Earlier, EPFO allowed housing withdrawals after 5 years, based on limited contributions. Under Para 68-BD, members can now withdraw 90% once in a lifetime with fewer rules
In a major relief for salaried employees looking to buy a home, the government has revised the Provident Fund withdrawal rules to make the process easier. Under the updated guidelines, EPFO members can now withdraw up to 90% of their PF savings after just three years of account opening. The withdrawn amount can be used for down payments, home construction, or even EMI payments.
Previously, EPFO members could only withdraw funds for housing needs after five years, with the amount calculated based on the lower of the employer's and employee's contributions over 36 months plus interest.
The new rule, Para 68-BD of the EPF Scheme, 1952, eliminates these constraints, providing significant relief and convenience for members. However, this withdrawal facility can be utilised only once in a lifetime.
Why The PF Withdrawal Rules Were Changed
The changes aim to simplify withdrawal rules, reduce down payment difficulties, activate passive savings, and make home buying more convenient for EPFO members. Alongside the new housing withdrawal rule, several other significant updates have been introduced to improve the overall PF withdrawal process.
From June 2025, EPFO members will be able to withdraw up to Rs 1 lakh instantly through UPI and ATM in emergencies. The auto settlement limit has been increased from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.
Additionally, the claims process has been streamlined, reducing the number of document checks from 27 to 18 parameters. Consequently, 95 percent of claims are now settled within 3-4 days, enhancing liquidity for employees.
To withdraw PF for purchasing a house, applicants must apply online through the EPFO Member e-Sewa portal. Aadhaar, PAN, and bank details must be linked to the Universal Account Number (UAN). After logging in, navigate to 'Online Services," select 'Claim (Form-31, 19 & 10C)," and choose 'PF Advance (Form 31)." The purpose should be specified as 'Purchase of House," and the required amount must be entered.
Relevant documents, such as the sale agreement, may need to be uploaded. Once submitted, the application status can be tracked online, and upon approval, funds are credited to the bank account.

Elevation Capital sells Rs 226 crore worth shares in Ixigo parent Le Travenues Technology
Elevation Capital (formerly Saif Partners India) has sold 1.01 crore shares in Le Travenues Technology, the parent company of online travel aggregator Ixigo, the company said in a filing. At Tuesday's closing price, the transaction was worth Rs 226 crore. Global investor Schroder International Selection Fund is said to have acquired these shares, with the fund now having around a 5% stake in the company, as per sources. Earlier it had acquired 53.6 lakh shares in the company worth Rs 96.9 crore. The venture firm has been reducing its shareholding in the company. Last month, it sold 53.9 lakh shares in Ixigo for Rs 97.4 crore. Prior to this, Elevation Capital sold 21.5 lakh shares in Ixigo in May for Rs 38.27 crore. According to a stock exchange filing, Elevation had around a 9.04% stake in the company, holding around 3.53 crore shares. The early-stage venture capital firm continues to hold a 6.45% stake in the company. Elevation Capital had invested Rs 63.1 crore in Ixigo through various tranches. Prior to this, the venture capital firm had sold shares worth Rs 100 crore through a pre-IPO secondary sale and sold shares worth around Rs 181 crore from the offer for sale (OFS) component of the company's IPO. The company saw its operating revenue increase by 73% year-on-year (YoY) to Rs 314 crore for the quarter ended June on account of growth across all lines of business, effective cross-selling and up-selling to its user base, and artificial intelligence (AI)-driven efficiency. The company posted a net profit of Rs 19 crore for the quarter, marking a 27% rise from Rs 15 crore in the same period last in 2007 by Aloke Bajpai and Rajnish Kumar, Ixigo allows users to book train, flight, and bus tickets while offering various utility tools and services such as train PNR status and confirmation predictions and updates on train seat availability. It also provides personalised recommendations and automated customer support. According to the company, it has 544 million annual active users with 83 million monthly active users.

TTD receives Rs 5.6 crore in donations from two Hyderabad donors
Agency: PTI Last Updated: Tirupati, Jul 24 (PTI) The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) on Thursday received donations totalling Rs 5.6 crore from two Hyderabad-based donors, a late IRS officer and a private company. According to an official release, late IRS officer YVSS Bhaskar Rao had bequeathed assets worth Rs 3.66 crore to the temple trust. The donation included a residential property valued at Rs 3 crore and Rs 66 lakh in cash. The contribution was formally handed over to TTD officials. The cash Rs 66 lakh is to be distributed among various TTD trusts, including Rs 36 lakh to the Sri Venkateswara Annaprasadam Trust, and Rs 6 lakh each to the Sri Venkateswara Sarva Sreyas Trust, Veda Parirakshana Trust, Go Samrakshana Trust, Vidyadana Trust, and SRIVANI Trust. Three trustees of Rao handed over the property documents and donation cheques to TTD additional executive officer Venkaiah Chowdary, it said. Trinity Combine Private Ltd company contributed Rs 2 crore to the temple body's Sri Venkateswara Annaprasadam Trust in the form of multiple cheques.
