Severance is very much in(nie) with the Television Critics Association. The Apple TV+ drama topped Wednesday's 41st TCA Awards nominations with five bids. Its nominations haul includes Program of the Year, drama series, and triple bids in Individual Achievement in Drama for Adam Scott, Britt Lower, and Tramell Tillman.Four shows are tied with four nominations apiece: Adolescence, Hacks, The Pitt, and The Studio. All four plus Severance will compete in Program of the Year alongside Andor, The Rehearsal, and The White Lotus.Last year, TCA dropped down to six slots per category after expanding to eight in 2021, but it has now reverted to eight. No reason was given for last year's or this year's change. There was also unprecedented double-dipping last year by three shows — Baby Reindeer, Ripley, and Fargo — which were nominated in both drama and limited. There is no such case this year.In drama series, Severance faces Andor, Anne Rice's Interview With the Vampire, Industry, The Last of Us, Matlock, The Pitt, and The White Lotus. After scoring five bids for its first season in 2023, The Last of Us only nabbed one nomination for its sophomore installment.Individual Achievement in Drama has nine nominees. Scott, Lower, and Tillman will duke it out against Jacob Anderson (Interview With the Vampire), Kathy Bates (Matlock), Owen Cooper (Adolescence), Stephen Graham (Adolescence), Diego Luna (Andor), and Noah Wyle (The Pitt). There are only two women in the lineup, which stacks the odds against the category to crown its 10th consecutive female winner. Last year, Anna Sawai (Shōgun) prevailed. The last male champ was Jon Hamm (Mad Men) in 2015.Severance is the fourth show to earn three Individual Achievement in Drama nominations in the same year after The Practice in 1999, The West Wing in 2000, and Succession in 2023. The Practice's and The West Wing's triple plays are arguably more impressive as they occurred in fields of five (Succession's was also in a field of nine). Of these, only The Practice notched a win, for David E. Kelley in a tie with James Gandolfini (The Sopranos). Gandolfini also triumphed in 2000. Rhea Seehorn (Better Call Saul) won in 2023, becoming the first supporting player to win the category. In comedy, Hacks will go for back-to-back series victories against 2022 winner Abbott Elementary, English Teacher, Nobody Wants This, The Rehearsal, Shrinking, Somebody Somewhere, The Studio, and What We Do in the Shadows.Like its drama counterpart, Individual Achievement in Comedy also has nine nominees. Jean Smart (Hacks) will aim for a record third win in the category. For the first time, her co-star Hannah Einbinder is nominated alongside her. The other nominees are Liza Colón-Zayas (The Bear), Bridget Everett (Somebody Somewhere), Nathan Fielder (The Rehearsal), Harrison Ford (Shrinking), Janelle James (Abbott Elementary), Seth Rogen (The Studio), and Michelle Williams (Dying for Sex).Williams could make TCA Awards history as the first person to win both individual achievement categories. She took home the drama honor in 2019 for her eventual Emmy-winning turn on Fosse/Verdon.The Bear, which received five and four nominations, respectively, the past two years, only received the sole bid for Colón-Zayas.The limited series/TV movie/specials race features Adolescence, Agatha All Along, Disclaimer, Dying for Sex, The Penguin, Rebel Ridge, Say Nothing, and Sirens.A new rule this year stipulates that only ongoing shows are eligible for the new program category. The nominees are Common Side Effects, English Teacher, Matlock, Nobody Wants This, North of North, Paradise, The Pitt, and The Studio.Winners and recipients of the Career Achievement and Heritage Awards will be announced later this summer. There is no in-person ceremony for the fifth time in six years as TCA's summer press tour was canceled.See the full list of nominees below.Program of the YearAdolescence — NetflixAndor — Disney+Hacks — HBO MaxThe Pitt — HBO MaxThe Rehearsal — HBOSeverance — Apple TV+The Studio — Apple TV+The White Lotus — HBOOutstanding Achievement in ComedyAbbott Elementary — ABC (2022 winner)English Teacher — FX Hacks — HBO Max (2024 winner)Nobody Wants This — NetflixThe Rehearsal — HBOShrinking — Apple TV+Somebody Somewhere — HBOThe Studio — Apple TV+What We Do in the Shadows — FXOutstanding Achievement in DramaAndor — Disney+Anne Rice's Interview With the Vampire — AMCIndustry — HBO The Last of Us — HBOMatlock — CBSThe Pitt — HBO MaxSeverance — Apple TV+The White Lotus — HBO Outstanding Achievement in Movies, Miniseries or SpecialsAdolescence — NetflixAgatha All Along — Disney+Disclaimer — Apple TV+Dying for Sex— FXThe Penguin — HBO Rebel Ridge — NetflixSay Nothing — FXSirens — NetflixOutstanding New ProgramCommon Side Effects — Adult SwimEnglish Teacher — FX Matlock — CBSNobody Wants This — NetflixNorth of North — NetflixParadise — HuluThe Pitt — HBO MaxThe Studio — Apple TV+Individual Achievement in DramaJacob Anderson, Anne Rice's Interview With the Vampire — AMCKathy Bates, Matlock — CBSOwen Cooper, Adolescence — NetflixStephen Graham, Adolescence — NetflixBritt Lower, Severance — Apple TV+Diego Luna, Andor — Disney+Adam Scott, Severance — Apple TV+ Tramell Tillman, Severance — Apple TV+Noah Wyle, The Pitt — HBO MaxIndividual Achievement in ComedyLiza Colón-Zayas, The Bear — FXHannah Einbinder, Hacks — HBO MaxBridget Everett, Somebody Somewhere — HBO Nathan Fielder, The Rehearsal — HBO Harrison Ford, Shrinking — Apple TV+Janelle James, Abbott Elementary — ABC Seth Rogen, The Studio — Apple TV+Jean Smart, Hacks — HBO Max (2021 and 2024 winner)Michelle Williams, Dying for Sex — FXOutstanding Achievement in News and Information60 Minutes — CBS (2012 winner)The Americas — NBCBad Influence: The Dark Side of Kidfluencing — Netflix Frontline — PBS (Eight-time winner in category)Leonardo da Vinci — PBSPBS NewsHour — PBSPee-wee as Himself — HBO We Will Dance Again — Paramount+Outstanding Achievement in Variety, Talk or SketchThe Daily Show — Comedy Central Everybody's Live with John Mulaney – Netflix Hot Ones — YouTubeJimmy Kimmel Live! — ABCLate Night with Seth Meyers — NBCThe Late Show with Stephen Colbert — CBSLast Week Tonight with John Oliver — HBO (2018, 2019 and 2021 winner)Saturday Night Live — NBCSNL50: The Anniversary Special — NBCOutstanding Achievement in RealityThe Amazing Race — CBS (2011 and 2022 winner)The Boyfriend — NetflixConan O'Brien Must Go — HBO MaxCouples Therapy — Showtime (2021 winner)Culinary Class Wars — NetflixRuPaul's Drag Race — MTV (2014 winner)Survivor — CBSTop Chef — BravoThe Traitors — Peacock (2024 winner)Outstanding Achievement in Family ProgrammingDoctor Who — Disney+ (2024 winner)Forever — NetflixHeartstopper — NetflixJentry Chau vs. the Underworld — NetflixStar Trek: Prodigy — NetflixWizards Beyond Waverly Place — Disney ChannelWondLa — Apple TV+XO, Kitty — NetflixYour Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man — Disney+Outstanding Achievement in Children's ProgrammingBluey Minisodes — Disney+ Carl the Collector — PBS Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood — PBS (2016 winner in youth category)Donkey Hodie — PBS Odd Squad — PBS Sesame Street — HBO (2001, 2011 and 2018 winner in youth category)Win or Lose — Disney+Wonder Pets in the City — Apple TV+ More from Gold Derby 'Ne Zha 2,' explained: How it became the biggest animated film ever and is recruiting Oscar talent for the U.S. release Everything to know about 'Too Much,' Lena Dunham's Netflix TV show starring Megan Stalter that's kinda, sorta 'based on a true story' Best of Gold Derby Everything to know about 'Too Much,' Lena Dunham's Netflix TV show starring Megan Stalter that's kinda, sorta 'based on a true story' Cristin Milioti, Amanda Seyfried, Michelle Williams, and the best of our Emmy Limited Series/Movie Actress interviews Paul Giamatti, Stephen Graham, Cooper Koch, and the best of our Emmy Limited Series/Movie Actor interviews Click here to read the full article.
