Madhavan backs Maharashtra's creator economy push with FTII collaboration
He was speaking at an event where a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Maharashtra Film, Stage & Cultural Development Corporation (MFSCDC) and the Pune-based Film and Television Institute of India (FTII).
The MoU, facilitated by the state's cultural affairs department, aims to provide quality training and certification in creative and technical skills related to film, television and digital content creation.
"This is not just a partnership but the beginning of a movement. Maharashtra will soon emerge as the epicentre of the creator economy, not only for India but for the world," Fadnavis said.
He said with the rapid monetisation of creative content by individuals using digital platforms, the need for certified training is more critical than ever.
The CM cited the fast-growing creator economy, which expanded from Rs 92,000 crore to Rs 1 lakh crore in just 100 days.

"Today, even a common person can be a creator. But despite having talent, many lack certification, which limits their professional opportunities. This collaboration will bridge that gap," Fadnavis said.
Welcoming the MoU, cultural affairs minister
Ashish
Shelar said it would decentralise FTII's reach, allowing students from rural and semi-urban Maharashtra to access training at the state level.
He said four centres, at Goregaon in Mumbai, Kolhapur, Prabhadevi, and Karjat, will serve as hubs, promoting local talent and opening new employment opportunities within the entertainment sector.
FTII chairperson and actor R Madhavan highlighted the emergence of talented creators from smaller towns and said India's cultural narratives deserve global attention.
"While Western cinema has its superheroes like Superman and Batman, it is time the world recognised Hanuman and Krishna. India's soft power lies in its storytelling," Madhavan asserted.
The MoU was formally exchanged between Swati Mhase-Patil, Managing Director of Film City, and
Dheeraj Singh
, Registrar of FTII, in the presence of senior officials from the cultural affairs department.
The MFSCDC is an undertaking of the Maharashtra government and is associated with a wide gamut of initiatives in the sector, including helming the renowned Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari in Goregaon, popularly known as Film City.
The FTII is a institute under the Union ministry of information and broadcasting

Ahaan Panday is enjoying the success of his debut film, Saiyaara, and is celebrating with his family at an undisclosed location. While neither Ahaan nor his co-star Aneet Padda has been permitted to make public appearances or post about the success of the film in order to maintain an air of mystery around it, his sister Alanna recently took to social media to post pictures of him and her son, baby River, wearing a onesie and cheering Ahaan on. Saiyaara box office collection day 14: Ahaan Panday's blockbuster beats Kabir Singh, earns Rs 425 crore worldwide
Saiyaara box office collection day 14: The Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda-starrer Saiyaara has been playing in theatres for two weeks now, and its outstanding performance at the box office has been quite surprising for Bollywood trade pundits. Saiyaara has made Rs 280.5 crore in India, as per trade tracker Sacnilk. Saiyaara continues to be the second-highest Hindi grosser of 2025, after Vicky Kaushal-starrer Chhaava, which made around Rs 600 crore at the box office. The third spot is occupied by Ajay Devgn's Raid 2, which ended its theatrical run at Rs 173 crore. On its 14th day in theaters, Saiyaara made Rs 6.5 crore, which marks its slowest day at the box office yet. The footfalls may have dropped during the weekdays but it remains to be seen if the film will have its hold on the audience for its third weekend. On Thursday, however, the film saw an overall occupancy of 11 percent. In the Delhi-NCR region, the film had over 1100 shows with an occupancy of around 12 percent and in the Mumbai region, the film had over 750 shows with an occupancy of over 10.5 percent. After the 14th day, the film's worldwide collection stands at Rs 425 crore. The 2019 film, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, made Rs 279 crore at the time of its release, and was severely criticised for presenting a toxic love story in a romanticised manner. Saiyaara has also taken over the Salman Khan-starrer Tiger 3, which was released in 2023. YRF decided to release Tiger 3 on a Sunday, which turned out to be a bad idea. This weekend, Saiyaara will face two competitors at the box office, in Dhadak 2 and Son of Sardaar 2. Dhadak 2, starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, has been produced by Dharma Productions, and appears to be a tragic love story. Ajay Devgn-starrer Son of Sardaar 2 is a comedy film which is a sequel to his 2012 film. Son of Sardaar 2 was previously scheduled to release on July 25 but the makers postponed the release to avoid being swept under the Saiyaara wave.
