Bold 3-Team Trade Idea Sends Kevin Durant To Preferred Destination
Bold 3-Team Trade Idea Sends Kevin Durant To Preferred Destination originally appeared on Fadeaway World.
Kevin Durant's next move could reshape the NBA again, and if Bleacher Report's Dan Favale has it right, the San Antonio Spurs might just pull off the boldest deal of the offseason. With Durant reportedly favoring the Spurs, Houston Rockets, and Miami Heat as his long-term destinations, Favale's proposed three-team blockbuster finds a way to get the 15-time All-Star exactly where he wants to go: San Antonio.

Charlotte Hornets Receive: 2025 No. 2 pick, 2026 second-round pick (via Spurs), 2028 Minnesota Timberwolves second-round pick (via Spurs)
Phoenix Suns Receive: Harrison Barnes (via Spurs), Keldon Johnson (via Spurs), Jeremy Sochan (via Spurs), Mark Williams (via Hornets), 2025 No. 14 pick, 2026 San Antonio Spurs first-round pick, 2027 first-round pick (via Hornets)
San Antonio Spurs Receive: Kevin Durant, 2025 No. 4 pick
The Spurs Get A Big 3 To Instantly Contend
This proposed deal gives all three franchises something meaningful. Most importantly, it delivers Durant to a team he's long admired, one loaded with young talent and structure, featuring generational prospect Victor Wembanyama and newly-acquired All-Star guard De'Aaron Fox.

Pairing Durant with Wemby and Fox would instantly elevate the Spurs into contender status, a dramatic acceleration of their rebuild.
According to The Athletic, there was mutual interest between KD and the Spurs even before this year's trade deadline. ESPN's Shams Charania has now confirmed that San Antonio remains on Durant's shortlist, alongside Miami and Houston. The Spurs have both the asset base and financial flexibility to construct a deal that keeps their future intact while adding Durant's veteran shot-making and playoff pedigree.
The beauty of this construction is balance. San Antonio keeps Devin Vassell and gives up the No. 2 pick, but they still retain the No. 4 pick, keeping them in the top tier of this draft class.
The Suns Can Now Retool With Young Talent
For Phoenix, this isn't the blockbuster haul that matches what they gave up for Durant (Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, four first-rounders), but it's a reasonable return for a 36-year-old on an expiring deal.
They receive two first-round picks, a lottery pick this year, and four solid rotation players—including a long-term center in Mark Williams and a versatile forward in Jeremy Sochan, while Keldon Johnson and Harrison Barnes offer immediate wing depth. Most importantly, they stay competitive around Devin Booker.
The Hornets Move Up In The Draft
Charlotte, meanwhile, sacrifices Mark Williams and the No. 4 pick but leapsfrogs into the No. 2 spot, presumably to take Rutgers star Dylan Harper. Pairing Harper with LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller gives the Hornets a tantalizing perimeter trio, even if the frontcourt takes a temporary hit.
Kevin Durant Gets His Wish, The Suns Get The Right Pieces, And The Hornets Can Land Another Young Star
Durant still holds significant power in this process, and his ability to sign a two-year, $122 million extension immediately after a trade gives him leverage.

But this deal could satisfy all sides: Phoenix reloads, Charlotte pivots toward a new future, and the Spurs land one of the greatest scorers of all time to pair with their next generational force.
If executed, this isn't just a win-now move for San Antonio—it could be the beginning of a modern-day dynasty.

Can Phoenix Suns land best deal and trade Kevin Durant to preferred destination?
The Dallas Mavericks were initially viewed as the team that didn't come close to getting enough from the Los Angeles Lakers for Luka Doncic in one of the biggest trades in NBA history. Anthony Davis is one of the game's best bigs, but he's 32 and has battled his share of injuries. He suffered a groin injury in his Mavs debut that sidelined him for six weeks. Advertisement Dallas only acquired one draft pick, a first-round selection in the 2029 draft and one more player in guard Max Christie, in the three-team deal. Good player, but Christie is not a game changer. Mavs GM Nico Harrison justified the trade by saying defense wins championships and Davis gives Dallas a stalwart defender. This may eventually prove to be the right move for the Mavs, but Harrison drew immediate and piercing criticism about the deal. At 26, Doncic is in his prime and a top-five NBA talent. A full season with LeBron James could result in a championship for the Lakers. Now, Phoenix Suns general manager Brian Gregory is looking to get all he can for Kevin Durant. Advertisement Even more accomplished than Doncic, Durant is a 15-time All-Star, a two-time finals MVP and still one of the game's best players at age 36. ESPN's Shams Charania reported Saturday, June 14, that the Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs and Miami Heat are Durant's preferred destinations as all three are committed to signing him to a two-year extension. While a trade seems imminent, the Suns are looking for the best possible haul in return that may involve a third team. Unlike the Doncic deal, the Suns are trying to strike a balance between finding an approved landing spot for Durant and getting the best deal possible. The two sides won't completely co-exist, but a league source informed The Republic this week that the team should always look out for its best interest even in a situation like this. Advertisement The Rockets, Spurs and Heat each have desirable assets whether it's players or draft picks — or both — but aren't so willing to part ways with them as part of a deal for Durant. Heat rookie big Kel'el Ware and one of the Spurs two lottery picks (2nd and 14th overall) should be part of Phoenix's wish list in a trade for Durant. The Rockets have young talent and draft capital, thus making them perhaps the ideal trade partner for the Suns. A hypothetical trade that works financially according to Spotrac is the Rockets landing Durant for Jalen Green, Jabari Smith Jr. and Jock Landale. Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo was initially viewed as the superstar player involved in offseason trade talks after the Bucks suffered another early playoff exit. Those talks cooled, shifting the attention to Durant. Advertisement The spotlight isn't just on him, though. There's Gregory. The Suns won just 36 games and missed the playoffs for the first time since the 2019-20 season. Team owner Mat Ishbia fired Mike Budenholzer as head coach within a year of hiring him, elevated Gregory from vice president of player programming to general manager and shifted James Jones to senior adviser. Jones' contract expires at the end of this month. Gregory led the head coaching search that ended with the hiring of Cleveland Cavaliers assistant Jordan Ott. The 40-year-old is deemed ready to be an NBA head coach, but he's never been one. Now, Gregory finds himself part of an even bigger decision that'll be instantly judged. Advertisement Ishbia said after firing Budenholzer that he'd be more involved in the Suns' basketball decisions, but the billionaire also entrusted Gregory to run the team with CEO Josh Bartelstein. All three won't have to look far over the horizon to see the incoming praise or criticism — or both — for trading Durant and what they do and don't get in return. Dodgers Reportedly ‘Lurking' on $56 Million Cy Young Ace
Dodgers Reportedly 'Lurking' on $56 Million Cy Young Ace originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Despite being in first place for most of the 2025 season, the Los Angeles Dodgers appear to have inefficiencies. Their starting pitching, decimated by injuries, ranks in the bottom half of baseball when it comes to innings and ERA. Advertisement Although there have been positive reports about Cy Young award winner Blake Snell and All-Star Tyler Glasnow's recoveries, there is no set timetable for their return. Even Shohei Ohtani is not expected to pitch until after the All-Star break. With their rotation compromised and the San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres hot on their tail, Los Angeles is primed to be an aggressive shopper at the MLB trade deadline. One of the top arms expected to be available is Miami Marlins ace Sandy Alcantara. Despite a rough start, 8.47 ERA in his first 11 starts, the former Cy Young award winner is rounding into form at the right time. His fastball velocity is reaching above 97 mph again, and the command of his off-pitching is returning. Over his last two starts, Alcantara is touting a 1.50 ERA and 10 strikeouts across 12 innings of work. The re-establishment of Alcantara atop the trade market is an interesting development, and the reigning World Series champions are one of the team's 'lurking,' according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today. Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara (22) delivers a pitch to the Pittsburgh Pirates during the first inning PNC Park. Philip G. Pavely-Imagn Images Nightengale believes the Dodgers and their fourth-ranked farm system, according to are one of the best teams positioned to make a run at Alcantara. With six top-100 prospects and the pressing need for reliable starters, Los Angeles could very well be the most aggressive team in the Alcantara sweepstakes. Advertisement Alcantara is currently in the third year of a five-year, $56 million contract signed through the 2026 season with a club option for 2027. According to the Dodgers would be responsible for an approximate total of $46.5 million over the next three seasons should they choose to exercise his option. Alcantara may never consistently regain his Cy Young form, and his last two starts could be outliers. But the Dodgers need another reliable starting pitcher who can toe the rubber every fifth day, and on his best day, Alcantara fits the bill better than anyone.
