Wichita Falls councilors make final decision on lake lots sale
After more than a year of setting the new lease rate and getting the land appraised, the city has made a decision on a potential sale.
Wichita Falls maintains drought restrictions amid lake levels
'We are not going to sell any lake lots at any price at any time in the foreseeable future,' Wichita Falls Mayor Tim Short said.
A sigh of relief for some Lake Arrowhead and Kickapoo neighbors, but frustrations remain high.
'I think it's very sad to up our leases and give us nothing in return,' Tina Jones said.
'At what point does it become [a] much [higher] priority for the city of Wichita Falls, not just a priority for lake residents?' a lake neighbor asked councilors.
A third-party appraiser returned samples of the lots at fair market value, but some said they were not fair and unaffordable.
'At $145,000, and I fell over,' one neighbor said. 'It's a great lot, but dang, you know, so not having to come up with that money is a relief.'
'I do not think the values are appropriate. You're creating a situation where the community has a destruction of community value.'
City Attorney Kinley Hegglund explains selling one or two lots doesn't make fiscal sense.
'To try to sell one or two or three lots in the middle of an unplanned and surveyed large parcel of land is problematic without getting the whole parcel of land surveyed. That would be in the neighborhood of 4 to $500,000 to do that,' Hegglund said.
Neighbors call for a bigger voice on the dias. Also, accusing the city of not keeping up with road conditions.
'Y'all can elect a member that says, hey, this is the representative that's going out and having the town halls at Lake Arrowhead or Lake Kickapoo.'
'The roads out there are or is in good shape or sometimes better than what we have, in the city limits. And I'm saying that as a general rule, not every road,' Assistant City Manager Paul Menzies said.
Mayor Tim Short reminds citizens he's a phone call away, making a call to action for neighbors to form a committee.
'If there are groups that want to meet you, let me know,' Short said. 'We'll be there,' Short said.
The council is making its final decision on the lake lots. It could be another five years before the issue is revisited to determine the lease rate.

Unusual Machines Secures $1.6 Million Order for Aura Cameras and HDO+ Goggles to Support U.S. Defense Supply Chain
ORLANDO, FLORIDA / ACCESS Newswire / August 19, 2025 / Unusual Machines, Inc. (NYSE American:UMAC), a provider of NDAA-compliant drone components, today announced a $1.6 million purchase of Fat Shark Aura cameras and HDO+ goggles placed by a domestic defense drone manufacturer. The components will be delivered through the U.S. defense supply chain, reinforcing Unusual Machines' role as a trusted supplier of compliant equipment. The Fat Shark Aura cameras are included in the Blue UAS Framework, confirming compliance with Department of Defense and NDAA standards. Production will begin immediately, with initial deliveries scheduled for the end of September and the remainder completed by December. "This order represents a milestone for Unusual Machines and, importantly, reflects the trust our customers place in us to deliver large quantities of critical components," said Allan Evans, CEO of Unusual Machines. "By keeping cash reserves strong, scaling inventory ahead of demand, and strengthening our supply chain for larger volumes, we can execute quickly and reliably. This mindset allows us to accelerate delivery, ensure dependability, and expand manufacturing so more drone capability is built in the United States." Today's announcement reflects the growing scale of opportunities for Unusual Machines. While this order will ship from existing production lines, the upcoming U.S.-based manufacturing facility for HDO+ goggles underscores the company's long-term strategy to onshore even more production, keep pace with government demand, and deliver the capacity needed for future growth.
