‘People have information': Pheobe's mum in moving plea

Perth Now3 days ago

Vanished teenager Pheobe Bishop's mother is convinced someone has information about where she is, issuing an emotional plea for them to come forward.
In a social media post on Wednesday morning, Kylie Johnson noted it had been 20 days since the 17-year-old had gone missing.
Pheobe hasn't been seen since May 15 after failing to check in for her flight at Bundaberg Airport. She was on her way to visit her boyfriend in Western Australia.
Her bank and social media accounts have not been touched and police say her disappearance is suspicious.
'Starting day 20 with you still missing Pheobe,' Ms Johnson wrote in a Facebook post alongside an image of a Queensland Police alert calling for information about her daughter's disappearance.
'I don't know if life will ever be the same again? I don't know if I will ever look at the world the same way that I did before May 15th.

On Saturday, Ms Johnson spoke of her heartbreak and worry as detectives to try and piece together her daughter's movements.
In a prepared statement Ms Johnson told how her family's life had been changed for the worse since Pheobe's disappearance.
'This is a pain no person or family should have to experience,' she said.
'Pheobe was a beautiful, loving, kind person and every day not knowing where she has been is devastating for us.'
While she still held hope Pheobe would be found alive, Ms Johnson said 'if the worst case scenario has happened, I at least need to know where she is resting'.

Pheobe's housemates, Tanika Bromley and James Wood, told police that they drove Pheobe in their grey Hyundai ix35, dropping her and her luggage at the airport for the 8.30am flight. But police say she never made it.
That car and the Gin Gin house the trio had been living in were declared crime scenes in the early stages of the police investigation.
There is no suggestion that Mr Wood, 34, or Ms Bromley, 33, are involved in Pheobe's disappearance.
Both Mr Wood and Ms Bromley are facing unrelated weapons charges, stemming from a police search of their Hyundai during the investigation into Pheobe's whereabouts.
On Tuesday, the Nightly revealed that Queensland Police have yet to fly to meet with Pheobe's boyfriend for an in-person interview.
The teen is not believed to be a suspect in the case and is thought to have cooperated with detectives. Police previously confirmed they had spoken to the 17-year-old.
It's believed Pheobe tried to call her boyfriend as she was being driven to the airport but the call cut out.
He told the Daily Mail he could not hear Pheobe during the call.
Unaware that anything was wrong, he went to the Perth airport and waited hours in vain for her to arrive.
The greater Gin Gin area remains the focus of the investigation.
Police are appealing appeal to anyone with information, vision or sightings of a grey Hyundai ix35 between May 15 to 18 in the greater Gin Gin area to contact them.
Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000.

Bundaberg police to give update on missing Queensland teenager Pheobe Bishop

Police are set to provide an update about missing 17-year-old Pheobe Bishop, whose body they believe was discovered near a national park in southern Queensland yesterday afternoon. In a statement on Friday night police said they had discovered what they "believed to be human remains" near the Good Night National Park near Gin Gin at about 2:30pm on Friday. "The remains are yet to be formally identified; however, investigators are in contact with the family of missing 17-year-old Pheobe Bishop," the statement said, Ms Bishop was last seen on May 15 when she was supposed to fly to Brisbane from Bundaberg Airport. Her housemates James Wood, 34, and Tanika Bromley, 33, were charged with one count each of murder, and two counts each of interfering with a corpse on Thursday. The cases against Mr Wood and Ms Bromley were mentioned at Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Friday. Neither of the accused men appeared and the matters were adjourned until August 11. Police are continuing to appeal for any information relating to Pheobe and the movement of a grey Hyundai IX35 between May 15 and 18 in the greater Gin Gin area.

Katter hits back after Irwin croc sledge

Maverick Queensland MP Bob Katter has hit back at Terri Irwin after she publicly criticised the Katter's Australian Party (KAP) latest bill to cull crocodiles in the north of the state. Mrs Irwin described the amended proposal as 'lazy and sloppy' earlier in the week and warned it would 'turn the clock back to the dark and destructive days prior to the 1970s'. The bill claims Queensland has seen a giant increase in crocodile numbers, which Terri Irwin disputes, as justification for removing and euthanising crocs found in 'populated' waterways, and enabling hunting safaris on Aboriginal-controlled land. However, on Friday Mr Katter hit back at the animal conservationist, questioning her knowledge of crocodile preservation in Australia. NewsWire / Tertius Pickard Credit: News Corp Australia 'Mrs Irwin … said that I'm a dangerous person and it's the only time I've ever agreed with her in my life,' he said in a video posted to Facebook. 'She knows all about crocodiles … well that's rather fascinating for me because she lives in Brisbane and I work with the top crocodile handlers in the world I would argue. 'Versace and the other big fashion houses have huge crocodile farms here.' Mr Katter went on to explain that the best crocodile handlers in the world have 'always been here in Australia'. 'She knows all about it well …. I'm a bit fascinated by that … how would you know about crocodiles if you live in Brisbane?' he said while laughing. 'Oh that's right she's got them all locked up in a cage in Brisbane I'd forgotten about that.' But Mrs Irwin has earlier claimed the amended bill – which imagines currently croc-infested waterways being used recreationally – is 'reckless, ill-informed and dangerous on so many levels'. Ms Irwin has argued the removal of crocodiles from waterways will increase the likelihood of attacks due to a false sense of security. FILE Credit: Supplied In a 14-page long submission, Irwin argued a false sense of security may be created by the proposals, which would actually increase crocodile-related deaths. 'The removal of crocodiles, either through trapping or culling, will instead increase the likelihood of crocodile attacks as people believe the lie that once a crocodile is removed from a waterway then there will be no crocodiles,' she wrote. 'Research has consistently shown that when a crocodile dies or is removed, then another crocodile immediately comes in to take over that territory. Because of this reality, the Bill will not eliminate or even greatly reduce the risk of crocodile attacks.' Ms Irwin, pictured with her son Robert, also disputes claims crocodile numbers have increased. NewsWire / Tertius Pickard Credit: News Corp Australia Irwin also disputed claims that crocodile numbers have dramatically increased, saying there is no Queensland data to confirm that and the bill's cited increase does not account for multiple sightings of the same croc. 'It is the Irwin family and Australia Zoo's belief that individual culling and relocation are not effective ways to manage crocodile/human coexistence; rather, research and educating people are the key,' she said. 'The best course of action is for people in crocodile territory to be 'Croc-wise', reduce risk wherever possible and take sensible steps to minimise human-crocodile interaction.' KAP MP Shane Knuth spoke about the bill at state parliament last month, stating North Queenslanders are 'angry about losing more of our recreational waterways to the increasing crocodile population'. Mr Katter said the best crocodile handlers have 'always been in Australia'. NewsWire / Martin Ollman Credit: News Corp Australia 'The constant threat of attacks, recent deaths and near-death experiences are dramatically affecting North Queensland's outdoor lifestyle,' he said. 'We never had to worry about the threats of crocodiles in our recreational waterways and beaches until the last two decades.' Crocodiles are protected in Queensland and remain listed as vulnerable under the Nature Conservation Act 1992.

Tragic update in search for couple missing in Tasmania

Two bodies have been found during the search for a missing Brisbane couple in Tasmania. Tasmanian Police said the bodies, believed to be those of missing tourists Leannedra Kang, 25, and her partner Takahiro Toya, 26, were discovered near their crashed car in northeast Tasmania on Friday evening. Inspector Luke Manhood said police located a car submerged in water off Tebrakunna Road at about 5.30pm, with the bodies of the couple found nearby a short time later. 'At this early stage, it appears they were travelling over a bridge when the vehicle left the roadway and ended up in the water,' he said. 'This is a tragic outcome, and our thoughts are with their families and loved ones.' Concerns were first raised when the couple failed to board their return flight from Launceston to Brisbane on Wednesday, and their hire car was never returned. 'Our initial investigations suggest there are no suspicious circumstances, but further forensic examinations will now take place, as is the usual process, and a report will be prepared for the Coroner,' Manhood said. 'We would like to thank community members for their efforts in providing information to assist in the search.' The Brisbane couple vanished while travelling interstate. Credit: Facebook
