Texas A&M baseball lands commitment from elite Maryland Terrapin Shortstop
Texas A&M baseball coach Michael Earley just scored a massive win in the transfer portal, landing one of the top bats in college baseball. Late Thursday night, he secured a commitment from Maryland shortstop transfer Chris Hacopian after two standout seasons in the Big Ten.
Hacopian fills an immediate need in the lineup, especially with Aggie career home run leader Jace LaViolette and Kaeden Kent likely heading to the 2025 MLB Draft. A former All-Big Ten selection, he brings solid defensive skills and a proven offensive presence. Under new infield coach Cliff Pennington, Hacopian is expected to take the next step forward in his junior season at Texas A&M.
During his time at Maryland, he compiled an impressive career slash line of .347/.465/.614 with 29 home runs, 103 RBIs, and a 1.080 OPS, while only striking out a total of 19 times. Pairing him with Caden Sorrell and Gavin Grahovac gives the Aggies a powerful trio—if they can put it all together, they'll be a formidable offensive force.

The 6-foot-3, 185-pounder is dangerous playing offense as well, as he caught 68 passes for 1,029 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2024. Former Wisconsin basketball star appeals to Badgers fans with NFL fandom
Former Wisconsin basketball star John Tonje continues to ingratiate himself with the Badger fanbase, even after joining the Utah Jazz as a second-round pick in the latest NBA draft. Tonje, who is on the short list of recent Wisconsin basketball greats despite spending just one year with the program, took to X on Tuesday to share the following: "Never had a football team growing up, but I went to Wisconsin, so I think I'm a Packers fan." Of course, not all Wisconsin basketball fans are also Green Bay Packers fans. However, given Wisconsin basketball's place in the state's larger sports ecosystem, that dual fandom is quite common. Tonje's play already did the heavy lifting with the fanbase during the season. Now playing in the NBA, he still maintains a connection to Wisconsin and the Badger fanbase. The All-American wing began his college basketball career at Colorado State back in 2019. He played four years for the Rams, headlined by per-game averages of 14.6 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists as a senior in 2022-23. The Omaha, Nebraska, native then transferred to Missouri for his fifth year, though he missed nearly the entire season due to injury. Finally, Tonje joined the Badgers for his final collegiate season in 2024-25. He delivered one of the greatest seasons in program history, averaging 19.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists and finishing just eight points shy of Frank Kaminsky's single-season scoring record. That record would have been his had the Badgers defeated BYU in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Tonje, who recently concluded the NBA Summer League session with the Jazz, is now looking to make his mark at the professional level. On3: Wisconsin among college football's 'most overrated' in preseason AP Poll since 2014
The Wisconsin Badgers were On3's Brett McMurphy's No. 5 most overrated team in the preseason AP Poll since 2014. McMurphy's list included the 25 programs deemed too highly rated in the Associated Press' annual college football preseason hierarchy. At No. 5, Wisconsin landed behind the USC Trojans (No. 1), Auburn Tigers (No. 2), Texas A&M Aggies and LSU Tigers (No. 4). Including Lincoln Riley's Trojans and Luke Fickell's Badgers, a total of seven Big Ten programs were given the 'perennially overrated' label. The Oregon Ducks (No. 7), Michigan Wolverines (No. 10), UCLA Bruins (No. 13), Nebraska Cornhuskers (No. 20) and Ohio State Buckeyes (No. 25) also appeared on the ranking. Since 2014, the Badgers have appeared on nine of a possible 12 preseason top 25 polls, climbing to as high as No. 4 ahead of the 2018 slate. Wisconsin's ranking in just five end-of-year AP polls in that time affirms McMurphy's opinion on the program's preseason hype. While Wisconsin has not experienced the same type of success as Alabama, Georgia, or Ohio State over the past decade, the Badgers have showcased consistency. UW notched nine consecutive winning seasons dating back to Paul Chryst's first year manning the sidelines in 2015, in addition to seven bowl game victories in eight years. Under Luke Fickell, however, the Badgers have not experienced the same success. Wisconsin went 5-7 in 2024, a record that prevented the program from clinching a bowl game appearance for the first time since 2001. UW is also slated to square off against six preseason AP top 25 teams this fall, which could extend that bowl-less streak from one to two. While McMurphy's list is partially subjective, the Badgers haven't posted a notable postseason moment since the 2020 Rose Bowl against Justin Herbert and the Oregon Ducks. Wisconsin will look to alter that outlook this fall when it opens the season against Miami (Ohio) on Aug. 28 in Madison.
