Ex-Celtic and West Brom kid could be on his way to Motherwell

Yahoo11-07-2025
Motherwell are set to snap up former Celtic striker Eseosa Sule on loan from West Brom.
The 19-year-old, who is eligible for Scotland and Nigeria, is expected to seal a deal at Fir Park until the end of the coming season.

Glasgow-born Sule, who signed for West Brom from the Scottish champions in 2023, excelled in PL2 last season, scoring nine goals in 11 games, but only managed one first-team appearance with the Baggies.
He has signed a new long-term contract with the EFL Championship club, who are keen for him to go out and get first-team games.
Motherwell boss Jens Berthel Askou has won the race to sign the talented teenager, ahead of likes of Lyon and Newcastle.
The news that will please Motherwell fans who are looking for new players comes as if emerged that Rangers had a cheeky bid for Lennon Miller booted out nearly 15 months ago.

It's common knowledge that Celtic's advances for the young midfielder were rebuffed by the Fir Park club, but the Rangers offer only came to light in recent days.

Miller is easily the most attractive young prospect in Scottish football right now, and won't be short of offers.
The 18-year-old won every Scottish Premiership Young Player of the Year award going, broke into the Scotland first-team set-up and made his debut, and excelled in a Motherwell side that struggled last season amid two manager walk-outs in Stuart Kettlewell and Michael Wimmer.

Rangers are believed to have verbally offered £1million for the Wishaw hot shot, which was instantly refused.
Clubs in England and around Europe are circling, knowing they're looking at £3million just to enter a conversation, and Miller has admitted himself that he fancies a move abroad, hopefully in the vein of the likes of Lewis Ferguson, Scott McTominay, Billy Gilmour and Max Johnston.
Dad Lee also says that would be an attractive proposition for the star, who is currently in pre-season with Motherwell and travelled to their base in Delden last week.
In the meantime, should Sule sign for Motherwell, fans might get their first glimpse of the player during their Premier Sports Cup Group G opener against Clyde at the Hamilton Community Stadium on Saturday.
Askou's side are then at home to League Two champions Peterhead on Tuesday, July 15.

Rangers Tabbed 'Best Fit' for Braves' Struggling DH

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Both the Texas Rangers and Atlanta Braves have not had the seasons they'd hoped for. Each organization has won a World Series in the last four years, and both had high expectations headed into the season. The Rangers entered Wednesday 1 1/2 games out of a postseason spot, while the Braves entered 10 1/2 games out. Atlanta will be trading a few players at the trade deadline and Texas has been labeled as the best fit for one of those players. ATLANTA, GA - APRIL 21: Marcell Ozuna #20 of the Atlanta Braves hits a home run in the first inning against the Texas Rangers at Truist Park on April 21, 2024 in Atlanta, Georgia. ATLANTA, GA - APRIL 21: Marcell Ozuna #20 of the Atlanta Braves hits a home run in the first inning against the Texas Rangers at Truist Park on April 21, 2024 in Atlanta, Georgia. Matthew Grimes Jr./ESPN's MLB insider Jeff Passan has labeled the Rangers as the "best fit" for Braves designated hitter Marcell Ozuna. "Rangers GM Chris Young is perpetually in win-now mode and needs to be convinced to offload players," Passan wrote. "The team's recent hot streak is the sort of thing that could embolden him to go after a bat like Ozuna, who, with Drake Baldwin's emergence in Atlanta, no longer has a regular spot in the lineup and, with free agency beckoning, probably will waive his no-trade clause in search of everyday at-bats, whether it's with Texas or elsewhere." Despite a down season that has seen his average dip to .235, Ozuna could be a shot in the arm and boost of energy for the Rangers offense that ranks bottom five in nearly every offensive category and is trying to track down the Astros and Mariners. The one tricky aspect of an Ozuna trade, though, is that he has 10-five rights, meaning he could veto any trade that he wants to. If he is willing to accept a trade to the Rangers, they would be in good shape to get back to the postseason for the second time in the last three seasons. Rangers Announce Disappointing Joc Pederson Update

Rangers Announce Disappointing Joc Pederson Update originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Veteran designated hitter Joc Pederson enters his 12th major-league season, and his first with the Texas Rangers. Pederson originally broke into the majors with the Los Angeles Dodgers, making the first of his two All-Star appearances as a member of the organization. He spent seven seasons in Los Angeles before becoming an MLB journeyman. This past offseason, Pederson signed a two-year, $37 million contract with the Rangers following an impressive 2024 with the Arizona Diamondbacks. His consistent bat and veteran presence were staples of Arizona's lineup last year. In 132 games for the Diamondbacks in 2024, the 33-year-old batted .275 with 23 home runs and posted a career-high .908 OPS, performances that earned him the opportunity to become Texas's everyday designated hitter. The 2025 season has been a disaster for Pederson. He struggled to find his rhythm at the plate before suffering a right-hand fracture after being hit by a pitch in late May, landing on the 10-day injured list. While initial reports suggested he might return before the All-Star break, the Rangers recently announced his recovery timeline has been pushed back. Pederson is now projected to resume batting practice in two to three weeks. Prior to the injury, Pederson appeared in 46 games, but his offensive performance dipped sharply. His OPS slumped to a career-low .507, and he managed just two home runs, uncharacteristic numbers for the left-handed slugger. Texas will need Pederson to rebound down the stretch. The Rangers sit at 45-48, fourth in the AL West, enduring a disappointing season just two years removed from their World Series championship in 2023. This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jul 11, 2025, where it first appeared.
