Dad stabs intruder to death after being beaten with crowbar by masked gang inside his home
A DAD-of-two stabbed an armed intruder to death after being battered with a crowbar by a gang of masked thugs in his own home. The shocking attack happened in Selby, North Yorkshire, when six balaclava-clad thugs burst into the family's house while the man, his partner and their two young children were inside. 5 5 5 The father, who has not been named, was punched and struck with a crowbar before he managed to grab one of the gang. In the struggle he stabbed the intruder while trying to protect his terrified family. The other five men fled in a getaway car, leaving their injured accomplice behind. The homeowner immediately called 999 and desperately tried to save the man's life. But despite the efforts of paramedics, the intruder died at the scene. A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: 'Armed with weapons, they wore dark clothing and balaclavas to barge into a house in Selby. "A couple were inside with their two young children when the men entered the home, in March 2022. 'They beat the man with a crowbar and punched him repeatedly. "But the man fought back to defend himself, taking a knife during the struggle and stabbing one of the intruders - a sixth man from the gang.' A major manhunt was launched and all five surviving attackers were tracked down within 48 hours. They were later jailed for a combined total of 70 years for aggravated burglary. The men jailed were named as Alan James Hall, 34, of Selby; Daniel Welford, 32, of Pontefract; Max Jackson, 33, of York; Kallan Hunt, 35, of no fixed address; and Andrew Richardson, 38, of Doncaster. The court heard that while some denied involvement, forensic evidence, CCTV and witness statements tied them all to the violent raid. Earlier this month, Jackson and Welford were sentenced to 13 years each. Richardson and Hall were handed 11 years and 4 months. Hunt was deemed a dangerous offender and jailed for 19 years, with a further five years on extended licence. The homeowner faced no charges after police confirmed he acted in self-defence. Detective Sergeant Jon Kenworthy of North Yorkshire Police said: 'This was a pre-meditated, violent and distressing attack on the victims, who were home with two very young children. "Violent acts of this nature committed on North Yorkshire communities are rare but will not go unpunished. 'Ultimately this has turned into a fatal incident for one of the perpetrators. "Any loss of life is a tragedy to the family and the full circumstances of his death have been impartially and diligently investigated.' 5 5

Hotels braced for a wave of protests: Up to 30 targeted as residents turn up heat to follow Epping precedent
A wave of protests are set to sweep the country this weekend targeting migrant hotels. Anti-immigration campaigners are looking to ride on the back of this week's landmark judgment that saw the High Court order the removal of migrants from a hotel in Epping, Essex. Protests at up to 30 hotels are believed to be planned as communities seek to replicate the ruling for The Bell Hotel, which, pending an appeal, must be closed within weeks. The hotel had been at the centre of protests after an asylum seeker living there was charged with sexually assaulting a teenage girl, which he denies. Hotels in Cannock, Chichester and Tamworth are among those expected to be targeted by demonstrations, with anti-racism groups already organising counter-protests in 15 locations across the three-day Bank Holiday weekend. They are prepared to turn up tonight in the likes of Bournemouth, Portsmouth, Leicester, Leeds, Orpington, Perth, Aberdeen and Altrincham. Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has used Epping as a rallying cry, saying: 'Let's hold peaceful protests outside hotels and put pressure on councils to go to court to try to get illegal immigrants out.' On Tuesday, a judge granted a temporary injunction against migrants being housed at The Bell Hotel after Epping Forest council argued that it was necessary for 'the safety of nearby residents' and to reduce the threat of 'violent protests'. As it tried, unsuccessfully, to intervene in the case at the eleventh hour, the Home Office argued that granting Epping's application 'runs the risk of acting as an impetus for further violent protests'. The ruling threatens to collapse Labour's asylum system as protesters take to the streets and councils across the country prepare to hit the Home Office with copycat litigation over the use of hotels in their areas. Tory leader Kemi Badenoch has written to all Conservative councils pledging support for any legal action, while Reform UK's leaders have encouraged people to protest at their local asylum hotels. But anti-racism groups have warned the ruling sets a 'dangerous precedent', with Stand Up To Racism saying that it will 'embolden the far-Right to call more protests outside hotels housing refugees'. Labour grandee Lord Falconer urged the Home Office to appeal against the Epping judgment on Thursday as he admitted the ruling 'causes great problems' for the Government. The peer, who served as justice secretary under Sir Tony Blair and as Sir Keir Starmer's shadow attorney general, said it 'gives rise to the expectation that some asylum hotels can be closed'. Lord Falconer said the ruling presents Labour with a 'very troublesome issue, namely does demonstrations outside these hotels lead to it being more likely that they will be closed'. Urging the Government 'very strongly' to appeal, he told Radio 4's Today programme: 'It puts the courts and the politicians in a difficult position. 'There should be clarity on that and the authority in relation to that can only come from the Court of Appeal.' The Home Office still could not say whether or not it plans to appeal on Thursday. But pressure was mounting on the Government as all Tory councillors were sent a draft motion, produced by the Conservative Research Department and the Conservative Councillors' Association, 'strongly urging' them to follow Epping's example. It included instructions on how to influence their local authorities. Stevenage became the latest Labour-run council to say it would consider taking legal action over an asylum hotel in the Hertfordshire borough as the internal revolt grew. The council had already warned a Novotel hotel it must stop housing asylum seekers or face planning enforcement action, and on Thursday said it was 'actively investigating alleged breaches' as it considered legal action similar to Epping's. Ministers were scrambling to find contingency plans to house migrants, with officials looking at houses in multiple occupation (HMOs), empty tower blocks, disused teacher training colleges and old student accommodation as alternatives. The asylum minister, Dame Angela Eagle, told the Commons home affairs committee in June that the Government had shifted its focus from old military barracks to smaller locations such as tower blocks. However, the Guardian reported officials are still considering placing people removed from hotels in the RAF Wethersfield base in Essex and Napier Barracks in Kent. Meanwhile, it was also reported that asylum accommodation contractors working for the Home Office have contacted property specialists, seeking 5,000 residential units in towns and cities to house migrants. But a Government minister could not answer when quizzed on where asylum seekers should go instead of hotels on Thursday. Asked 'where will they go?', schools minister Catherine McKinnell said: 'Well, I mean, that's a big question.'

Shocking moment huge ‘Wild West' brawl erupts in middle of street before machete-wielding thug tries to stab two men
THIS is the horrifying moment a thug pulled out a machete during a mass brawl in the middle of a residential street. The brawl broke out on Showell Green Lane in Sparkhill, Birmingham at around 7.30pm on August 13. 7 7 7 7 One of the men involved in the fight is wielding a machete, which he uses to try and stab two of the men. He can be seen in the video wearing a grey sweatshirt and black track suit bottoms. Several men are forcefully pushed into cars lining the residential street. The man rushes into the fight, knife drawn, as he tries to slash at a man wearing a white vest. It appears to strike him on the back before the assailant walks away from the brawl. As a group of men tumble to the ground during the fight, the knife-wielding thug can be seen standing near the bus stop. He begins waving the knife in the air as the fight escalates. Once some of the men get up from the ground and start walking away, the man with the knife rushes towards the two still struggling. Another man intervenes, moving him to the other side of the road as the fight breaks apart. A backlog of cars has piled up as the mass brawl blocks the road. Wild video shows brawl on Carnival Cruise ship as passengers throw punches in row over 'chicken tenders' Others motorists were forced to swerve around the men, with blaring horns heard in the video. The cause of the fight is currently unknown after it broke out in a garden, with other men brawling in the road. Thankfully, nobody was seriously injured despite attempts by the man wielding the weapon. One unnamed witness said: "It was like a Wild West saloon brawl, there were bodies everywhere as the men rolled around the ground fighting." They said that the men had been "talking in a quite animated way" before the fight broke out. "From then on it was just carnage. All hell broke loose. There were fights breaking out all over the place." They added that the area is mostly populated by families, and that fighting like this is "pretty shameful". Although the witness didn't see the weapon during the fight, he said after seeing the video: "It's frightening to think that there are morons like this walking around with weapons - he could easily have killed someone or caused them serious injury." 7 7 Another resident said that they were afraid to go out at night because of how dangerous the streets have become. Witnesses in the video can be heard criticising the group. One can be heard saying "Take the beef home" while another adds "F***ing stupid". The fight ends just as quickly as it began, with most of the men driving away. Following the brawl, a West Midlands Police spokesperson said that four men, aged 23, 22, and two aged 20, had been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder. They have since been bailed with strict conditions while enquiries continue. Police have asked witnesses to come forward. Anyone with information should contact 101 quoting crime number 20/342846/25. Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111. West Midlands Police have also increased patrols in the area.
