Summer is all about spending time outdoors, and hopefully fitting in a few al fresco meals and barbecues. But being on the go a lot, especially for shoppers who have camping, caravanning trips or British holiday stays on the cards, means it's wise to pack a portable BBQ, rather than hope there's one at the campsite.
Debenhams are selling a Living and Home Portable Charcoal Grill Charcoal BBQ, designed for use on patios. It's £34.40, down from £63.33 - that's a saving of 46%. Available in black, it can also be placed on a table, making it easier on the back when flipping burgers or turning sausages.
With two grilling areas, meat can sizzle on the lower rack while corn on the cobs and veg skewers cook more slowly above. For a portable barbecue that can be wheeled round the garden, try the CosmoGrill Outdoor Jr. Smoker Barbecue Charcoal Portable BBQ Grill Garden from B&Q. It's pricier, costing £99.99 and is only available online, but features a smoker for adding more flavour to meat and fish.
For another camping-friendly BBQ, there's the Weber Smokey Joe Premium Portable Charcoal BBQ - Grey from Argos. Also £99.99, the bit of kit is rust free, so there's no worries about leaving it outside. The bowl of the barbecue is made out of porcelain enamel, designed to help ensure an even cook - so raw chicken and overcooked steak should hopefully be more avoidable.
One shopper said of the Living and Home on Tripadvisor: 'Very efficient service, arrived extremely well packed, and good value.' A second said: 'It arrived very quickly, great service, kept in touch from start of order to delivery.'

A third added: 'I was a bit wary at first because I hadn't heard of the company, so I did my research and went ahead and purchased. I was not disappointed, very good delivery but more importantly, an excellent product.'
However one shopper said: 'Fab-sized bbq, bought for camping trips. The only issue we had was during the assembly, one of the holes was missing for the grill to go in, we had to drill a hole in the correct place before we could use it.

"Not a major issue, but glad we assembled before leaving for the camping trip.' Another said: 'Very good product but not easy to assemble. Used it for the first time yesterday and was very pleased with its performance, cleaning it requires everything to be washed in warm/hot water.'
For those looking to do away with environmentally damaging, disposable barbecues, the Living and Home Portable Charcoal Grill Charcoal BBQ is a great alternative.

Jane Dunn's Battenberg cake

'I think everyone has probably seen a Battenberg cake by this point, right? It's famous for its shape and style, and even colours and flavours – so why not make a homemade version?' asks food blogger and recipe writer Jane Dunn. 'I want to show you that this bake is incredibly easy to achieve by yourself, and it's far less scary than it may look or sound. I went for the classic yellow and pink colours for the sponge, flavoured with vanilla or almond, sandwiched with apricot jam and covered in marzipan. Of course, if you wanted to change up the colours for a theme, this is one of the best bakes in the world for that.' Advertisement Battenberg cake Ingredients (Serves 8) 250g unsalted butter or baking spread, at room temperature 250g caster sugar 4 eggs 175g self-raising flour 75g ground almonds 1tsp baking powder 1tsp vanilla or almond extract Pink food colouring For the decoration 100g apricot jam 400g marzipan (Ellis Parrinder/PA) Method 1. Preheat the oven to 180°C/160°C fan and grab a 23cm (9in) square tin. Make a foil division in the middle of the tin, then line both halves with parchment paper so you get two rectangles. 2. Beat the butter and sugar together in a large bowl until fluffy. Add the eggs, flour, ground almonds, baking powder and extract of choice and mix. 3. Split into two, and colour one half pink. Pour each into a half of the tin and bake for 30–40 minutes. Leave to cool fully in the tin. Advertisement 4. Once cooled, cut each cake in half lengthways. Sandwich the cake slices together with apricot jam. Cover with more apricot jam and then completely cover with the marzipan. Serve with the join underneath the cake. Notes: • You can flavour the coloured sponges as you like, such as lemon for the yellow and raspberry for the pink, if you have the flavourings available. • Trim the edges of the sponges so you can fit the layers together neatly. • You can colour the sponges whatever colours you want to suit a theme. • One good top tip: you can use two 900g loaf tins instead to make it easier – the bake time for these is 28–32 minutes.
