Orlando Pirates news: Mofokeng fee, Makhaula decision looms
The 20-year-old starlet found the back of the net in what could potentially be his final outing in a Buccaneers shirt. Multiple clubs, including Al Ahly, FC Cincinnati, and Dutch giants PSV, are reportedly monitoring the talented midfielder.
Sources suggest that PSV are ready to make a serious offer.
'R100 million is like a round figure. It's more than that! The amount they were negotiating for was initially R120 million,' an insider said. 'You know it's not exactly what you want that you get, and that's why they are talking about the R100 million, but it's believed to be more than that.'
Another source added that while PSV had interest in Iqraam Rayners, Mofokeng has emerged as their top choice.
'There are different scouts from Holland who are believed to be working with recruiters for PSV,' the second insider shared. 'They enquired about Iqraam Rayners but now seem focused on a long-term investment—hence the shift to Mofokeng.'
Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates are also busy on the domestic front. Veteran midfielder Makhehlene Makhaula has been offered a new deal. His agent, Sizwe Ntshangase, confirmed that discussions have been positive.
'What I can confirm is that our discussions with Pirates have gone very well, to the satisfaction of both parties,' he said. 'It is up to Pirates to issue an official statement on Makhaula's contract and its duration.'
If Mofokeng does leave, it could mark a significant reshuffle in the Orlando Pirates midfield. Losing one of their brightest stars will be a blow, but retaining experience like Makhaula could be a stabilising factor.

Trump Tariffs: South Africa signs framework deal in ongoing US trade talks
The Department of Trade and Industry has confirmed it has signed a condition precedent document with the US Image: Armand Hough /Independent Newspapers As the countdown to the US's planned 30% tariff increase on South African exports edges closer, the Department of Trade and Industry has confirmed it has signed a condition precedent document with the US Trade Representative's office. According to the department, the document signed is a condition precedent, serving as a preliminary framework that outlines the necessary steps before a full trade agreement can be finalised. "We have not signed any substantive agreement yet. The document signed was a precedent condition document," Ministerial spokesperson Kaamil Alli said. "This is a precursor to the finalizing of the negotiations, which are ongoing". This comes after US President Donald Trump sent a formal letter to President Cyril Ramaphosa demanding action on trade imbalances and warning of the impending tariff hike set for August 1, 2025. The tariffs are aimed at addressing what the US describes as South Africa's 'unsustainable trade deficits' and longstanding market barriers. The US decision to increase tariffs on South African goods has raised concerns among industry experts and exporters, who warn that key sectors such as automotive, agriculture, and mining could be severely impacted. Next Stay Close ✕ Last week, IOL reported that Minister of Finance Enoch Godongwana warned that South Africa stands to lose around 100,000 jobs due to US tariffs if a trade deal is not renewed. "My prayer, first and foremost, is that the deal should be made by August 1st. And secondly, if it's not made, it would be useful that we get an extension until we finalise the deal,' he said. "Of course, the US has a huge economy. If we lose a trading partner such as the USA, it's going to have a major impact and create more unemployment in the economy.". Last month, the Automotive Business Council (Naamsa revealed that South Africa's vehicle exports to the United States have dropped dramatically following the imposition of US tariffs, with declines of 73% in the first quarter of 2025, and further falls of 80% and 85% in April and May, respectively. This was after Trump imposed a 25% tariff on all vehicles imported into the US earlier this year. IOL News Get your news on the go, click here to join the IOL News WhatsApp channel

Sundowns and Stellies reach agreement on Bafana Bafana star
Mamelodi Sundowns have reportedly reached an agreement with Stellenbosch FC to sign Fawaaz Basadien. Basadien has long been been linked with a possible move to Sundowns although Kaizer Chiefs were also reported to be in the race. However, after it emerged that Basadien had skipped Stellies training on Thursday, iDiski Times reports that the deal has been struck. Basadien is now expected to fly to Gauteng in the coming days to officially complete his move to the Brazilians. He will compete for a place in Miguel Cardoso's starting line-up with the likes of Aubrey Modiba and Devine Lunga among others. Basadien had an impressive 2024-25 season with Stellies, playing 46 matches and scoring seven goals despite being a defender. And Sundowns believe he's the right man to do the job for them on the left-hand side of the pitch in the new season. Basadien, who is a full Bafana Bafana international, will reunite with Iqraam Rayners and Jayden Adams who also joined Sundowns from Stellies. Fawaaz Basadien at Stellenbosch FC Image via @StellenboschFC on X 'Mamelodi Sundowns have reached a club-to-club agreement with Stellenbosch FC for defender Fawaaz Basadien,' reads part of the publication's report. 'First reported by SABC Sport, iDiski Times has been reliably informed that Sundowns finally reached agreement with Stellenbosch for the services of the Basadien for an undisclosed transfer fee.' Zakhele Lepasa speaks after leaving Orlando Pirates
After seven years, Zakhele Lepasa has left Orlando Pirates after the club opted not to renew his contract. The 28-year-old Bafana Bafana forward spent most of last season injured. He failed to make a single appearance last campaign and was not part of the team that toured Spain. On Friday, the club confirmed Lepasa's departure. 'Thank you Zakhele Lepasa, for your commitment and contribution to Orlando Pirates. We wish you the very best in your next chapter. Once and always,' Orlando Pirates wrote in a social media post. On Thursday, Lepasa explained why he did not make an appearance for Pirates last season. 'I obviously did not play the entire season due to an injury, and this is the first time this has happened in my career,' the striker told the media. 'With the season about to start, one thing that would mean a lot would be seeing myself back on the field, wearing a football jersey, and being able to get the first minutes of the season. 'Doubt will be cast on my football career and my life, as I wonder if I can do what I do best and return to the national team, among other goals.' 'I have not yet seen the results of my efforts, but this period in my career has only intensified my hunger due to the pain I experienced and the sacrifices I made over the past year.' 'Therefore, it was not easy for me to return to playing football. It was close to impossible at some point. 'But for me, having to play and see myself more regularly on the field is going to bring joy to me,' Lepasa. On Thursday, the striker was included in Bafana Bafana's CHAN (African Nations Championship) squad. In the seven years with Orlando Pirates, Lepasa won six trophies and played a huge role in helping the Buccaneers win their first trophy in six years back in 2020.
