Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill vows to show ‘the best version' of himself this season
The Dolphins star receiver doesn't feel that way anymore. He
regrets
making those comments. And he said among his goals this season is to reveal a version of himself — a more subdued, mature one — that he hasn't shown yet in his career.
'I literally heard that all offseason some kind of way on YouTube shorts because my kids stay on YouTube.' Hill said Tuesday as Dolphins veterans reported to training camp. 'And I'm like, 'I don't want to put that out there for my boys to see.'
Hill has made headlines — good and bad — throughout his career. Last season's outburst that included taking himself out in the second half of Miami's regular-season finale against the New York Jets was an example of antics the All-Pro receiver said can't continue to happen.
He has since had talks with teammates and coach Mike McDaniel on how to be more of a leader moving forward, especially as he hopes to help the Dolphins deliver the playoff win that has eluded them for more than two decades.
'That's why this year, this whole entire offseason, I've been busting my tail,' Hill said. 'I told my dad, I said, 'I want to see what it looks like whenever I focus just on football, and I just focus on myself and family. Because I feel like I really haven't been giving the best version of me, of Tyreek, my whole entire career. ... I just want to see what that version of myself looks like. I'm looking forward to it.'
Hill is coming off one of his worst seasons as a pro in 2024. He finished with 81 catches for 959 yards and six touchdowns — his fewest receptions and yards since an injury-filled 2019 season when he played for Kansas City, and a steep drop-off from his NFL-leading 2023 season in which he caught 119 passes for 1,799 yards and 13 touchdowns.
He said he's finding motivation for the upcoming season in a few places, such as family.
'My kids are Justin Jefferson fanatics,' Hill quipped. 'They really enjoy Justin Jefferson a lot. I was talking to my son on FaceTime last night, and his mom told me 'One of the kids came up to him and was like, 'You're Tyreek Hill's son?'' And he was like, 'No, Justin Jefferson's my dad.''
'We play jokes with each other,' Hill added, 'so I know it's in the spirit of just playing jokes and just having fun. That's what keeps me hungry, man. Just trying to continue to stay at the top, continuing to be a leader in my household for my kids.'
Hill has spent the offseason recovering from the wrist injury that limited him in 2024 and becoming more lean. His offseason training also included winning a 100-meter race in 10.15 seconds last month in California — a sign that he still possesses all of his trademark speed as he enters his 10th NFL season.
'Today was our conditioning test,' Hill said, 'and at 31 years old, I must say, I haven't lost a step.'

Mike Yastrzemski homers in his first at bat with Royals after they acquired him at trade deadline
TORONTO (AP) — Mike Yastrzemski made quite the early impression on his new teammates by homering in his first plate appearance with the Kansas City Royals on Friday, a day after they acquired him from the San Francisco Giants. Rays place All-Star first baseman Jonathan Aranda on injured list with a fractured left wrist
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — The Tampa Bay Rays placed All-Star first baseman Jonathan Aranda on the 10-day injured list Friday with a fractured left wrist. Aranda was injured Thursday in a collision with New York Yankees designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton. Aranda said the injury did not feel 'catastrophic' and he's hopeful he'll return this season, although the Rays cautioned he won't be able to use the wrist for approximately three weeks. Aranda's wrist has been immobilized in an air cast and he's scheduled to undergo more imaging at the three-week mark. At that point, the Rays will reassess his return timetable. 'Let's see how the bone heals," manager Kevin Cash said before Friday night's series opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers. "I think he has re-imaging in about three weeks, but we will continue to remain optimistic.' Stanton hit a soft grounder in the fifth inning to third baseman Junior Caminero, who charged in on wet grass to field the ball. Aranda reached for Caminero's wide toss that sailed into the runner, and his left wrist appeared to hit Stanton's left shoulder. Aranda, a first-time All-Star, is batting .316 with 12 home runs, 54 RBIs in 103 games this season. He has a .394 on-base percentage, and an .872 OPS, making him one of the majors' most dangerous hitters. The Rays reinstated Ha-Seong Kim from the IL and recalled Tristan Gray from Triple-A Durham. Trade deadline acquisitions Griffin Jax and Hunter Feduccia were active for Friday night's game. ___

Newcomers Helsley, Rogers and Mullins join Mets in the thick of a pennant race
NEW YORK (AP) — Pitchers Ryan Helsley and Tyler Rogers and outfielder Cedric Mullins jumped into a pennant race Friday when they joined the National League-East leading New York Mets in search of the franchise's first championship since 1986. 'Everybody's very excited — they're matching my excitement to be here,' Rogers said before the Mets opened a three-game series against San Francisco. The Giants traded Rogers to New York for José Buttó and a pair of prospects Wednesday. The Mets, who fell to the eventual World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers in last year's NLCS, entered Friday with a half-game lead over the Philadelphia Phillies. 'From looking across the dugout a week ago, this is a team where you're like, man, this team is the complete package,' Rogers said as the teams met for the second straight weekend. 'So I'm very excited to be a part of it. Whatever they need from me, hopefully I can give it to them.' Helsley, who had 21 saves for the St. Louis Cardinals before being acquired for a trio of prospects Wednesday, and Rogers, a side-armer whose 392 appearances since 2019 are tied for the fourth-most in the majors, are expected to fortify a bullpen that was beginning to show vulnerability ahead of All-Star closer Edwin Díaz.
