WWE taking over Tampa for four shows in four nights. Could this be in Miami's future, too?

Miami Herald16-05-2025

To see what World Wrestling Entertainment has become since merging with top MMA promotion UFC (in their own version of the mega-powers) under the TKO Group banner is amazing.
Financially, WWE is establishing record numbers with strong attendance and even stronger gates consistently — nationally and internationally. They run shows weekly (four to five per week) with no offseason, including live TV shows, non-televised cards, special streaming events and more.
WWE's annual Super Bowl is WrestleMania, which once again did tremendous numbers over two consecutive nights in April in a massive NFL stadium (Allegiant Stadium) with around 60,000 fans each night. Las Vegas served as the host city for Wrestlemania 41, and this city that really doesn't sleep actually featured six WWE shows ('SmackDown', 'NXT Stand & Deliver', 'WrestleMania Night 1', 'WrestleMania Night 2', 'Raw', 'NXT') in five days, using three venues, during WrestleMania Week.
With the long-term success of WrestleMania Week annually, WWE is now looking to capitalize even more by using a version of that successful format for other ventures throughout the year.
Thus, a WWE Tampa Takeover
Memorial Day Weekend will see WWE conduct four shows in four nights at one venue with 'WWE Saturday Night's Main Event' (May 24), 'WWE NXT Battleground' (May 25) , 'WWE Monday Night Raw' (May 26) and 'WWE NXT' (May 27) all at the Yuengling Center at the University of South Florida in Tampa.
Tampa is accustomed to big WWE events, hosting the two-night WrestleMania 37 in 2021 at Raymond James Stadium and the Royal Rumble in January 2024 at Tropicana Field.
With the success from weekends like that, this could mean bigger and better for other major cities who clamor to attract WWE to its county. The economic impact from WrestleMania Week alone (with tens of thousands of fans from around the globe attending) has cities around the country bidding for that annual event
Could WWE take over Miami?
WWE has done it before as Miami hosted WrestleMania Week in 2012 with WrestleMania 28 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. WWE has conducted a Royal Rumble and plenty of live TV shows and non-televised cards in Broward and Miami-Dade counties. So it seems fitting, if Miami is not landing a WrestleMania in the near future, the prospects for a takeover-type weekend, like in Tampa, is very possible.
Miami is not only the gateway to the Americas, but factor WWE recently acquired Lucha Libre pro wrestling style super group AAA, which is based in Mexico. That makes Miami in even more attractive to WWE and vice-versa.
WWE Intercontinental Champion Dom Mysterio told me during a video interview posted below: 'I think it would be awesome to include Miami. I think we should do a whole Florida loop. Start off with the whole Florida takeover, you start in Tampa, work your way to Orlando, hit Miami. Do a couple of nights here and there. I think it would be great, whether it's NXT, Raw, SmackDown, even a PLE [Premium Live Event] back in Miami, because who doesn't love Miami?'
Miami is also invested in annually hosting sports and entertainment events over a multiday period.
The circus comes to town (via Cirque du Soleil) and spends a week in the same location (Kaseya Center). UFC, three days, two events, one show, one location (Kaseya Center). A 12-day pro tennis tournament (Miami Open at Hard Rock Stadium). Pro golf spends four days at the same golf course, i.e. the Honda Classic/Cognizant Classic at PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens. The Miami Grand Prix, three races in three days outside Hard Rock Stadium. A three-game series in baseball, i.e. New York Mets vs. Miami Marlins at Marlins Park.
As part of this new deal, WWE will host a joint show with AAA, 'Worlds Collide', on Saturday, June 7 at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles, which also has a strong Latin market. It's a WWE/AAA Southern California takeover. That event will be the same day as the 'WWE Money in the Bank' premium show, which is after 'Worlds Collide' at nearby Inglewood's Intuit Dome. The WWE Money in the Bank Weekend also includes 'WWE Smackdown' on Friday, June 6 from the Dignity Health Arena in Bakersfield, California.
In Central Florida, not far from Miami, WWE houses its Performance Center, where new recruits are trained in professional wrestling/sports entertainment — the WWE way — by its credible staff in Orlando.
A Miami Takeover with a Miami Makeover. Stay posted.

LA Knight will never win a world title in WWE

Some places do power rankings. Here at Cageside, we do a stock report. In this weekly series, we identify three Superstars (or groups of Superstars) who are on their way up, and three that are moving in the opposite direction. After a busy week that included Money in the Bank 2025, a lot of fortunes were changed. Advertisement With that in mind, let's see whose stock decreased the most this week: Stock Down #3: LA Knight The megastar cut a promo on SmackDown talking about how he's already lost two previous Money in the Bank ladder matches, but the third time's a charm. Unfortunately for Knight, he was completely destroyed by Seth Rollins' crew a short while later and then became a three time Money in the Bank loser the very next night in Los Angeles. It appears that LA has reached his ceiling in WWE, which puts him in a pretty good spot overall, but one that will likely never take him to a world championship. Stock Down #2: Aleister Black Aleister was also wiped out on SmackDown as part of the Paul Heyman Guys running amok on the blue brand. He was tossed out of the ring like a jabroni after they beat him up, and probably won't get a chance at revenge since they are on different brands. Booking like this contributes to Aleister losing more of that special aura that stars initially have when they debut hot or return after a long time away. Stock Down #1: War Raiders Erik and Ivar lost a tag team match on Raw against The Judgment Day's Finn Balor and JD McDonagh, seemingly knocking the former Vikings even further away from world tag team championship gold after they've already failed multiple times to regain the belts from New Day. To make things even worse, Erik's wife Sarah Logan aka Valhalla revealed that WWE is not renewing her contract with the company. Advertisement Now let's see whose stock increased the most this week: Stock Up #3: Naomi Naomi hasn't won singles gold in WWE since 2017, but that's probably going to change sometime during the next year because she now has the women's Money in the Bank contract. Naomi's new 'proceed with caution' attitude means she is a good bet to find the perfect time to cash in that contract to win a world title, just like all the women before her have successfully done. Stock Up #2: Ron Killings / R-Truth The live fans on Raw and SmackDown chanted 'We Want Truth!' following the news that R-Truth was exiting the company after WWE chose to not renew his contract. WWE listened to the people and gave them what they want this time, because Truth came back to screw over John Cena in the main event of Money in the Bank. He's now officially back in WWE as Ron Killings, and you can even buy his new shirt. How about that? Stock Up #1: Seth Rollins, Bron Breakker, Bronson Reed, Paul Heyman Rollins walked into Money in the Bank as the way-too-obvious favorite to win the men's ladder match, and he proved to be correct when nobody was able to stop him from climbing the ladder and securing the briefcase. The Two Bron Power Trip really came through big for Seth this week in terms of kicking ass on Raw, SmackDown, and Money in the Bank, and really gave weight to Seth's threat about holding all the power in WWE coming out of this weekend. It sure looks like Seth's group is the most dominant force in WWE right now, and the scary thing is that they're just getting started. Advertisement There you have it, Cagesiders. UFC fans share what they think about Trump ahead of O'Malley-Dvalishvili showdown

UFC fans gathered in Newark, N.J., for the highly anticipated matchup between Merab Dvalishvili and Sean O'Malley. But the two fighters weren't the only special guests in the arena — President Donald Trump was also in attendance. Though there was no official announcement, fans were clearly anticipating Trump's arrival. Fox News Digital spoke to fans before the event about Trump's performance during the first six months of his second term. Some were eager to praise the president, while others were skeptical or outright disappointed. "He's doing an amazing job. He's shocking us all, but he's doing what everybody knows he's going to do. Wow," Erin Kerr said. "I believe that Trump is somebody to respect. He's always honest about things and at the end of the day, you know, it might be politics, but you know we should kind of respect what's going on, you know what I'm saying," Eric Ventura told Fox News Digital. "I'd much rather see the UFC than see two bloated billionaires fight each other," Paul Gordon said. "Probably Elon would be kind of funny, but I gotta go with what's happening tonight, it's gonna be better," Chris Wright said. "Trump — he's got that big a-- chin," Wright told Fox News Digital. "He took a bullet, right? I think if you just take a bullet, maybe you can take a punch," Gustavo Granados said. "If Elon, if Trump were to fight, I think Trump would get it done," Jimmy Malloy said. Several fans also chose Musk, noting the billionaire was several years younger than the president, which they thought would give him an advantage. In the end, Trump received a warm welcome from the roaring crowd as he entered the Prudential Center with UFC CEO Dana White, a longtime ally of the president who spoke at the 2024 Republican National Convention.

Dana White says Merab Dvalishvili already in bantamweight GOAT convo after UFC 316

Dana White says Merab Dvalishvili already in bantamweight GOAT convo after UFC 316 Show Caption Hide Caption UFC 316: Dana White post-fight interview UFC CEO Dana White spoke to MMA Junkie and reporters at the UFC 316 post-fight press conference and talked the top storylines from Saturday's event. NEWARK, N.J. – If Merab Dvalishvili isn't already the greatest 135-pounder in UFC history, he very soon could be. That's what Dana White thinks after he watched Dvalishvili (20-4 MMA, 13-2 UFC) thoroughly dominate former champion Sean O'Malley (18-3 MMA, 10-3 UFC) to win their bantamweight title rematch Saturday in the UFC 316 main event. Dvalishvili dominated O'Malley in their first meeting in 2024, too, but toyed with him, in part, and won a decision to take the belt. The rematch looked like a mismatch when Dvalishvili took O'Malley down with ease on repeat and eventually tapped him out in the third round. "I agree (he looks like one of the best bantamweights of all time)," UFC CEO White said at a post-fight news conference at Prudential Center. "We've been talking about (what it will take to beat him). I don't know. "And Sean O'Malley came in 100 percent ready, mentally, physically, in every way you could be ready for this fight, and Merab finished him. He's definitely there (in the conversation as the best bantamweight of all time)." As for what could be next for Dvalishvili, White said he appreciates the fighter's enthusiastic quest to have four title defenses in one calendar years. Dvalishvili, after winning the title at UFC 306 this past September, outworked Umar Nurmagomedov in his first defense in January. Cory Sandhagen, White said, is next in line for a shot at the belt, but also thinks the champ might wind up in another rematch eventually. "He will keep racking (wins) up, I'm sure," White said. "The Umar rematch is interesting and it makes your legacy even better to run through everybody twice."
