It would seem, though, that this is exactly how viewers like it.
Our exclusive poll of readers found that just five per cent of you watch the show 'for love' — and the rest tune in for the 'drama'.
Some 51 per cent said they are drawn by explosive scenes, while 44 per cent said they want a mix.
And TV ratings suggest the show is enjoying a revival, with viewing figures surging back towards 2022 levels, when winners Ekin-Su Culculoglu and Davide Sanclimenti set our screens alight with drama.
An average 2.7million tune in to watch each Love Island episode, and the current series has reached 145million streams on ITVX.
So what drama has seen viewers fall back in love with the ITV2 dating show this series?
Explosive love triangles have kept fans on the edge of their seats, with gold trader and semi-pro footballer Harry Cooksley flip-flopping between two girls, Shakira Khan and Helena Ford.
Another footie star to play the field is Harrison Solomon, stringing along Toni Laites and Lauren Wood.
Meanwhile, personal trainer Dejon Williams continually pushed the boundaries with Meg Moore to flirt with other bombshells.
The girls were at it too, though, as Toni dabbled with Cach Mercer and Harrison, while Yasmin Pettet caught the attention of a number of the lads before she found Jamie Rhodes in Casa Amor.
And there was savage bullying among the girls, notably from Meg.
Some of the toxic behaviour prompted Women's Aid to raise concerns over the men 'lying, manipulating and covering for each other', branding it misogyny.
Many viewers complained about the show to Ofcom, including eight per cent of readers in our poll.
Some 29 per cent said they wanted to log a concern but didn't.
You exposed Harry as the villain of the series, with 32 per cent of the vote, followed by Meg on 22 and Harrison on 15 per cent.
An uptick in the amount of sex screened by producers also boosted the drama, with 22 per cent of readers saying the raunchy scenes made the show more interesting.

'Something real'
Some 27 per cent think Yasmin and Jamie will last on the outside.
Conor Phillips and Megan Clarke were axed during Friday's episode, then Meg and Dejon left last night.
Our poll was done while all five couples were still in the villa.
During their final dates of this series, Yasmin told Jamie: 'When I met you, the waters just seemed to calm', while Jamie confessed: 'I feel like this is something real.'

Love Island star caught snubbing finalist and ‘ignoring' her during live final – but did you spot it?
AN ex Love Islander appeared to brutally snub one of the show's finalists during the show's live episode. During the final, all of the former Islanders made one last comeback to the villa to watch the champion be crowned. 4 Love Island fans noticed that one ex Islander appeared to snub Yasmin Credit: Eroteme 4 Helena could be seen chatting away as she failed to listen to Yasmin's interview In a surprising result, fan-favourites Yasmin and Jamie found themselves finishing in third place being beaten by Shakira and Harry in second place and eventual winners, Toni and Cach. However, one former Islander appeared to totally dismiss Yasmin and Jamie as they could be seen chatting away throughout the couple's interview with host Maya Jama. Helena appeared distracted as she 'ignored' what Yasmin had to say and instead caught up with fourth place star Angel in full view of the cameras. Each time the shot focused on Maya, Helena could be seen speaking to her co-star as she failed to listen in to what Yasmin had to say. Noticing their antics online, one fan questioned: "What is Helena and Angel talking about." Before someone else echoed: "All I could see behind Maya was angel and Helena chatting away the whole time during yaz and Jamie's interview." It added further fuel to the fire about the long-standing girls divide this year. Helena had failed to see eye-to-eye with Yasmin, Shakira or Toni during her time in the villa as two rival girl groups quickly emerged. Along with Meg and Megan, Helena had clashes with the other three villa girls throughout but it seemed they had the last laugh when they made up the top three spots. After weeks of coupling up, dumpings, texts and triangles, the series came to a close with a battle between Toni & Cach, Shakira Khan & Harry Cooksley, Angel Swift & Ty Isherwood and Yasmin Pettet & Jamie Rhodes. Watch Love Island's Harrison roll his eyes and fake clap after ex Toni makes savage dig about him in live final However, it was the show's first American bombshell Toni and dancer Cach who got the most votes from fans after their rollercoaster journey on the show. Thrilled fans praised the result, with one saying: "I actually feel like I've won the World Cup. This is actually everything to me! "Seeing Megan and Dejon dumped, Angel fourth place, Yas, Shakira and Toni top 3, Toni and Cach win. Suddenly life is feeling real again." Someone else added: "Toni got the last laugh. A win and a nice man to take home. Bet Harrison is gutted. Karma is a b***h." Another added: "Toni being American and winning, iconic!!! And thank you Cach for being so amazing and loving. Well deserved." 4 Every time the camera cut to Maya she could be seen in deep conversation

When Maya Jama compared Majorca to Vegas, Toni remarked: "I get a lot more drinks and shed a lot less tears in Vegas." She also said her biggest lesson in the villa was: "Don't out up with sh**** men." Considering Harrison was in the audience in the garden, that was absolutely brutal. She added: "Got a few flights to catch but I'm sure we'll make it work." Toni also said that Cach told her that he loved her last night in the villa and she said it right back! She added: "We can be emotional together. And that's what I needed the whole time I have been in here." But Harrison wasn't too happy and appeared to roll his eyes and fake clap for the happy couple. But fans of the show were quick to notice how unhappy he really was. One wrote on social media: "THE WAY THE CAMERA WENT STRAIGHT TO HARRISON WHEN TONI MENTIONED SHITTY MEN LMAOOOOOO." Cash and Toni WIN Love Island and bag £50k as raunchiest ever series ends Another added: "Lauren and Harrison's faces when they found out Cach told Toni he loves her. "Are so ironic considering Harrison said he doesn't love Lauren on live yesterday MWAHAHAHAHAGAG." "You see Harrison and Lauren's faces drop when Toni admitted Cach said I love you and she told him she loved him too," asked another. While another said: "HARRISON'S FACE WHEN TONI SAID CACH SAID HE LOVED TONI FOLLOWED BY A BIG GULP OF HIS DRINK. "MAN DOES NOT WANT LAUREN, MAN STILL WANTS TONI HAHAHAHAHA NEVER." "Harrison and Lauren looking at each other and raising their eyebrows when Toni and Cach said he told her he loves her.. what a bitter couple," added another fan of the show. And another simply stated: "Harrison is jealous." But in the dramatic climax after two months on-screen, host Maya Jama told the loved up couple - Toni and Cach - they'll be taking home £50,000. Angel and Ty finished in fourth place, with the smitten couple saying they couldn't wait for their relationship to start in the outside world. In third place was Yas and Jamie who gushed about their romantic connection.
