Police seize 200 kg of ganja worth Rs 15 lakh in Vijayawada
Acting on a tip-off, Krishna Lanka SI Bhanu Prasad and his team, along with the Vijayawada EAGLE unit, conducted checks near Geethanagar Katta. Police first stopped a Swift Dzire and discovered bags of ganja, taking the driver into custody. Meanwhile, the driver of a Tata goods vehicle approaching the same checkpoint attempted to flee but was also apprehended.
The Commissioner said prime accused Nagaraju, originally from Madurai, had settled in Thagarapuvalasa. Learning of the high demand for ganja in Chennai, he began sourcing it from nearby agency areas at low prices and smuggling it to Tamil Nadu.
Despite two prior arrests and jail time, Nagaraju resumed smuggling after his release. In this attempt, they loaded 100 kg of ganja in Nagaraju's car and another 100 kg in a mini goods vehicle, both heading towards Chennai. Police arrested both accused under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and seized the two vehicles used in the operation. Further investigation is ongoing.

Hyderabad: Man loses over Rs 12.75 lakh in house rental cyber fraud
Agency: Hyderabad, Aug 20 (PTI) A 28-year-old resident of Banjara Hills lost more than Rs 12.75 lakh after falling victim to a house rental fraud, in which cybercriminals allegedly posed as National Security Guard personnel, police said on Wednesday. The victim had posted an advertisement for his flat on a real estate portal on August 13 and was contacted the same day by a man claiming to be an NSG commando from West Bengal, stating he was being transferred to Hyderabad. To appear genuine, the fraudster shared fake identification documents and expressed interest in renting the flat, according to a release from Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police. Later, another man, posing as the commando's senior officer, promised to pay an advance rent of Rs 80,000. Citing a 'special security protocol" reportedly introduced after the Pulwama terror attack, the fraudsters convinced the victim to make multiple Immediate Payment Service (IMPS) and UPI transfers, claiming it was necessary to 'raise a demand" for releasing the advance payment. Trusting 'the assurances", the victim made multiple transactions, losing Rs 12,75,711 before realising it was a scam. He immediately reported the incident to the National Cyber Crime Helpline (1930). A case has been registered. They gain victims' trust by sending forged ID cards or service documents and claiming transfers to new cities. Using the pretext of 'special defence security protocols," they instruct victims to make IMPS or UPI transfers, promising the amount will be refunded along with advance rent. In reality, these are fraudulent transactions, resulting in losses of lakhs of rupees, the release added. No fuel for motorists without helmets in JSR
1 2 Jamshedpur: The East Singhbhum district administration on Wednesday reinforced its 'no helmet no fuel, no seat belt no fuel' norm as part of its move to curb road accidents by effective implementation of traffic safety rules. For one week, officials will run awareness campaigns among motorists about the need to use helmets or seat belts while driving bikes and cars. Crackdown will begin thereafter, said officials. "We have asked the petrol bunk owners to install CCTVs at their respective premises so that the video footage of any motorist who comes violating the safety norms is recorded, and penal action will be taken accordingly," DSP (Traffic) Sriniraj Kumar said. Enforcement officials, including transport and traffic officials, held a meeting with pump owners on Tuesday wherein nitty-gritty of the exercise was discussed in detail. Pump owners were told to put up banners, posters, signages, and stickers at fuel stations so that motorists coming to the station became aware of the norm. Traffic police data showed 21 people were killed and 17 were injured in 46 road accidents which occurred between June and July this year. The police collected Rs 41 lakh in penalties from motorists for violating traffic rules, including not wearing a helmet and not putting on a seat belt, during this period. Abandoned luxury car with Rs 46.19L seized in Panki
1 2 Daltonganj: An abandoned luxury car with around Rs 46.19 lakh cash was confiscated by Panki police on Wednesday. Lesliganj SDPO Manoj Kumar Jha said, "The car, bearing a Chhattisgarh registration number, was found abandoned and parked near Tetrai Belyari More.
