Lingayat and Vokkaliga leaders back new SES but plan own digital census over accuracy concerns
While they support the government's initiative, both community leaders have expressed concerns about the possibility of under-representation. They plan to counter any discrepancies in the official data with their own figures.
Akhila Bharata Veerashaiva Mahasabha secretary H M Renuka Prasanna told TNIE that software is being developed to facilitate their independent survey. 'In every village, individuals will be covered and data will be uploaded to our website. The Mahasabha units at the village level will be equipped to upload regular updates on the birth and death of community members,' he said. A meeting will soon be convened under the chairmanship of Mahasabha president Shamanuru Shivashankarappa to discuss the initiative further.
Similarly, State Vokkaligara Sangha president B Kenchappa Gowda announced that the Sangha would conduct a digital census under the guidance of Adichunchanagiri Mutt head, Dr Sri Nirmalanandanath Swamiji.
'We will oppose any inaccuracies in the caste census being conducted by the state government. It must be scientific to ensure communities receive the entitlements they deserve. If the data is scientifically gathered, we will accept the findings even if the numbers vary,' he stated. He also congratulated Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar for initiating the new survey.

1 2 Aizawl: BJP MLA K Hrahmo on Monday predicted that Mizo National Front (MNF), though a part of NDA , may soon leave the BJP-led alliance as the regional party is in NDA only in name. Hrahmo's prediction comes four days after ruling Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) Lok Sabha member Richard Vanlalhmangaiha attended the meeting of the NDA floor leaders in Delhi. Sources in ZPM said Vanlalhmangaiha attended the NDA floor leaders' meeting on Aug 7 at the invitation of parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju which triggered speculations that ZPM is joining the NDA bloc. Hrahmo, while addressing party workers at 'Mipuite Run' (Atal Bhavan) in Aizawl, said though MNF party is in NDA, it has been reluctant to be close to the saffron party and distances itself from the alliance. He attributed the financial crisis during the MNF rule to the party's lukewarm relationship with the Centre, saying that the previous MNF administration failed to distribute Rs 3 lakh each to selected beneficiaries under its flagship programme — the Socio-Economic Development Programme — due to acute fiscal crunch. The BJP legislator also said the present govt is also facing the same problems as ZPM refused to join NDA when the BJP leadership at the Centre invited them. STFI elects new committee, charts nationwide protest plan
Hyderabad/Kolkata: After the three-day All India Silver Assembly of the School Teachers Federation of India (STFI), held in Kolkata on Sunday, a new national committee has been elected. The elections, conducted on the final day, selected 87 General Council members, 45 Central Committee members and 23 Office Bearers. CN Bharti from Haryana was chosen as President, while Chava Ravi from Telangana was elected General Secretary. From Telangana, CH Durga Bhawani joined the Central Committee as the female representative, alongside Venkat and R. Sarada. They, along with all elected members, will serve for a three-year term. Chava Ravi, a veteran of the national teachers' movement, also continues his role as General Secretary of the Telangana State United Teachers Federation (TSUTF). The TSUTF State Committee includes State President A. Venkat, Vice Presidents CH Durga Bhawani, Treasurer T. Lakshmareddy, and Secretaries Shanti Kumari, Nagamani, Raju, Ranjit Kumar, Satyanand, Mallareddy, Sridhar, Ravi Prasad Goud, Ravikumar, Simhachalam, Jnana Manjari, and Venkatappa. During the Mahasabha, participants unanimously passed 21 resolutions aimed at improving teachers' rights, employment conditions, and educational policy. Key resolutions include: abolition of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) and restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS), repeal of the PFRDA Act, increasing the income tax exemption limit to reduce the burden on salaried employees, and scrapping the National Education Policy 2020 along with the alternative national education system. Other resolutions called for allocating 6% of GDP and 10% of the central budget to education, granting primary teachers voting rights in MLC elections, ensuring equal pay for contract teachers, regularisation of contract, guest and outsourced teachers, restricting teachers to teaching duties only, and replacing teachers regularly in postings. To press for these demands, the STFI announced a four-phase nationwide protest program running from September to December. The agitation will begin with dharnas at zonal centres, followed by district-level dharnas, and culminate with a major protest in the national capital at Jantar Mantar, Delhi. In a joint statement, STFI National Secretary and TSUTF leaders Chava Ravi and A. Venkat appealed to teachers across Telangana to participate in large numbers in the upcoming agitation, stressing the urgency of confronting the challenges facing the education sector and securing teachers' rights.

Telangana aims for global manufacturing hub with Toshiba plant expansion
SANGAREDDY: Laying the foundation stone for the Rs 177 crore expansion of Toshiba's Extra High Voltage Transformer plant, Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu on Friday said the state government was working strategically to position Telangana as a global manufacturing hub. The minister inaugurated two manufacturing facilities—the CRGO Core Processing Centre (Rs 65 crore) and the Surge Arrester Unit (Rs 105 crore)—at the premises of Toshiba Transmission & Distribution Systems India Pvt Ltd in Rudraram, Sangareddy district. The total investment amounts to Rs 347 crore. He said Telangana is expected to record an industrial output of Rs 2.77 lakh crore in 2024–25, with nearly 48% from manufacturing. TG to launch R&D hub with Toshiba: Sridhar 'Within nine months, the state has logged merchandise exports worth Rs 1 lakh crore. Our GSDP growth rate is 8.2%, above the national average,' Sridhar Babu said. Citing the Economic Survey 2024–25, which projects a doubling of India's electricity demand by 2040, the minister said the state has introduced the Clean & Green Energy Policy 2025 and has so far attracted investments worth Rs 29,000 crore in the renewable sector. He also said exclusive green energy equipment zones were being established to attract firms like Toshiba to invest in areas such as battery manufacturing. An R&D hub for smart energy solutions will also be launched in partnership with Toshiba. Sridhar criticised what he described as 'deliberate misinformation' about the state's investment MoUs. 'Today, it is Toshiba—not us—responding to such criticism,' he said. In April, the state government signed an MoU with Toshiba for investments worth Rs 562 crore.
