Lombard teen charged in alleged terror plot against Glendale Heights Islamic center
The DuPage County State's Attorney's Office announced on Friday that the 16-year-old boy appeared at a detention hearing, charged with one count of unlawful possession of a firearm and one count of attempted terrorism.
The judge ordered the teen to be held until at least his next court appearance.
A petition filed on July 4 alleged the teen entered the Islamic Education Center at 1269 Goodrich Avenue and "video recorded religious services to assist in preparation for detonating an explosive device at that location…".
The Petition further alleged that on July 12, the teen "possessed a handgun which was of a size that could be concealed upon his person."
He is due back in court on Aug. 4.

1 teen killed, 2 others wounded in Coachella shooting
One teenage boy was killed and two others were wounded during a shooting in Coachella on Saturday. It happened at around 3:45 a.m. at a home in the 49000 block of Corte Molino, according to a news release from the Riverside County Sheriff's Office. "Upon arrival, deputies discovered three adolescent males suffering from apparent gunshot wounds," the release said. One of the boys was declared dead at the scene. He has not yet been identified. The two other victims were taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition, deputies said. RSO homicide investigators assumed the investigation and have yet to determine a motive or identify a potential suspect in the incident. Person dies after being pulled from water near Burnham Harbor, police say
A person has died after being pulled from the water Saturday evening on the city's Near South Side. It happened around 7:14 p.m. in the 500 block of East Waldron Drive. Chicago police said the marine unit responded to the scene where they recovered the victim, only identified as a male, from the water. He was then taken to Northwestern Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity was not released. Police did not say how the victim ended up in the water. No arrests were made. This comes just hours after another body was recovered from the North Branch of the Chicago River in the 3000 block of West Argyle Street in River Park. Area detectives are investigating both incidents.

5 hurt in Chicago weekends shootings, police say
At least five people were hurt in weekend shootings across Chicago as of Saturday. The ages of the victims range from 18 to 60. In the first shooting of the weekend, a 30-year-old man self-transported to St. Bernard Hospital in fair condition after being shot in the inner thigh just before 10:30 p.m. in the 300 block of West 64th Street. Officers met with the victim at the hospital, who was uncooperative with providing information about the incident. Just before midnight, CPD officers responded to a call of a person shot in the 4300 block of West Adams Street, where they found a 19-year-old woman unresponsive. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the right cheek and to the right side of the neck and was taken to Mt Sinai Hospital in critical condition. Investigation indicated that she was shot inside a residence. Police said they've recovered a weapon, and a person of interest is in custody. In other shootings from 5 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday: Unless otherwise noted, no arrests were made in either incident. CBS News Chicago will continue to update throughout the weekend.
