Karnataka Issues Draft Notification To Cap Movie Ticket Prices At Rs 200

The Karnataka government on Tuesday issued a draft notification proposing amendments to the Karnataka Cinemas (Regulation) Rules, 2014, introducing a cap on cinema ticket prices across the state.
The draft rules set a maximum ticket price of Rs 200 per show, inclusive of entertainment tax, for all films and theatres regardless of whether they are multiplexes or not, regardless of the film's language.
The proposal comes under the Karnataka Cinemas (Regulation) (Amendment) Rules, 2025, and was released by the Home Department in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 19 of the Karnataka Cinemas (Regulation) Act, 1964.
As per procedure, the draft is being published for public input, and any objections or suggestions are invited within fifteen days from the date of publication in the Official Gazette.
"In rule 55, in sub-rule (6), the following proviso shall be inserted... 'Provided that the cost of the ticket of each show in all theatres of the state, including multiplexes, for all language films shall not exceed Rs . 200 inclusive of entertainment tax," the draft notification read.
Additionally, the proposed amendment includes the omission of Rule 146 from the existing 2014 rules. "In the said rules, rule 146 and the entries relating thereto shall be omitted," it said.

The international cume of the reboot movie is around USD 115 million. It now stands at USD 270 million at the worldwide box office. Although the movie is performing well in the US, its performance in India has remained decent so far. For the unversed, the James Gunn film has collected around Rs 30 crore in its 6-day theatrical run. It's expected to gross around Rs 60 crore net at the Indian box office. Bollywood actor Salman Khan has sold an apartment in Mumbai for Rs 5.35 crore, according to property registration documents reviewed by Square Yards. The apartment is located in Shiv Asthan Heights in one of Mumbai's most prime residential areas, Bandra West. Salman also resides in the same area in the building called Galaxy Apartments. As per the report, the transaction includes a stamp duty payment of Rs 32.01 lakh and registration charges of Rs 30,000. The apartment, which has a built-up area of over 1,318 sq ft, also comes with three parking spaces. According to Storyboard18, in 2023, Salman Khan had rented out the same apartment on a 36-month lease. The rent began at Rs 1.5 lakh per month in the first year. As per the contract, it increased to Rs 1.57 lakh in the second year and Rs 1.65 lakh in the third. In total Salman earned Rs 56.64 lakh in three years from this deal. Salman is the owner of multiple luxurious properties in Mumbai. According to Propstack, in 2024, the Dabangg actor leased out a commercial space in Santacruz to Landcraft Retail Pvt Ltd. The property spans a built-up area of 23,042 sq ft, and the actor earns a whopping Rs 90 lakh in monthly rent from the deal. As per reports, it was one of the biggest rental transactions in Mumbai's commercial property market. By renting out this property, Salman earns an annual rent of approximately Rs 12 crore. The deal also included a hefty security deposit of Rs 5.4 crore. Salman lives with his family in Galaxy Apartments in Mumbai's Bandra. Last year, two men opened fire outside his residence.
