status with the Aggies was cemented after the 2025 season, his draft status was up and down, and he was not ranked inside MLB Pipeline's Top 250 prospect rankings. Yes, Kent is the son of Jeff Kent, who should be in the Hall of Fame by now, but like his son, defense was an issue throughout his career.
However, Kent improved significantly this season as a defender, while his big-game offense has produced several memorable moments over the last two seasons. Kent shot on the scene with scouts during the 2024 Super Regional round vs. Oregon, breaking the game wide open and sending the Aggies to the College World Series.
Kent's career numbers in College Station include 135 appearances and 101 starts, a .290/.389/.494 slash line, 18 home runs, 100 RBIs, 23 doubles, 61 walks, a .948 fielding percentage, and just 72 strikeouts. Kent's decision to compete in the MLB Combine in Phoenix was likely a sign that led to Earley adding shortstops Chris Hacopian and Maddox Latta from the transfer portal.
According to GigEm247's Carter Karels, Ken's assigned slot value as the 103rd overall pick is $744,400, which is likely too enticing to pass up.

Can the Brewers' hot summer carry to the postseason?
Yahoo Sports senior MLB analyst Jordan Shusterman is joined by Marquee Sports analyst Lance Brozdowski to discuss Milwaukee's run to the top of the NL Central and if the team can keep it going. Hear the full conversation on the 'Baseball Bar-B-Cast' podcast - and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube or wherever you listen. View more Video Transcript This Brewers run has been remarkable. They have the best record in baseball. They have won nine in a row. This was their ninth sweep of the season. Uh, big picture, what are you taking away from this? This incredible Brewer season so far. I think my angle is trying to figure out how sustainable this is. You know, it's such an incredible run. I'm trying to contextualize the fact that they're basically top three in every offensive and pitching stat, and their pen is great, and everything is like coming up Brewers; and I just struggle to see how they stay this hot. Like, if they stay this hot, they're winning the World Series is probably the answer. So you have to think about, okay, if they don't stay this hot, what do they come down to? And then does like the Dodgers all of a sudden look like a force from a rotation standpoint with Snell back and Otani striking out everybody, like, does that end up being like a coin flip series as you get into maybe the ALCS or a divisional round or something? So. Man, I, I, it's tough to see this team cooling off. They have a massive five games in four days with the Cubs starting next Monday with a doubleheader. That game is going to shake out the NL Central. And I think that has massive implications on kind of how good, I guess, the Brewers are, which I think is very good. Oh, totally. And I think it's so interesting because I'm almost getting to a point in a bizarre way that we used to feel about the Dodgers in the postseason where it's like, that's awesome, you're winning 105 games and you have all the best players, but we don't really care until you get to October. And in a weird way, the Brewers are almost in the same spot because we've seen them have these magical regular season runs before. Now, not like this, right? I mean, right now they're pacing for the best team in franchise history. But if we also think about it that way, the only other time they had the best record in baseball at the end of the regular season was 1982 when they went to the World Series. So this is obviously a franchise that is still trying to do that for the first time. I don't know what this looks like in October. You mentioned that they are ranking this highly in, in, You know, offensive and in pitching, and yet some of the underlying stuff is concerning, as you mentioned, like, are, aren't they still like 30th in barrel rate or whatever, like, stuff where you're just like, how are they doing this? Uh, but man, everything's coming. We got, we got Jacob Murrowski's pulling holographic Charizards in the postgame. I mean, everything is coming up Brewers. This is really remarkable. Close

Wisconsin football omitted from preseason AP Poll
The first AP Poll for the 2025 season was released on Monday. The preseason ranking marks the first time the outlet has published a hierarchy since Jan. 20, after the Ohio State Buckeyes defeated the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the 2025 College Football Playoff title game. The Texas Longhorns, who fell to the Buckeyes on Jan. 10 in the Cotton Bowl Classic, hold the No. 1 position in the poll ahead of the 2025 slate. The Penn State Nittany Lions (No. 2), Ohio State (No. 3), Oregon Ducks (No. 7), Illinois Fighting Illini (No. 12), Michigan Wolverines (No. 14) and Indiana Hoosiers (No. 20) comprised the Big Ten talent featured on the poll's first installation of the season. The Nebraska Cornhuskers also received 23 votes, while the Iowa Hawkeyes reeled in five votes. Wisconsin, meanwhile, did not receive a single vote in Aug. 11's installation. UW finished the 2024 campaign with a 5-7 mark, which included a five-game losing streak to wrap the season. The Badgers' lackluster performance also resulted in the program's first season missing out on a bowl game in over 20 years. Most notably, Luke Fickell's crew is slated to line up across from six AP top 25 ranked programs throughout the 2025 season. With hopes of avenging its 42-10 Week 3 loss in 2024, Wisconsin will take on the No. 8-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide on Sept. 13 in Tuscaloosa. UW will then venture to Ann Arbor for a tilt against the Wolverines on Oct. 4 before back-to-back contests against the Buckeyes in Madison and Ducks in Eugene on Oct. 18 and Oct. 25, respectively. A road bout vs. the Hoosiers, another College Football Playoff team from 2024, awaits on Nov. 15 prior to a Nov. 22 clash against Illinois at Camp Randall. While talking heads across the country acknowledged how difficult UW's 2025 gauntlet was throughout the offseason, Monday's AP Poll reaffirms that notion. Outside of the Badgers' first two games against Miami (Ohio) and Middle Tennessee, UW will need to scratch and claw for the remainder of the season with first year offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes and quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. at the helm.
