Imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery, but not for Bobby Brown.
During an April 16 appearance on Shannon Sharpe's podcast Club Shay Shay, the rapper revealed that he did not like Britney Spears' cover of his 1988 song "My Prerogative."
Sharpe, 56, asked Brown, 56 what artist did the best job sampling his music. "I don't think they did justice," Brown began. "I don't think they really did justice to any of the samples that they have done to my songs."
"Britney Spears butchered 'My Prerogative,' " Brown continued. "Teddy Riley produced it. But that was a butchering. I couldn't take it."
Sharpe argued that Brown had cleared it, to which the singer countered that he cleared it because he thought Spears, 43, was going to "wow" him.

A music industry source tells PEOPLE of Brown's recent comments, "He's looking for press, but that's his prerogative."
PEOPLE has reached out to Spears for comment.
Fans online disagreed with Brown's take on Spears' cover of the song, defending Spears' synth-heavy sampling of the contemporary R&B song.
"Bobby Brown really said Britney Spears butchered Prerogative despite him clearing the song. I DISAGREE WHOLEHEARTEDLY," one fan wrote on X.
Another said, "Listen, I get it. I would also be mad if someone did a cover of my song and did it so much better than I did that everyone thought my song was theirs 🤷‍♂️."

One user attributed their knowledge of the song being from Spears. "I personally only ever knew Bobby Brown's My Prerogative because of Britney's cover, and my parents played a s--- of ton of 80s while I was growing up …" Others agreed.
"Ngl Britney Spears' version was so fire most didn't realize it was a cover 🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️," another fan said.
Ultimately, many Spears fans defended her take on the song. "Bobby Brown can say all the crap he wants. But Britney left no crumbs when it came to her cover of My Prerogative. I prefer her version over his original version," someone else posted.

Spears has previously put her spin on other musicians' songs, adding her distinctive flair. She covered Sonny and Cher's song "The Beat Goes On," along with The Rolling Stones' "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" and Joan Jett & The Blackhearts' "I Love Rock 'n' Roll."
Most recently in 2022, she collaborated with Elton John on the song "Hold Me Closer," which features the chorus of his classic "Tiny Dancer."

Denise Richards Files to Vacate Aaron Phypers and Family from Home, Claims They're Being Evicted After He Failed to Pay Rent

The Aug. 19 filing comes after police responded to an incident at the Calabasas home earlier this month NEED TO KNOW Denise Richards filed new court documents on Tuesday, Aug. 19, asking a judge to order her ex Aaron Phypers and his family to vacate her Calabasas home She claims that they are being evicted after Phypers stopped paying rent and she needs to retrieve her property and her dogs Richards previously accused Phypers, who filed for divorce in July, of physical abuse and obtained a temporary restraining order against him Denise Richards is making another attempt to access the home she shared with her estranged husband, Aaron Phypers, amid their messy divorce. According to documents obtained by PEOPLE, the actress, 54, is requesting that the court order Phypers, 52, and his family to vacate her Calabasas property, which he currently resides in with his parents and brother, so she can retrieve her dogs and belongings without violating the temporary restraining order they have in place. Richards claims that, although she and Phypers are both named on the lease, she moved out two years ago under the guise that his family would only be living there temporarily. The Wild Things star further claims that she told Phypers he would be solely responsible for the rent in January when they were still occupying the house, and that she was allegedly told 'several times' they would be leaving. PEOPLE has reached out to Phypers' rep for comment. Richards claims she was notified on July 24 that eviction proceedings would begin on Aug. 23. Per the filing, the landlord informed Richards that he has made several attempts to contact Phypers due to unpaid rent but has been unable to reach him, resulting in an eviction. 'I left many of my personal items and my late mother's items at the house based on Aaron telling me that his family would be moving back to Canada and we would be moving back into the [property],' she alleges in the complaint. 'If I am not able to [retrieve] my dogs and belongings, I believe my dogs will be harmed and my property destroyed or discarded during the eviction process.' The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum further alleges that 'Aaron and his parents and brother have severely damaged' the home, leaving it 'in a state of disarray.' Images attached as evidence reveal patches of removed flooring, as well as several boxes, articles of clothing and papers scattered throughout the rooms. 'I was shocked at the condition of the home, having not lived there for over two years,' Richards wrote in the docs. Richards, who has a restraining order against Phypers amid allegations of domestic violence, also referred to the Aug. 3 incident in which the police were called to the Calabasas property. PEOPLE previously reported that Richards went to the house — allegedly under the impression that Phypers was not there — so she could 'retrieve her dogs after learning that Mr. Phypers had put down one of her other dogs without her knowledge or permission,' her attorney said at the time. A source close to Phypers previously told PEOPLE this is '100 percent, absolutely false,' and went on to allege that Richards was screaming and banging on the door of the home to get inside. When Phypers heard her, he left through a side door, the source said. Phypers told PEOPLE that he put the dog down because she had cancer and alleged that 'Denise hasn't interacted with the animals in two years.' However, she claims in the recent filing that she only temporarily left the dogs there in May when she was getting surgery. The Lost Hills Sheriff's Department stated at the time that they 'did not have any evidence that a crime occurred," but PEOPLE confirmed that Phypers was on the property when Richards stopped by. In her latest request, Richards offers an explanation for the incident. 'While I was attempting to leave the [property], Aaron's brother blocked me from leaving and placed blocks under the tire[s] of my vehicle so that I could not move my car,' she alleges in the papers. 'Aaron's mother let me in the house and then Aaron's parents interfered with me trying to leave the [property]. Aaron's mother called Aaron and told him to come back to the [property] while I was there, which would have been a violation of the TRO.' She also claims she has made multiple attempts to resolve the matter without court intervention. Richards states that she "will have no way of retrieving my dogs and belongings in a safe manner that ensures Aaron and his family do not come near me or harm me' without a court order. Additionally, Richards asks that there be 'no recording or listening devices in or around' the property when she is there. Never miss a story — sign up for to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories. Phypers filed for divorce from Richards in July following six years of marriage. The following week, she claimed that he 'repeatedly abused" her throughout their relationship, which he has denied. "Aaron would frequently violently choke me, violently squeeze my head with both hands, tightly squeeze my arms, violently slap me in my face and head, aggressively slam my head into the bathroom towel rack, threaten to kill me, hold me down with his knee on my back to the point where I would have to plead with him to get off me so that he would not kill me and hack into my laptop and phone and download all of my text messages," Richards alleged in court documents obtained by PEOPLE. 'Aaron regularly threatened to 'break my jaw' and would cry, beg me to stay, and promise to get help — none of which ever happened,' she continued, adding that Phypers allegedly 'has caused me at least three concussions.' For his part, Phypers said of the claims: "Let me be unequivocally clear: I have never physically or emotionally abused Denise — or anyone. These accusations are completely false and deeply hurtful. Denise and I, like many couples, have faced our share of challenges, but any suggestion of abuse is categorically untrue." Read the original article on People Solve the daily Crossword

Nickelodeon Star Reveals Alleged Maternal Abuse

True Jackson V.P. actor Ashley Argota Torres is opening up about the alleged "physical, emotional, and financial abuse" she faced from her mother while filming the show, and shortly after. During a recent interview with People, the former Nickelodeon child star spoke candidly about struggling behind the scenes, detailing the way her mother allegedly tried to control her every move. "I'm a mom now, so I feel like I have a new perspective and a new outlook on everything," said Ashley, who shares 13-month-old son Michael with husband Mick Torres. "I would never do to my son what my mom did to me." Ashley said her mom's abuse took a new turn when she started filming the popular 2008 teen series, especially when she began to make friends with cast members and others in the industry. "I was starting to make friends and getting close to my cast, so I think she felt her control and her manipulation starting to slip." If she got invited to birthday parties or to hang out with friends, she claims her mother would insist on going with her or waiting in the car. Ashley claims her mother would also frequently criticize her physical appearance: "I would have to sit there and pinch the bridge of my nose all the time because she was like, 'Your nose is too flat, so you need to pinch your nose to make sure it's not flat.'" Ashley recalled earning "a lot of money" from True Jackson V.P., but she claims she never knew how much money she actually made because her mother had full and total control of her finances, including her Coogan account (an account specifically created to protect child performers' earnings). "No matter how much was put away in my Coogan account, she would've spent it. I don't know where that Coogan money went. I was 15, so I totally trusted her with all of the finances. She would say, 'All right, this is the bill, and this is how much you're going to input into the computer, and this is what we're going to pay,' but I never knew how much was on my accounts." As her time on the show came to an end, Ashley got accepted into NYU. She remembered having to sign up for a dorm assignment in secret because her mother told her she could only live at home or with family. Her time at college was the "greatest thing ever" for her because even though her mother would constantly check in, she felt relieved knowing her mom wasn't physically around. But while she was at NYU, Ashley claims her mother decided to buy a new home in LA using Ashley's money. "I just got this video of her with the key to the new house," she said. Then when she returned home during break after her first year in school, she received a letter from her mom saying they couldn't afford to send her back for her sophomore year. "She wrote me a letter that she left in my room that said, 'We don't have enough money. You're not going back to school. You're going to stay home.' We never spoke about it again." But it didn't stop there. There was also an alleged incident that involved Ashley's mom going through her text messages while Ashley was in the shower. Her mom read texts she'd been sending to a co-star she went on a date with from the Romeo & Juliet: Love Is A Battlefield cast. Ashley claims her mother then made her strip, so she could examine her body. "When I got home, she told me to come to her room, and I did, and she asked me to take off the cardigan I was wearing," Ashley added. "I said, 'Why?' She said, 'Because I need to see what he did to you.' I was like, 'Whoa, what? I just went to the movies with him.'" "Then she kept telling me to take off the tank top," she claims. "I was like, 'I'm not going to do that.' She was like, 'You have to quit the show.' I said, 'I'm not going to quit the show. It's not going to happen.' "Out of nowhere, she lunged for me," she continued. "She choked me, she attacked me. It gave me a vocal node, because she had come at me so aggressively. I'd never had a vocal problem in my life until that happened. In that moment I was like, 'I don't know if having a relationship with her is the right thing anymore.'" Ashley left her family home at age 22 and never looked back. Although she revealed she's heard from her mom several times, "usually when something is going well in my life," her mom has not met her son or husband, and she plans to continue "no contact" moving forward. "In addition to blocking my mom, I've had to block my brother's number as well, because she takes his phone," Ashley added. "It's difficult, and I wish things were different there. I hope one day we can have a relationship. I feel like he was caught in the crossfire, and he doesn't deserve that." "My life is so enriched by all of my chosen family. I have so many people around me who really do show us unconditional love. Motherhood has been so healing for me. I mean, down to the features that Michael has of mine, like my nose, I'm like, 'Man, you're so cute. Why did she ever tell me to pinch my nose?'" Paris Hilton Kids Show Features Real-Life Pets and Original Song

Good news for fans of kids' TV shows. Paris Hilton is set to release a new animated series about a girl called Paris and her puppies, aptly titled Paris & Pups. The trailer was released today, and it's exactly what you'd expect. Check it out below. Paris & Pups drops on YouTube in September, from Paris Hilton It's safe to assume that it's no rags to riches story. The show follows the adventures of Paris Star, a 12-year-old girl who lives in the penthouse of the 'The Fabuluxe Hotel' with her five canine friends. Unsurprisingly, it draws its inspiration from Paris' own life. But as they say, stick to what you know. Indeed, Paris' own net worth is estimated to be around $300 million. The Hilton family (including mom Kathy Hilton) are worth over $14 billion dollars. 'I'm beyond excited to finally share Paris & Pups with the world. The series is set in a glamorous hotel full of sparkle, adventure and heart — a place that feels like home to me after growing up in hotels and making them my playground,' said Paris (via People), who also recorded the show's theme song. Paris and Pups is being produced by Paris' own media company, 11:11 Media, in partnership with 9 Story Media Group and HappyNest Entertainment. A cutesy kids' show seems like a bit of an unlikely move for Paris. Could it be that motherhood has softened the famously hard-edged star? She and husband Carter Reum welcomed two children via surrogacy in 2023. Paris paid tribute to her little ones in an Instagram post earlier this year, saying 'They've shown me a whole new kind of happiness and have taught me more about myself than I ever could have imagined. I feel so lucky to be their mama.' If you want to check the show out (choices!), the first four episodes arrive on YouTube on September 23.
