A 32-year-old man from Guddemol, Sanvordem, who was missing for over a week, was found murdered in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. Sameer Shaikh was discovered dead after his family reported him missing on June 3.
Police said that his body was found wrapped in clothing at a place in Ghaziabad.
Shaikh's sister said he was working with an NGO in Pune and returned home on May 25 for the Eid. 'He was supposed to return to work after Eid, but he cut his visit short. He told us he was called for an urgent meeting in Delhi and left Goa on May 30,' she said.
The family members approached the police after he failed to answer their calls and did not report back to his workplace as scheduled. Acting on information from his last known mobile phone location, Curchorem police were able to trace Shaikh's whereabouts to Ghaziabad, from where his body was recovered.

Mumbai: A goldsmith from Grant Road was killed in a road accident on Independence Day while travelling on his scooter with his 15-year-old son, who was riding pillion, on Friday morning. The incident occurred when Mohammed Shaikh (42) was returning home from Chembur when his bike was hit by a speeding tempo upon reaching the BPCL plant near Sewri at 8.30 am. The Wadala police booked the tempo driver, Aziz Khan (24), who surrendered himself after the incident. The accident was witnessed by the deceased's son, Rihan Shaikh, who saw the tempo collide with their scooter, throwing both father and son onto the road. "After the incident the tempo's tyre was on Shaikh's body. Khan has been booked for death due to negligence and for rash and negligent driving. He was served notice and was later let go. Shaikh was declared dead before admission in the hospital," said a police officer of the Wadala police station. The case was registered by Police Constable Suraj Gujjar (47), attached to the Wadala police station, who was on his way to the station to attend the flag hoisting ceremony. Gujjar said he stopped at the location upon noticing a large crowd and became aware of the accident. "The boy was found at the spot while his father was run over by the tempo after it hit their scooter. We managed to remove Shaikh from below the tempo tyre and, along with the boy, rushed to the hospital. Shaikh was declared dead at 9.30 am." MUMBAI: A 21-year-old pregnant Bangladeshi woman, who had been arrested for illegally staying in India, fled on August 14 from the JJ Hospital's Warn No. 10 where she had been taken for treatment. On January 13, the Vashi police had booked her, her mother, her two sisters, and her brother for living illegally in India. According to the police, they arrested Shaikh's mother and found out that she was a Bangladeshi national who had gotten married to a man from Jharkhand in 1998. On August 7, the police arrested Shaikh too, for continuing to live illegally in India. She was held at the Byculla women's prison, but when she began feeling unwell and developed a fever and a cold, the police admitted her to the JJ Hospital on August 11, from where she soon fled. The police said that they are in touch with the Vashi police and have sent out teams to look for her. Another case has been registered against Shaikh under section 262 The offence has been registered under sections 262 (resistance or obstruction by a person to his lawful arrest) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
