These two stunning NSW stays made the world's 100 best new hotels list
We called it – we knew The Eve Hotel Sydney would be one of the hottest Sydney hotel openings in years, and it of course made the list. This stunning urban property is from the folks at TFE Hotels, and it opened in Sydney's new Wunderlich Village lifestyle precinct in February this year. The Eve seamlessly blends the glamour and grunge that Redfern is known for, and features 102 boutique rooms, a rooftop deck with a 20-metre pool, lush greenery and a European-style lobby bar. Guests there are also be within walking distance of some of Sydney's best new dining venues, including Olympus, a bustling Greek taverna, and Island Radio, a high-energy Southeast Asian eatery. We're itching to check in!
But it was a hotel outside Sydney, up on the stunning Byron Bay coast, Basq House, that topped the list of best new hotels to open in Australia. I was lucky enough to stay here on my last trip to the boho beach town, and ended up naming it my favourite NSW stay of 2024. Designed to feel like a home away from home, the free-flowing property features plenty of communal spaces, including an eclectic lounge filled with board games, books, a bar, a fireplace, and a centrepiece magnesium pool inspired by the type you might find in a Moroccan riad. During my stay, I spent hours 'basqing' in the sun on comfy loungers by the pool, making the most of complimentary snacks from the self-service bar, and sinking into the plush bed in my light-filled room. Take me back!
Completing the line-up of Australian hotels on the best new openings list is the effortlessly cool Melbourne Place. There's a lot to love about this 16-storey brick hotel – its artfully warm design, locally made contemporary artworks, signature woody black tea fragrance, Mediterranean-leaning rooftop bar, and 192 spacious rooms with complimentary mini bars. Our Time Out Melbourne Food Editor, Lauren Dinse, particularly loved Melbourne Place's circular windows and mirrors, calling them 'sunlit portals to the surrounding city life.' Sounds pretty dreamy to us!

Joy Reid's substack following climbs after MSNBC firing
On Monday, the former Reid Out host announced that she was a 'Substack Bestseller with thousands of paid subscribers.' While it's unclear how many of her 168,000-plus followers shell out the $8 monthly subscription fee, even a small percentage of paying customers would potentially net Reid six figures per month. 'At the start of the year, I had a grand total of nine thousand subscribers, who mostly came to this page (then called "And another thing with Joy") to read my occasional posts, and to live chat with me as I sat on set at 30 Rock during MSNBC special coverage,' Reid wrote on Monday. 'That modest growth ended abruptly in January, when my then boss, the MSNBC president, told me I wasn't allowed to have a Substack. Other paid plans for her Substack musings include an annual subscription for $80 and a yearly 'Founding Member' subscription for $240. Substack takes a 10 percent commission from each of its authors - as well as a four percent surcharge per payment - leaving Reid with plenty left over to pay the bills. Even if just 5,000 of her subscribers opted for the yearly plan, she would still be raking in a cool $360,000 a year. That doesn't account for any revenue earned from her YouTube series, The Joy Reid Show, which launched on June 9 and counts more than 243,000 subscribers. Former CNN anchor Jim Acosta, for example, has amassed just over 300,000 subscribers on Substack after his resignation from the network in early January. Reid, who rankled MSNBC brass with her extreme online rants, was fired in late February by the network's new boss. An insider at MSNBC told Politico that her controversial social media posts - including shamed Latino Republican's for voting for Trump and claiming the media's preoccupation with Russia's invasion of Ukraine was motivated by the victims being 'white and largely Christian' - 'gave the Standards Department heartburn.' In January, Reid compared President Donald Trump to Nazi leader Adolf Hitler on Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Latin American Fashion Awards announce global Jury for 2025 edition
The Latin American Fashion Awards has announced its jury for the second edition, taking place from 6–9 November 2025 at Casa de Campo Resort in the Dominican Republic. Founded by Constanza Cavalli Etro and Silvia Argüello, the biennial event positions itself as a global platform for Latin American creatives, following a 2023 debut that drew participants from more than 25 countries and generated an estimated 3.3 billion media impressions. The 2025 panel blends returning industry figures, including Elle US editor-in-chief Nina García, Italian fashion journalist Anna dello Russo, CFDA chief executive Steven Kolb, and Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana president Carlo Capasa, with newcomers such as BoF founder Imran Amed, designer and sustainability advocate Gabriela Hearst, ZⓈONAMACO art fair founder Zélika García, and creative director Juan Costa Paz. Together, they will determine winners across 14 categories spanning designers, stylists, photographers, fashion filmmakers, and sustainability initiatives. 'The Latin American Fashion Awards highlight underrepresented talent and celebrate cultural diversity, making the industry more reflective of the world we live in,' said Kolb. 'The opportunity to elevate visionary creatives and participate in a movement that celebrates Latin American excellence is what draws me to this project.' While the Awards are framed as a celebration of cultural heritage, their strategic importance lies in the commercial leverage they can generate for regional talent. Latin American designers are increasingly visible on international runways, both under their own labels and at the helm of European houses—yet many still face structural barriers to scaling production, accessing distribution networks, and securing investment. A cultural and commercial showcase The Awards' format, combining high-profile ceremonies, curated cultural programming, and networking events, functions as both a cultural showcase and a market access accelerator. By placing winners into a dedicated growth programme during Milan Fashion Week in September 2026, organisers are signalling a deliberate push to bridge creative recognition with tangible retail opportunities. For luxury and premium retailers, the event represents a scouting ground for new labels with distinctive aesthetic identities and authentic narratives—qualities increasingly valued by consumers seeking alternatives to homogenised global fashion. For designers, it is an entry point into a supply chain that can convert creative visibility into shelf space, collaborations, and licensing deals. With jury members drawn from publishing, design, retail, and sustainability, the Awards are positioning themselves less as a regional gala and more as an influential node in the global fashion economy, one capable of shaping trends, influencing buyer behaviour, and opening new routes to market for Latin American fashion.
