R&B Min directs officials to speed up works for LB Nagar traffic corridor
On Sunday, the Minister conducted a field inspection at the Vanasthalipuram Junction, a partof the proposed LB Nagar traffic corridor. The project, aimed at easing traffic congestion, is being planned at an estimated length of 6 km.Accompanied by NHAI officials, R&B engineers, LB Nagar MLA Devireddy Sudheer Reddy, corporators and local representatives, the Minister reviewed detailed proposals and designs.
Venkat Reddy announced that the long-pending elevated corridor being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 650 crore will be executed on priority. The project, running via the ORR, will connect key city and suburban nodes. A meeting with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari is scheduled for August 6 to push for final clearances.
Speaking to the media, he disclosed that the State was gearing up to build a greenfield highway connecting Hyderabad and Vijayawada, cutting down travel time to two hours. 'Even air travel between the two cities takes nearly five hours. This new road will be faster, safer, and more efficient,' he noted.
The Minister also confirmed progress on the Gaurelli–Valigonda–Bhadrachalamgreenfield highway, valued at Rs 2,300 crore. Construction between Valigonda and Thorrur is complete, and the process for calling tenders for the Thorrur–Bhadrachalam stretch is underway.
Regarding Metro expansion, he said CM Revanth Reddy had entrusted him with the responsibility of securing approvals for Phase 2. 'The Congress government is determined to build a world-class Metro. Like Phase 1 was achieved under Jaipal Reddy's leadership, we will now ensure Phase 2 becomes a reality,' he added.
The Minister took sharp digs at the previous BRS government, questioning why the Uppal–Narapally flyover was left incomplete. 'They kept making tall claims but failed on the ground,' he remarked.
The Minister reiterated the Congress government's commitment to welfare and inclusive development. 'We are clearing long-pending ration card applications, resuming Indiramma housing, and supplying subsidized rice. Every eligible family will receive Rs 5 lakh for home construction,' he said.
On BC reservations, Venkat Reddy criticized BRS leader Kavitha's recent statements. 'Why didn't she speak for BCs during the last 10 years? Suddenly after losing power, they remember social justice?' he questioned. The Minister stated that the State Assembly hadpassed a resolution on BC reservations, and the Congress party would continue to pressure the Centre to act swiftly.

Earlier on Wednesday, RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra stated that UPI might not be free forever. Eventually, someone is going to have to cover the cost of employing the digital payments system. While speaking at the post-Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) press conference, Malhotra stated, 'I never said that UPI can stay free forever. What I said was there are costs (associated with UPI transactions), and they need to be paid for by someone,' reported Economics Times. 'Who pays is important but not so important than someone footing the bill. So, it is important for us for the sustainability of the model, that whether collectively or individually someone pays,' said Malhotra. His comments have led to worries that the free UPI services people are using today won't be free for long. There is now speculation that either banks or the government could charge a fee for UPI transactions to help fund the costs of the service. India has emerged as the global leader in fast payments, according to a recent note by the International Monetary Fund titled Growing Retail Digital Payments: The Value of Interoperability. At the heart of this transformation is the Unified Payments Interface, better known as UPI. UPI is responsible for close to 85% of all digital transactions in India. The UPI handles over 60% of digital transactions worldwide. In June 2025, UPI logged 18.39 billion transactions at the value of Rs 24 lakh crores, which is a 32% increase from last year. Launched in 2016 by the National Payments Corporation of India, UPI has changed how people send and receive money in the country. It brings all your bank accounts together in one mobile app. One can transfer money instantly, pay merchants, or send funds to friends with just a few taps. Its appeal lies in its speed and ease of use. In June alone, it handled over Rs 24.03 lakh crore in payments. This was spread across 18.39 billion transactions. Compared to the same month last year, when there were 13.88 billion transactions, the growth is clear. There is an increase of about 32 per cent in just one year. The UPI system now serves 491 million individuals and 65 million merchants. It connects 675 banks on a single platform, allowing people to make payments easily without worrying about which bank they use. Today, UPI accounts for 85 per cent of all digital transactions in India. Its impact goes beyond national borders, powering nearly 50 per cent of global real-time digital payments.' As stated in a report by ET Wealth Online, ICICI Bank has reportedly become the first bank to formally establish processing fees regarding the Payment Aggregators (PAs) which deal with UPI payment transactions. Starting August 1, 2025, all UPI transactions will incur a charge.

‘Abysmal failure of Modi': Opposition criticises Centre as Trump doubles tariffs on India

The additional levy will take effect in 21 days. 'We reiterate that these actions are unfair, unjustified and unreasonable,' said the Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson. Bandi Sanjay accuses Congress of betraying BCs with ‘Muslim Declaration' agenda
Hyderabad / New Delhi: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar launched a blistering attack on the Congress party over its protest at Jantar Mantar, alleging that the dharna was not for Backward Classes (BCs) but a covert push for Muslim reservations. He claimed the Congress had abandoned its Kamareddy Declaration and was now pursuing what he termed the 'Mumtiki Muslim Declaration.' Addressing the media on Wednesday in the national capital, Bandi Sanjay accused Congress of conspiring to allocate only 5% reservations to BCs while diverting an additional 10% to Muslims under the guise of the BC Bill. 'This is not a BC Declaration—it's a Muslim Declaration. Congress is cheating BCs and trying to implement 100% Muslim reservations,' he said. He asserted that the Congress dharna lacked genuine support from BC communities and warned that the BJP would only support the bill if it ensured 42% reservations exclusively for BCs. 'Otherwise, we will block it. Ambedkar opposed religious reservations, and so do we,' he declared. Bandi Sanjay challenged Congress to a public debate on its historical treatment of BCs, questioning whether any BC had ever been made Prime Minister or Chief Minister during its decades-long rule. 'In 50 years of Congress rule, not a single BC was made PM. In 48 years of united Andhra Pradesh, not one BC was made CM,' he said, listing a series of upper-caste leaders who held the post. He contrasted this with the BJP's record, highlighting that the party had made a BC the Prime Minister three times, appointed 27 BCs as Union Ministers, and elevated BC leaders to Chief Ministerial positions across states. 'We've also given the highest constitutional posts to Dalits, tribals, and minorities,' he added. Bandi Sanjay accused Congress of trying to make Hindus a minority in Telangana through religious-based reservations and warned of national consequences. 'If this poisonous tree isn't uprooted in Telangana, it will spread across the country,' he said. He also criticized the Congress for failing to provide adequate representation to BCs in the Revanth Reddy cabinet, nominated posts, and Lok Sabha tickets. 'Congress is shedding crocodile tears for BCs. The weaker sections will soon rise and raze the party to the ground, as they did in UP, Bengal, Bihar, and Tamil Nadu,' he concluded.
