Dubai Sports Council & Landmark discuss Preparations to organize the 'Beat Diabetes Walk'

H.E. Saeed Hareb, the Secretary General of Dubai Sports Council (DSC) received the Landmark Group's delegation, headed by Ms. Nisha Jagtiani, the Group's Director, in the presence of H.E. Naser Aman Al-Rahma, Assistant Secretary General of DSC.
The meeting discussed the constant cooperation between DSC & the Landmark Group to organize various community events, & dealt with latest preparations for arranging the 'Beat Diabetes Walk', confirming that this year's version of the Walk will be distinctive, as it coincides with the Year of the Community, taking into account that this Walk is one of the most eminent community events that attract tens of thousands of participants of various ages, multi-nationalities & different classes of society. The Walk also witnesses increasing development in the numbers of participants every year. Respective bodies endeavor to make the current version the biggest ever since the launch of this leading initiative, which has been held with participation of more than 165 thousand participants throughout 14 versions.
H.E. Saeed Hareb confirmed DSC's constant keenness to provide all factors of support to all community events.
He stated: 'We organize hundreds of community events every year at various destinations of Dubai targeting all classes in society, particularly the Beat Diabetes Walk; the annual prominent event which has been launched since 2009 as part of DSC's strategy to support community initiatives & boost sports activities and to make the same as lifestyle in society, aiming to reduce diseases, improve individuals' competence to deal with life's daily burdens and enhance life's quality'.
He lauded the remarkable success & distinctive participation in the Beat Diabetes Walk every year, as it aims to enhance the level of awareness with the negative sides of diabetes and to motivate all individuals in society to exercise different sports activities to maintain health & avert unhealthy behavior. The Initiative also aims to increase awareness with the importance of the exercise of sport as a source of happiness and a way of prevention from diabetes.
Ms. Nisha Jagtiani affirmed that the 'Beat Diabetes Initiative, since its launch in 2009, presents vital role to boost the level of awareness with diabetes, and it mainly focuses on how to prevent & deal with the disease. Among the most notable achievements of the Initiative is the organization of 14 successful walkathons to combat diabetes, with the participation of more than 165,000 participants / conducting more than 700,000 free blood sugar tests / communicating with 30 thousand children through various programs / joining more than 100 partnerships with public & private sectors. The Walk is organized annually in partnership between private sector & governmental entities'.
In conclusion of the visit, H.E. Saeed Hareb accompanied the guests in a tour around DSC's premises, and briefed them on the Sports Events Guide, and the eminent role & tasks of DSC's departments & sections. Both parties exchanged trophies & memorial gifts.

In a year designated by the wise leadership as the 'Year of Community,' Sheikha Sheikha Bint Saif Bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, wife of Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Adviser to the UAE President and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Make-A-Wish Foundation UAE, affirmed that the foundation succeeded in embodying its humanitarian vision, achieving its strategy and mission by bringing joy and hope to the hearts of hundreds of children suffering from life-threatening illnesses. This was realised through the fulfilment of 418 wishes in just the first half of 2025. Sheikha Sheikha Bint Saif stated, "The Year of the Community was a powerful motivator for us to double our efforts and elevate our sense of responsibility towards sick children and their families, reaffirming that the UAE will always remain a beacon of hope and a voice of compassion.' She added, "The 'Year of the Community' was not just a slogan, but a moment of national and humanitarian consciousness in which the UAE's community—both institutions and individuals—proved that solidarity and generosity are at the heart of the Emirati identity. Sick children deserve that we all be a bridge connecting them to life, to hope, and to happiness.' Sheikha Sheikha Bint Saif clarified that the foundation granted wishes in three sister countries: Egypt (109 wishes), Jordan (63 wishes), and Yemen (15 wishes), in addition to 231 wishes granted within the UAE. The wishes this year included children from 25 different nationalities, reflecting the foundation's deep human diversity and cultural openness. She continued, "Every wish we fulfill is a message of life, and every child's smile lights the paths of hope and restores the true meaning of humanity. These achievements are the result of joint efforts and fruitful cooperation between the foundation and its partners in both the public and private sectors.' In conclusion, Sheikha Sheikha Bint Saif extended heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all supporters, partners, and members of the foundation's team, saying, "You are the true heartbeat of this humanitarian work. Thanks to you, the foundation can continue fulfilling its noble mission with commitment and professionalism. You are our partners in turning small dreams into a bright and impactful reality. The wishes granted fell into three main categories: Wishes to receive something (369 wishes): These included cutting-edge electronic devices, bicycles and electric scooters, a Shaheen falcon, a camel, a horse, a piano, bedroom furniture, gold jewellrey, a television, outdoor playsets, and many more that reflected the diverse interests of children. Wishes to go somewhere (48 wishes): This included 9 domestic trips to destinations such as the Museum of the Future, Atlantis Hotel (with dolphin swimming experiences), Sharjah Safari, Warner Bros. Abu Dhabi, SeaWorld, Ferrari World, and other entertainment venues that combined joy and memorable experiences. Wishes to travel abroad (39 wishes): Destinations spanned cities and dreams around the world, including Disneyland Orlando, Paris, Tokyo, Japan, Manchester, Korea, Switzerland, Germany, Bosnia, the Maldives, Thailand, Moscow, India, the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, and religious journeys such as Umrah. National Guard carries out 347 rescue operations

The National Guard Command carried out 347 rescue operations on land and sea, within and outside the country, during the first half of 2025. These efforts are part of ongoing initiatives to strengthen the national response system and enhance the readiness of search and rescue teams across the nation. According to statistics, the National Search and Rescue Centre conducted 218 operations, including 63 search, rescue, and medical evacuation missions, 18 patient transport missions via air ambulance within the country, and 13 medical transport and air ambulance missions outside the country. Meanwhile, the Coast Guard Group carried out 129 search and rescue operations in the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman. The National Guard Command emphasised that these operations reflect their commitment to providing highly efficient services in the Year of the Community, utilising the latest technologies and equipment to ensure the safety of lives and rapid intervention in various conditions and geographical areas. They urged the public to contact the Search and Rescue Emergency Line at (995) and the Coast Guard Emergency Line at (996) to report any emergencies requiring immediate assistance or intervention. Earlier, the National Guard Command announced that the National Ambulance service executed more than 47,000 emergency missions during the first half of 2025, reinforcing its critical role in the country's emergency response and healthcare system. According to official statistics, ambulance teams responded to 47,269 emergency cases in the Northern Emirates, including traffic accidents, medical emergencies, and various injuries. Immediate care and on-site treatment were provided to over 19,400 cases, while more than 27,800 individuals were transported to hospitals for specialised medical care. The National Ambulance continues to provide its vital services 24/7 through the emergency number 998, as part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at enhancing community safety and improving the efficiency of the national emergency response system.
