Chelsea complete domestic treble with FA Cup win as Sam Kerr misses celebrations
Chelsea completed the treble of domestic trophies on Sunday, crushing holders Manchester United 3-0 in the women's FA Cup final, with Sandy Baltimore getting two goals and an assist at Wembley.
Sam Kerr, who has not played a single match for the Blues this season as she recovers from her long-term ACL injury, was not around for the celebrations.
The Matildas star was a surprise attendee at the A-League Women grand final in Melbourne, instead.
Tennis great Serena Williams, whose husband, Alexis Ohanian, has bought a stake in the team, was in the stands as Chelsea added the FA Cup to their Women's Super League and League Cup victories in what has been a remarkable unbeaten domestic season.
"Chelsea is very unique. These are the queens of global soccer and they've got the trophy case to prove it," Ohanian told the BBC in an interview.
"This will be a billion-dollar franchise one day, and I hope my dollars, my pounds, can go towards that and especially back home in America, this is going to be America's team."
Chelsea, who had already won the Women's Super League and League Cup, had a nervy start in front of 74,412 fans, but by half-time were fully in control.
"To achieve a treble in England, it's difficult to find the right words to describe that," coach Sonia Bompastor told the BBC.
"I want my players to really enjoy it. We worked hard all through the season. It was not easy and to achieve that, it will be part of history."
Bompastor took over the side this season from Emma Hayes, who was a hard act to follow after 12 years in charge and whose team also won the treble in the 2020/21 season.
United had an early flurry, exerting pressure in the first 15 minutes on Sunday and winning a series of corners.
But the London side grew into the game, and when winger Baltimore beat goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce with a penalty just before half-time, they looked full of confidence.
Norway midfielder Celin Bizet conceded the spot kick with a clumsy foul that floored Erin Cuthbert near the edge of the area.
Baltimore turned provider in the second half, whipping in a free kick for substitute Catarina Macario to head home in the 84th minute.
"It's a very emotional day," tearful American Macario told the BBC as teammates celebrated around her on the pitch.
"It's a trophy we always wanted to win. We wanted to win a treble … it's a special day to be at Wembley and to win means a lot."
Baltimore lashed home the third to settle the game in front of an ecstatic Chelsea end in the first minute of stoppage time.
Tullis-Joyce had kept United in the match with two fine first-half saves from Aggie Beever-Jones and bravely dropped to retrieve the ball from the feet of Lucy Bronze.
But United barely tested Hannah Hampton at the other end of the pitch.

Cummins can't resist sly sledge as Aussies booted from Lord's
Pat Cummins has taken a sly dig at the Poms on a bizarre day where the Aussie team was booted from Lord's just days before the World Test Championship final. The Australian captain was in fine form as he fronted TV cameras ahead of Australia's one-off Test against South Africa at the home of cricket, beginning Wednesday night. Australia's preparations hit a bump on Saturday with revelations players were forced to make a three-hour trip to find an appropriate training venue after being informed the famed Lord's ground was not available for training sessions. However, Code Sports reports the Australian camp was told the ground was not available, despite Indian players being given permission by Lord's authorities to use the venue for a training session. Watch England vs India Test Series LIVE & EXCLUSIVE on Fox Cricket, available on Kayo Sports| New to Kayo? Get your first month for just $1. Limited time offer. The Indian team was given the permission at Australia's expense, despite India's Test series against England not beginning until June 20. The two teams do not face off at Lords until July 10 — the third Test of the series. Aussie players were finally given access to the venue on Sunday. The snub didn't appear to ruffle Cummins' feathers when he spoke on Network 10's The Project on Sunday night from inside the stadium. The fast-bowler was asked about the shocking scenes of Australian players being verbally abused the most recent time the Test side played at the venue, during the fiery 2023 Ashes series. Usman Khawaja was pulled by one MCC member as the Australian team returned to the dressing room following the session of play where Alex Carey dismissed Jonny Bairstow via a run out. Cummins' response said it all. You can watch the clip in the video player above 'I think this is the best version of the stadium this morning,' he said. 'There's no one around, which is great. I'm sure it will be much more civil this time around. 'Things got pretty heated in the middle of that Ashes series, but I think a lot of them will have learned their lesson and I'm sure they'll be very polite.' One MCC member was expelled from the club and two more members of the exclusive club were handed lengthy suspensions for the verbal abuse directed at Cummins and his team. The 32-year-old said he hopes he crowd will be cheering in Australia's favour this time because of the population of Aussie ex-pats living in London. Cummins will lead the Aussie attack against South Africa, surrounded by the usual suspects of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon. Code Sports reports, Hazlewood's selection means Scott Boland will miss out. According to the report, Aussie selectors are planning to promote Marnus Labuschagne to open the batting with Usman Khawaja — meaning Sam Konstas will be dropped from the XI. Selectors have made the move in order to squeeze all-rounder Cameron Green into the batting line-up. The selection of Beau Webster will take the pressure of Green, who appears likely to plat at Lord's as a specialist batsman. Aussie coach Andrew McDonald said last month Green was even being considered as an option to open the batting with Khawaja. 'He could bat anywhere,' McDonald said of Green, not hiding his excitement at the boom batter's brilliant return from career-saving back surgery. 'He could be three, he could be five, he could be six, he could open. 'I think he's got the temperament, the skillset, the defensive play as well. The higher up you go defensive skills are a priority, and he's got all bases covered. He plays the short ball well. 'You're not going to get a negative word from the coach about Cameron Green.' Meanwhile, Cummins has enjoyed a slightly different build-up to Test duties with the popular captain spotted chin-wagging with star presenter Jeremy Clarkson. Cummins last week spent time with the former Top Gear host at his picturesque farm property in the Cotswolds, a popular English holiday destination. The 1000-acre farm property is the scene of the TV presenter's Clarkson's Farm reality TV series. Cummins has told The Herald Sun, he is a fan of the show, which shows Clarkson attempting to turn a small property into a successful farming business.

Wootton Bassett colt to attract strong early interest at Canterbury
Breeding buffs and punters alike will be in raptures before one horse has even left the stalls at Monday's holiday Canterbury meeting. Fittingly on the King's Birthday weekend, some of the most royally bred youngsters in the country step out for the first time in a two-year-old opener for the boys at set weights over 1250m. Heading the lineup is the debutant colt Central Coast for the all-conquering Chris Waller and James McDonald combination. An early favourite with bookmakers, Central Coast is beautifully bred, being by UK-reared global sprint sire Wootton Bassett, and out of dual group 1-winning mare Sunlight, who won the Newmarket Hcp and William Reid Stakes in the same season. Given two impressive trials on rain-affected ground, Central Coast looks primed for a big debut for what is a steeped and well-established group of owners. Loading He drew to get a lovely trail on what should be a gradually improving Soft 7 surface or even firmer, with the track drying out through Sunday and into Monday. But there's no shortage of impressively bred rivals, starting with Cabriole, a powerful-looking colt by superstar Lonhro from the high-class Group 1-winning mare Flit. Starting his career also behind two progressive trials, winning the latest comfortably at Warwick Farm on a Heavy 9, Cabriole was on the clear second line of early betting.
