MP Supriya Sule wants separate authority for Hinjewadi cluster

Pune: Baramati MP Supriya Sule on Monday met Pune divisional commissioner Chandrakant Pulkundwar and demanded formation of a dedicated administrative authority for Hinjewadi-Maan-Marunji cluster and surrounding areas which are rapidly becoming urbanised. Sule cited severe infrastructure gaps and uncoordinated governance to back her demand. In a detailed memorandum submitted to Pulkundwar, Sule said the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park — located in her Lok Sabha constituency — is a world-class IT hub. However, it continues to face civic challenges — such as traffic congestion, poor roads, inadequate drainage, irregular electricity supply and dependence on water tankers. The state must set up a special urban development or an industrial township authority immediately to ensure focused development. The grievance redressal must be streamlined ," she said. Last week, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis appointed the Pune divisional commissioner as the single-point official to coordinate and resolve civic issues in Hinjewadi. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo During Monday's meeting, Pulkundwar assured Sule he would hold weekly reviews and include IT industry volunteers in coordination meetings. IT representatives, who attended the meeting, said Pulkundwar directed officials to share details of blocked natural water channels — already reported to PMRDA — with IT representatives for transparency. Sule flagged critical infrastructure issues, especially in the Croma Chowk-Amsterdam Chowk area, where she said permanent Metro barricades and staircases have narrowed the 40-ft-wide road to 30 ft. "After the Metro begins operations, only two lanes will remain functional and create a bottleneck. Also, the stairs should not descend directly onto the road," she said. Sule highlighted the absence of safe pedestrian infrastructure, overflowing drains, cratered internal roads, waterlogging because of blocked natural streams and lack of timely road repairs post utility excavation. The feeder road connecting Sus to Hinjewadi remains incomplete despite being approved years ago, she added. Among other concerns raised were frequent power cuts, poor street lighting, untreated sewage from the IT park entering the Mula river and high levels of noise pollution from late-night construction. "Residents, workers and IT firms are suffering because of fragmented planning. These are not isolated issues, but part of a wider governance failure," she said, urging the state to take urgent action.

State has failed to deal with drugs, corruption & unaccounted cash: Supriya

Pune: Baramati MP Supriya Sule on Monday said she would draw attention of the Centre towards drugs menace, corruption and unaccounted cash in Maharashtra because state govt was not serious about these. "These issues must be highlighted at the Union govt-level because the state has failed to resolve them. I will do it in Parliament if the state does not give justice in such matters," Sule, the NCP (SP) working president, told reporters after visiting the Sinhagad Road area, facing major traffic congestions of late. According to Sule, the cash allegedly found in the residence of a state minister would have disheartened Prime Minister Narendra Modi and finance Minister Nirmala Sitaram — the proponents of cashless economy and digital payment systems. She said it was worrisome for the nation if cash was found at the state-level when the Union govt was trying to focus on digitisation. You Can Also Check: Pune AQI | Weather in Pune | Bank Holidays in Pune | Public Holidays in Pune "The demonetisation was done to reduce black money. If a bagful of cash is found on such a large scale, an inquiry should be carried out about what happened to the demonetisation," she said. Sule said if the state decided to fight against drugs, her party would join it. The govt was not doing enough to bring down the menace of drug addiction despite repeated letters to the state to deal with this problem, she said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The Baramati MP termed the action of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) against her nephew, MLA Rohit Pawar, "vendetta politics". The ED named Rohit in the chargesheet related to the purchase of Kannad cooperative sugar factory in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar by Baramati Agro Limited, owned by Rohit and his family members. Sule said Rohit's name was not there in the first list of accused. Most of those in the first list joined BJP, she said. "Names of the original accused have been removed from the list and a new list has been prepared, which features Rohit. He (Rohit) is in the opposition party and raising his voice against the corruption of the govt," she said. According to Sule, the act of some Congress leaders from Pune joining BJP shows that the latter has no option but to induct them because they are talented. "BJP had made an announcement to make 'Congress Mukt Bharat' (India Congress-free). But now, most of the Congress leaders are joining BJP," she said. Sule also condemned the manhandling and thrashing of Praveen Gaikwad of Sambhaji Brigade. "Such attacks are a shame for the cultured state like Maharashtra. It is shocking that action has not been taken against the attackers despite having a criminal background," she said. The Baramati MP also said she was not aware of the resignation of Jayant Patil, the state unit chief of NCP (SP).

Ex-Celtic and West Brom kid could be on his way to Motherwell

Motherwell are set to snap up former Celtic striker Eseosa Sule on loan from West Brom. The 19-year-old, who is eligible for Scotland and Nigeria, is expected to seal a deal at Fir Park until the end of the coming season. Advertisement Glasgow-born Sule, who signed for West Brom from the Scottish champions in 2023, excelled in PL2 last season, scoring nine goals in 11 games, but only managed one first-team appearance with the Baggies. He has signed a new long-term contract with the EFL Championship club, who are keen for him to go out and get first-team games. Motherwell boss Jens Berthel Askou has won the race to sign the talented teenager, ahead of likes of Lyon and Newcastle. The news that will please Motherwell fans who are looking for new players comes as if emerged that Rangers had a cheeky bid for Lennon Miller booted out nearly 15 months ago. Advertisement It's common knowledge that Celtic's advances for the young midfielder were rebuffed by the Fir Park club, but the Rangers offer only came to light in recent days. Advertisement Rangers are believed to have verbally offered £1million for the Wishaw hot shot, which was instantly refused. Clubs in England and around Europe are circling, knowing they're looking at £3million just to enter a conversation, and Miller has admitted himself that he fancies a move abroad, hopefully in the vein of the likes of Lewis Ferguson, Scott McTominay, Billy Gilmour and Max Johnston. Dad Lee also says that would be an attractive proposition for the star, who is currently in pre-season with Motherwell and travelled to their base in Delden last week. In the meantime, should Sule sign for Motherwell, fans might get their first glimpse of the player during their Premier Sports Cup Group G opener against Clyde at the Hamilton Community Stadium on Saturday. Askou's side are then at home to League Two champions Peterhead on Tuesday, July 15.

Hinjewadi part of her constituency, her ‘suggestion' accepted, but MP Sule not invited for the crucial meeting

THOUGH HINJEWADI is part of her Baramati Lok Sabha constituency, MP and NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule was not invited for the crucial meeting convened by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to discuss problem besetting the IT hub in Mumbai on Thursday. Her associates, however, said the government has accepted Sule's suggestion to appoint a single nodal officer to coordinate the functioning of various civic, traffic and district authorities. Hinjewadi, which falls in Sule's constituency, also saw a massive power outage that affected thousands of residents on Sunday. 'I have not been invited for the meeting nor was I informed about it,' Sule told The Indian Express on Thursday, adding, 'I will speak about this later in detail.' Fadnavis had called the meeting of Pune officials and stakeholders at 2 pm in Vidhan Bhavan following public uproar. Residents of Hinjewadi have also started an online campaign seeking merger of the IT hub with PCMC. Sule's associates, however, said the idea mooted by the MP to appoint a nodal officer has been accepted the government. Following the mega power outage, Sule had on Monday in a letter urged Fadnavis to appoint a nodal officer to resolve civic issues until an independent authority is appointed for the area. Sule had suggested either formation of a Special City Development Authority or an Industrial Urban Administrative Authority. The CM on Thursday announced the setting up of a Single Point Authority headed by Pune divisional commissioner. 'Despite the fact that Hinjewadi was part of the Baramati Lok Sabha constituency, the government does not have the courtesy to invite the local MP to discuss the issues affecting the IT hub. It was Supriya Sule who had written a letter to the CM and had tweeted urging him to hold an urgent meeting to discuss Hinjewadi's problems,' her associates said. Mahesh Tapase, spokesperson of the Nationalist Congress Party (SP), said the current government has often insulted MPs and MLAs of Opposition parties. 'When issues of public interest come and especially when the issues related to a constituency are represented by an MLA or MP, it is the duty of the government to invite them for any such meeting,' he said. 'The government cannot take unilateral decisions without consulting local representatives. This is against the principles of our Constitution. But this government has the habit of bypassing the Constitution. We strongly condemn the government attitude,' Tapase added. BJP MLA Shankar Jagtap, who was present at the meeting, said, 'No MP was invited for the meeting…Only three MLAs were present. Even Pune MP was not invited.' Heavy rain in recent days led to waterlogging in several key roads across the Hinjewadi area, resulting in huge traffic snarls. This irked IT professionals and residents who have launched a campaign to get their problems redressed by the state government. Hinjewadi is just outside the jurisdiction of the Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad municipal corporations. The Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park in Hinjewadi is under the control of the MIDC, while the residential area is governed by the PMRDA. This means that residents are often compelled to follow up on grievances with multiple agencies, resulting in considerable loss of time and mental distress, Sule had told Fadnavis in the letter.
