Bihar election 2025: Tejashwi Yadav claims his name missing from Bihar voter list, BJP says, 'fake news alert'

Bihar election 2025: Tejashwi Yadav claims his name missing from Bihar voter list, BJP says, 'fake news alert' With just months to go before the Bihar Assembly elections, the voter list revision process has sparked a political uproar, especially after RJD Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav discovered his own name missing from the electoral rolls during a live Press conference in Patna. In a dramatic moment, Yadav used the Election Commission of India's mobile App to check his voter status by entering his name and EPIC number, only to find no results. Displaying the outcome to the media, he remarked sarcastically: 'My name is not in the voter list after the revision. It means I am not a resident of Bihar and I cannot contest the election.' He added: 'As I am currently in Bihar, I can physically verify my details. But what about the poor and migrant voters who are working outside the state? If their names don't appear on the app, how will they know? Is the Election Commission is running a fake app?' श्री तेजस्वी यादव जी का नाम वोटर लिस्ट से काट दिया गया है! भाजपा-आरएसएस की बड़ी साज़िश। EPIC: RAB2916120#TejashwiYadav #Bihar #RJD — Tejashwi Yadav (@TejashwiYdvRJD) August 2, 2025 Tejashwi Yadav alleges mass voter deletion ahead of elections Tejashwi Yadav has raised serious concerns after more than 65 lakh voter names were reportedly deleted across Bihar during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2025 drive carried out by the Election Commission. This accounts for nearly 8.5 per cent of the total voters in the state. Yadav said that he had properly submitted his voter form, which was collected by the Booth Level Officer (BLO) from his home. Yet, he says his name and those of many RJD staff members, a senior IAS officer, and his wife have gone missing from the voter list. He claimed that 20,000 to 30,000 names have been removed from every Assembly constituency, and questioned whether this was a mistake or done with a political motive. 'There was no transparency. Political parties weren't even told before deleting names,' Yadav said, adding that even Supreme Court guidelines were not followed during the process. Tejashwi Yadav slams Election Commission, calls for voter list transparency Yadav has strongly criticised the Election Commission, accusing it of acting under political pressure. He called it a 'Godi Commission,' a term used for institutions seen as supporting the ruling party without question. Yadav claimed, 'The Election Commission is taking orders from Gujarat. It has become a puppet.' He demanded that the Commission make public all details of the deleted voters, including EPIC numbers, full addresses, and polling booth information, so that political parties can cross-check and ensure no genuine voter has been wrongly removed. He said the lack of this information makes it hard to hold anyone accountable and affects fair democratic processes. Yadav also shared that an RJD team met with the Election Commission on Friday to raise their concerns, but their issues were not taken seriously. Due to the large number of deleted names, Yadav urged the Commission and the government to reconsider the election timeline and give more time for people to file objections and corrections. 'Lakhs of people can't be removed from the voter list without notice. People should be given a fair chance to raise objections and get their names added again,' he said. EC denies Tejashwi's claim The ECI denied the allegation, stating that Tejashwi's name was indeed present in the roll. BJP leader Amit Malviya also posted a screenshot of the draft roll on X, showing Tejashwi Yadav's name at Serial Number 416. 'Fake News Alert. Tejashwi Yadav's claim that his name is missing from the electoral roll post Special Intensive Revision is false. His name appears at Serial Number 416. Please verify facts before amplifying misinformation. Deliberate attempts to mislead voters must be called out,' Malviya said on X. As per the current guidelines, voters can still submit their claims and objections until September 1, 2025. Anyone whose name has been wrongly deleted can fill out Form 6 along with the required documents to restore their name in the list. Patna has the highest number of 46,51,694 electors followed by Purvi Champaran (33,73,055), Muzaffarpur (32,03,370), Madhubani (30,24,245), Gayaji (29,01,493), Samastipur (28,61,415), Saran (28,60,885) and Darbhanga (27,99,852). Sheohar accounts for the lowest number of voters at 2,95,929, followed by Arwal (5,11,568), Lakhisarai (7,33,600), Jahanabad (7,81,313) and Munger (9,75,222). (With inputs from agencies)

'My name missing too': Tejashwi Yadav slams EC over 6.5 mn voter deletions

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav has alleged that the Election Commission has deleted names of around 6.5 million voters from the electoral rolls in Bihar — nearly 8.5 per cent of the total voters — without providing enough information to trace them. He added that even his own name is missing from the list, raising serious questions about the transparency of the process. 'My name is not there in the electoral roll. How will I contest the elections?' Yadav said, while showing his phone as proof. He said that the lists shared by the Election Commission do not contain vital details like addresses, booth numbers, or EPIC (Electors Photo Identity Card) numbers of the deleted voters. This, he alleged, has made it impossible to identify whose names have been removed. 'Almost 20,000-30,000 names have been removed from every assembly constituency. A total of around 6.5 million voters, or about 8.5 per cent of the total, have had their names removed from the list." He further added, "Whenever the Election Commission issued an advertisement, it would mention that many people had shifted, many were deceased, and many had duplicate names... But in the list provided to us by the Election Commission, they have cleverly not given the address of any voter, no booth number, and no EPIC number, so that we cannot find out whose names have been removed from the voter list,' he said.

Congress President Kharge accuses Centre, EC of disenfranchising poor and minorities

ANI Kharge accuses Centre, EC of disenfranchising poor and minorities Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday launched a scathing attack on the Election Commission of India and the BJP-led Central government, accusing them of systematically disenfranchising large sections of the population, particularly the poor, Dalits, backward communities, and minorities, through mass deletion of names from electoral the AICC Law, Human Rights and RTI Department's Legal Conclave, Kharge said, "When lakhs of voters are removed from the electoral list, and this trend spreads nationwide, it must be called out. Today, they themselves have published such a list. If out of 70 crore voters, one crore is removed without reason, it's clearly an attempt to disenfranchise the poor and minorities." Kharge alleged that the Election Commission and the government are equally responsible for what he described as the erosion of constitutional rights."The government and the Election Commission are responsible for eroding constitutional rights. The Supreme Court has acknowledged the seriousness of this matter, but despite several hearings, the Election Commission has not changed its behaviour," Kharge said. He further accused the Election Commission of losing its autonomy and called the apex poll body a puppet of PM Modi. He said, "Denying voting rights to 65 lakh or 1 crore voters in Bihar is a deliberate conspiracy to exclude Dalits and backward communities from participation. The Election Commission is a puppet of Modi ji." Kharge also linked these actions to a wider pattern of communal polarisation in BJP-governed states."I want to say clearly, in BJP-ruled states, atrocities against minorities have increased. They talk about Mughals, about chicken, about Mangalsutra, only to divide society. The people of this country elected the Prime Minister to protect the Constitution, not to crush it," he said. Meanwhile, Congress leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Saturday asserted that the election system in India was "already dead," and alleged that the 2024 Lok Sabha elections were "rigged" and that he has proof to substantiate the claim. He was speaking at the AICC annual legal conclave titled 'Constitutional Challenges - Perspectives & Pathways'."The truth is that the election system in India is already dead. The Prime Minister of India holds office with a very slim majority. If 15 seats were rigged, we suspect that the number is over 70 to 80, he would not have been the Prime Minister of India. We are going to prove to you in the coming few days how a Lok Sabha election can be rigged and was rigged," Rahul Gandhi said while addressing the gathering in the national the six-month investigation carried out by Congress, he further alleged that the Election Commission of India (ECI) doesn't exist and has disappeared. According to documentation received from the EC, Gandhi said that the Congress has ascertained that nearly 1.5 lakh voters out of 6.5 lakh who voted in the Lok Sabha elections were "fake"."It makes it clear that the institution that defends the constitution has been obliterated and taken over. We have such proof that will show the whole country that the institution of the Election Commission does not exist. It has disappeared. It has taken us 6 months of non-stop work to find this proof. You will see with zero doubt how a Lok Sabha election is stolen. 6.5 lakh voters vote, and 1.5 lakh of those voters are fake," Gandhi Congress leader rekindled his suspicions regarding the election system, saying that he had his doubts about "something being wrong" since 2014. Questioning the BJP's sweeping victories in the assembly elections of Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh, Gandhi noted that they began investigating electoral malpractices following their defeat in Maharashtra, where one crore new voters appeared within months ahead of the assembly elections, ultimately voting for the BJP.
