After cabinet meet, Mohan Yadav govt issues show cause to official who ordered probe against minister
During the state cabinet meeting Tuesday, Uikey who is the minister for public health engineering and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Mandla questioned whether the official could initiate an inquiry against her, eventually leading to the show cause.
Bhopal: A day after the start of an enquiry into allegations of corruption against state minister Sampatiya Uikey, the Madhya Pradesh government Wednesday issued a show cause notice to the official who ordered the probe.
At the state cabinet briefing Tuesday, Uikey raised the issue before Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and sought to know the extent of the engineer's authority.
A state BJP leader said on condition of anonymity that Uikey also urged Yadav to act against Andhavan for initiating what she termed 'unsubstantiated' allegations. The demand was backed by a larger section of ministers present, it is learnt.
Soon after, Public Health Engineering Principal Secretary P. Narhari was issued directions to provide a clarification on the matter.
Speaking to The Print, Narhari said, 'We have issued a show cause notice to engineer-in-chief Sanjay Andhavan, seeking his explanation on ordering a probe into the complaint.'
'We receive several complaints against public representatives and public servants. The engineer-in-chief is supposed to check the facts, as well as work with authorities in his capacity, without initiating an inquiry. The engineer-in-chief is under the minister, not the other way round,' he added.
The allegations stem from a complaint Kishore Samrite, national president of Sanyukt Kranti Party, sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that ministers, officers, and contractors in Madhya Pradesh were misusing funds meant to provide tap water connections to rural households.
In his complaint, Samrite alleged that the accused had already misused Rs 1,000 crore from central funds allocated to the state. The PMO forwarded the complaint to the Madhya Pradesh chief secretary, and then, the public health engineering department.
'The response received from the engineer-in-chief on the show cause notice issued to him will decide the further course of action, whether a departmental inquiry against him will continue or not. However, any person holding his post will be well aware of the rules,' said a senior official from the MP government who did not wish to be named.

ACB files chargesheet against MLA, others in cash-for-no-query scandal
Jaipur: Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) filed a chargesheet Wednesday against Jaikrishn Patel, who represents the Bagidora constituency in Banswara district, and three others. They were arrested on May 4 in a first-of-its-kind 'cash-for-no-query' scandal in the state. ACB has kept the investigation pending against Rohitash Meena, the personal assistant of the MLA, as he is on the run since the trap in which the legislator was allegedly caught accepting a bribe of Rs 20 lakh in the parking lot of the MLA quarters near the state assembly building. ACB prosecutor Shalini Gautam said the chargesheet has retained the sections of Prevention of Corruption Act under which Patel and others were charged in the FIR filed after the trap operation. The CCTV footage, recording of the incident in which he was caught negotiating with the ACB complainant, philetrapic power, and other forensic evidence have been presented. According to ACB officials, Rohitash Meena handed over the money to his uncle, Laxman Meena alias Jaswant, who was arrested on May 5. According to the FIR, the bribe negotiations began on March 22, when Rohit Meena called the complainant to meet at Indira Gandhi Nagar. During the meeting, Meena mentioned "2.5," which the complainant initially believed meant Rs 2.5 lakh. However, Patel later clarified that the demand was actually Rs 2.5 crore. In the last week of April, the complainant paid Rs 1 lakh to Patel, which helped the ACB verify the complaint and prepare for a trap. On May 4, Patel and another accused, Vicky, reportedly discussed, inspected, and accepted Rs 20 lakh in cash from the complainant at the MLA's official residence. The money was later handed over in the parking area and concealed, a sequence that the FIR says has been prima facie established. ACB stated that Patel abused his public office to obtain illegal gratification, amounting to offences under the amended Prevention of Corruption Act and the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Gadkari launches road projects worth 4.6k crore in state
1 2 3 Ranchi/Garhwa: Union minister of road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari laid foundation stones of three road projects worth Rs 1,700 crore and inaugurated seven road projects worth Rs 4,650 crore in the state on Thursday at two separate programmes held in Ranchi and Garhwa. Stating that the Centre is already working on projects worth Rs 2 lakh crore in Jharkhand, Gadkari said plans are afoot for additional projects worth Rs 1 lakh crore in the state. In Garhwa, Gadkari laid the foundation stone for Rs 1,330 crore four-lane project measuring 32 km from Chattisgarh-Jharkhand border to Gumla on NH-43. That apart, he inaugurated the Rs 1,130 crore four-lane Garhwa bypass road measuring 22.73 km on NH-75 under the Ranchi-Varanasi economic corridor. With the construction of the by-pass road from to Khajuri village (Garhwa district), the residents heaved a sigh of relief. The by-pass from Shankha village (Palamu district) to Khajuri village (Garhwa district) links about two dozen villages in Palamu and Garhwa. He also sanctioned Garhwa-Ambikapur four-lane road and few other projects worth around Rs 2,460 crore in Garhwa district. In Ranchi, too, he gave his approval to outer ring road project and widening of Ranchi-Muri Road. Hence, we must continue to get those funds to address the challenges in this region," he said, adding that these regions are rain shadow area and needs special assistance to stop migration and further development projects. Gadkari advised the minister to get an official order passed from the govt and he will help in building over 1,000 ponds through NHAI free of cost like he did in Vidharbha (Maharashtra) to tide over water crisis in farm dominated areas.
