Haidilao Teases Possible Collab With C-pop Group WayV; Will They Be Coming To Malaysia?

Hype Malaysia5 days ago
Haidilao Malaysia recently announced a collaboration with GOT7 member Jackson Wang in support of his new album, 'MAGIC MAN 2'. The partnership features rotating merchandise, from collectable photocards to plush pillows, offered as part of a special set meal curated by the superstar himself.
However, it seems the popular hotpot chain has no plans to slow down, as they are now preparing for an upcoming collaboration with a C-pop idol group, which also happens to be a sub-unit of K-pop boyband NCT. Here's what we know so far about the partnership:
On Tuesday (22nd July), the brand shared a teaser featuring the silhouettes of a five-member boy group. 'A major collaboration is about to be revealed! 🔥 With a blazing rhythm, a special encounter is heading your way 🎼 Get ready to share a vibrant summer with them — only at Haidilao! ✨,' the company wrote on social media.
As expected, fans flocked to the comments section to submit their guesses on who the mystery artists might be. The majority, however, had one group in mind: WayV (威神V/웨이션브이). As with previous instances, this speculation arose after fans recognised the members' silhouettes, which matched a pose from one of the group's promotional photos for their single 'BIG BANDS'. So, does this mean the idols will be coming to Malaysia soon?
Fans have expressed their excitement, with many hoping that WayV might make a special appearance. However, while the anticipation is high, there has been no official indication that the group will be visiting Malaysia for an event. It remains unclear whether this collaboration will follow the same format as Haidilao's current partnership with Jackson Wang.
Still, that hasn't stopped fans from urging the hotpot brand to organise an event that would give them the chance to see the Chinese stars in person. Perhaps, with enough demand, more exciting news could be on the horizon. For now, however, we'll just have to wait for the official announcement. What do you think the collaboration could be?

Fan Bingbing Reportedly Returning To Melaka In August To Receive Datuk Wira Title

While Fan Bingbing's (范冰冰) appointment as Tourism Ambassador for Melaka received mixed reactions, it has brought improvement to the state's tourism. However, rumour has it that the Chinese actress may receive a state honour for her contribution. Last year, the actress was appointed Tourism Ambassador for Melaka, a move that received mixed reactions. Despite the comments, Fan Bingbing's ambassadorship saw a growth in the number of Chinese tourists visiting the historical state. The star was even recognised in the Malaysian Book of Records for 'Largest Digital Hits for Malaysian Tourism on WeChat Platform Using Celebrity Ambassador'. In celebration of her contribution, the state of Melaka is reportedly honouring the star with the highest state honour. According to China Press, Fan Bingbing may be honoured with a Datuk Wira title during the Governor of Melaka's birthday on 24th August 2025 (Sunday). As such, the actress will be returning to the state to receive the honour and fulfil her duties as Tourism Ambassador. Fan Bingbing is currently in Kuala Lumpur to film for an upcoming project. Fan Bingbing's tenure as Melaka's Tourism Ambassador may also be extended, given her contributions to the state so far. Since the state will be hosting the World Tourism Day (WTD) 2025 and the World Tourism Conference (WTC) 2025 from 27th to 29th September 2025 (Saturday to Monday), it's believed the actress will continue her role in light of these events. According to reports, in the year Fan Bingbing was appointed Tourism Ambassador for Melaka, the number of Chinese tourists in the state increased significantly from 204,818 to 664,687. The increase in tourism also helped boost consumption in hotels, restaurants and attractions, making the 44-year-old a significant contributor to helping Melaka's tourism industry recover. The rumours of Fan Bingbing receiving the Datuk Wira honour remain unconfirmed, but what are your thoughts on this? Source: China Press

(Video) Colgate Malaysia Teases Collaboration With K-pop Icon IU; Is She Coming To KL?

These brands do love to tease fans when it comes to collaborations with Korean stars – not that we're complaining, of course. Recently, several companies have been teasing their partnerships with idol groups and actors ahead of official announcements to build excitement. These promotions are clearly doing the trick, as fans are almost always able to guess the mystery collaborators based on nothing more than a silhouette. And now, it seems one singer could be making her way to Malaysia very soon. Who is she? Let's find out. Over the weekend, oral hygiene brand Colgate Malaysia posted a video on social media teasing a future collaboration with a K-pop icon. The clip featured a female singer dressed in purple, posing for the cameras with her face obscured, revealing only her smile. 'The queen of K-pop is about to spill her secret beauty hack for a radiant smile 😁✨ Any guesses? Coming your way soon. Stay tuned!' the brand wrote in the captions. If the smile wasn't already a clear giveaway, the hint 'Queen of K-pop' certainly is, as there's only one person known by that title. As expected, fans flocked to the comments section to share their guesses, but the majority had one name in mind: none other than IU (아이유). Not only is she celebrated as a gifted singer-songwriter, but she's also an accomplished actress, having recently won Best Actress at the Blue Dragon Series Awards and Baeksang Arts Awards for her role in 'When Life Gives You Tangerines'. While Colgate Malaysia's teaser is certainly exciting, there has been no confirmation or indication, at the time of writing, that IU will be making a special appearance in Malaysia. Still, that hasn't stopped fans from urging the brand to invite the icon back to Malaysia for an event. The last time IU was here, she performed at Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil back in 2024 and even handed out snacks to fans upon her arrival at KLIA. We personally would love to see IU again, but for now, we'll have to wait for the official announcements for more details about this collaboration. Watch the teaser below: Source: Instagram

Sterling performance by Kian Kok students

Published on: Monday, July 28, 2025 Published on: Mon, Jul 28, 2025 Text Size: The performers and guests. Kota Kinabalu: A one-hour blackout and brief mid-performance disruption did not dampen the spirits of performers at Kian Kok Middle School's annual Cultural Night, Saturday. The event themed 'Joy at Kian Kok' featured musical, dance and multicultural acts. Attendees, including parents and special guests, witnessed the resilience of students and staff as they adapted to the unexpected technical challenge. In his opening speech, Board Chairman Datuk Clement Yeh praised the students' initiative, emphasising that the event was more than just entertainment, it was a platform for growth. 'At Kian Kok, education goes beyond grades. It is about nurturing passion, character and creativity. Tonight, our students did not just perform, they proved their ability to adapt and excel under pressure,' he said. Clement pointed out the school's commitment to well-rounded development as reflected by recent achievements, including its brass band winning gold at a national competition and its Chinese orchestra preparing for a 2026 cultural exchange in Taiwan. Guest of Honour David Lam, who is Honorary Advisor to the Board, lauded the performances as a profound life lesson in passion and perseverance. 'Kian Kok is not just producing top scorers but about cultivating dreamers. On this stage, students found their voices and the courage to chase their futures,' he said. The power outage became an unplanned highlight, with students and staff working to keep spirits high. Their composure left an impression on parents and guests, who described the night as a journey of hope and resilience. As the curtain fell, the thunderous applause echoed the school's mission to empower every child to shine in their own unique light. 'Education is not just about exams. It is about being seen, heard and believed in. Tonight, we did not just witness talent, we saw the power of unwavering belief in every student's potential,' said David. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
