Toyota Revamps Corolla Cross for 2026: See What's Changed
Comparable compact SUVs in the 2026 Corolla Cross's segment include the Honda HR-V, the Hyundai Kona, the Chevrolet Trailblazer, and the Mazda CX-30. However, as of now, the Trailblazer is the only vehicle in this lot with 2026 specs on its manufacturer's site. While not yet fully released, the 2026 Trailblazer's specs highlight an 11-inch standard infotainment display topping the Corolla Cross' optional 10.5-inch touchscreen and an available set of larger 19-inch high-gloss Black machined-aluminum wheels. Still, you'll get better mileage with the 2026 Corolla Cross, which, unlike the Trailblazer, offers three true hybrid grades with up to a manufacturer-estimated combined 42 MPG. Hybrid 2026 Corolla Cross trims also have standard all-wheel drive (AWD) across all versions, a new bumper, and a net combined horsepower rating of 196. Toyota's three gas-powered 2026 Corolla Cross grades offer up to 32 combined MPG and are available in AWD or front-wheel drive (FWD).
The inside of the 2026 Corolla Cross has seen quite a few changes from the previous model year. The front console features a new design optimizing storage and a sleek Portobello interior color with the XLE trim. Unlike last year's version, Toyota offers the Cold Weather package with a heated steering wheel and heated front seats as standard within the XLE AWD and Hybrid XSE grades, but optional in the LE AWD and SE trims. This 2026 compact crossover SUV's hybrid grades include the S, SE, and XSE, while the internal combustion engine (ICE) variants come in L, LE, and XLE trims. The cabins of the L, LE, S, and SE interiors contain durable fabric-trimmed upholstery, while SofTex synthetic leather is in the XLE and XSE. The 10.5-inch infotainment display is standard within the XLE and XSE, but optional with the Multimedia Upgrade for the LE and SE. Otherwise, you'll receive an 8-inch touchscreen.
While the hybrid 2026 Corolla Cross grades produce 196 net combined horsepower, the gas-powered version delivers 169 horsepower. Those who want to move up from the standard six-speaker setup can opt for the nine-speaker JBL sound system, available on the XLE and XSE. All trims have standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which carries over from last year. Toyota reports that its 2026 Corolla Cross's TNGA-C platform gives the SUV handling akin to that of a car, further solidifying its crossover status. This car-like feel is primarily attributed to the chassis and available suspension types, such as sport-tuned suspension on hybrid grades.
Toyota brought meaningful updates to the new Corolla Cross, even if some are less noticeable. The most apparent changes are the revised front fascia with refreshed grilles, eye-popping exterior color, and fresh available wheel designs. Still, drivers will likely appreciate more subtle touches like the redesigned center console's emphasis on space. Whether you select the hybrid or ICE version, you'll receive quality fuel economy, but the hybrid better distinguishes itself in the increasingly crowded compact SUV segment with its more robust powertrain.

Here's What It Costs To Charge a Tesla Monthly vs Using Gas for a Toyota Tacoma
Electric vehicles (EVs) have gained a lot of traction over the years. According to Kelley Blue Book, American consumers purchased 1.3 million EVs in 2024 alone. Teslas are among the more popular EVs, but they're not the only option for cost-conscious shoppers. There's also the Toyota Tacoma, a budget-friendly, mid-sized pickup truck. For You: Explore Next: To help you decide between the two, GOBankingRates decided to compare them below to get a clearer idea of what they might cost each month. Also find out how tariffs could affect buying a Tesla. Monthly Cost Comparison Using data from EnergySage, here's the typical monthly charging cost of popular Tesla models: Tesla Model 3: 4 to 5 cents per mile ($11 to $15 for a full battery) Tesla Model S: 4 to 5 cents per mile ($18 for a full battery) Tesla Model X: 5 to 6 cents per mile ($18 for a full battery) Tesla Model Y: 4 to 5 cents per mile ($14 for a full battery) But what about the Toyota Tacoma? Other costs to consider include: Maintenance and repairs: According to CarEdge, a Toyota Tacoma costs about $699 annually in the first 10 years. Per Tesla, a Tesla costs between $257 and $748, depending on model. Tax credits: IRS said EVs may qualify for a federal tax credit up to $7,500. Gas-powered vehicles aren't eligible. Depreciation: CarEdge estimated a Tesla Model 3 will have a 59% five-year depreciation rate. This drops to around a 28% five-year depreciation rate for the Toyota Tacoma. Starting price: The starting MSRP for a Toyota Tacoma is $31,590, per Toyota's website. Including incentives, a Tesla Model Y starts at $37,490, per Tesla's website. Customize Your Monthly Costs Whether you're driving a Tesla or a Toyota, it doesn't hurt to know what the cost of ownership might be before you buy. You can use an interactive calculator (like this one from AAA) to calculate your expenses over time based on your driving habits. A calculator can give you a basic breakdown of typical fuel, maintenance and repair, insurance, depreciation and other costs. It can even give you a generalized cost-per-year and five-year total cost based on the year, make, model and miles driven. Toyota Is Making The Highlander Electric Because The Grand Highlander Is Too Popular
After the unbeatable RAV4, once again the best-selling vehicle in the world, Toyota's best-selling SUVs bear the name Highlander or Grand Highlander. But most buyers prefer the latter, larger option, and that's a bad look for the former. Indeed, Toyota has announced that it will consolidate production of EVs at its Georgetown, Kentucky, plant and add a new assembly line there to free up capacity for the Grand Highlander and meet demand. Previously, the Princeton, Indiana, plant was supposed to begin producing a new electric SUV, but according to Automotive News, the new EV will be built in Kentucky in 2028. This is important because the publication reports that this will be produced alongside a smaller three-row electric SUV, which will arrive as early as Q1 2026, and that's how the Highlander will step out of its big brother's shadow to forge its own identity. It didn't take Toyota too long to realize that its word soup naming strategy for EVs was confusing, and the bZ4X is now known simply as the bZ for 2026. Thus, the upcoming three-row EV that was supposed to be called bZ5X will likely be renamed, though to what is unclear. The Highlander name is reportedly reserved for the smaller, lighter electric three-row. As with all rumors, we should point out that Toyota hasn't confirmed exactly how it plans to name and market these EVs, only saying that it "plans to produce two all-new, three-row battery electric SUVs in the U.S.," adding that it will "now assemble both vehicles at Toyota Kentucky." Production of the one bearing the Highlander name is expected to begin earlier to allow it to reach dealer floors early in 2026. That means a reveal is highly likely before the end of this year. Related: 2026 Toyota Corolla Arrives With Updates-But Should You Buy the 2025 Instead? The new Highlander BEV will be one of seven new electric vehicles that Toyota is expected to launch in the U.S. by mid-2027, following the abovementioned bZ, bZ Woodland, and 2026 CH-R. But Toyota isn't putting all its eggs in one basket, with all-electric cars, mild-hybrids, and PHEVs to be offered for years to come. Evidence of this is seen in reports that the current Highlander will get a facelift not dissimilar from that of the latest Camry, and the Chinese market will reportedly get a PHEV version, and the HiLux that North America misses out on will be launched with a refresh soon. But the big nugget is that Toyota is reportedly working on a unibody pickup to rival the Ford Maverick. Reportedly based on the Corolla, this will offer a new hybrid option in the segment, but we'll have to be patient; the Corolla pickup is only expected to launch in North America sometime in 2027. Another interesting detail is that the GR Supra may continue to be built at the Magna Steyr plant in Austria beyond 2026, potentially with a new engine under the hood. Elsewhere, the Mirai hydrogen fuel-cell sedan will only get minor tweaks, and Automotive News says the following vehicles will all be refreshed over the next few years: bZCamryCorollaCorolla CrossCrownCrown SigniaGrand HighlanderGR CorollaGR86Prado (Lexus GX in the U.S.)PriusSequoiaSiennaTacomaTundra4Runner Copyright 2025 The Arena Group, Inc.
