The Kansas City Chiefs nearly completed a three-year run atop the NFL, but despite falling short their front office continues to operate like a well-oiled machine. originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Kansas City Chiefs were already on an incredible run before the last three seasons and their multiple return to the Super Bowl. A once budding dynasty has evolved into one of the most polarizing franchises in all of professional sports. Advertisement Admittedly, that may have to do with Taylor Swift entering the fold two seasons ago and the evolving celebrity of Patrick Mahomes' and Travis Kelce's families. But strictly on the gridiron, the Chiefs have become a force that no other AFC team can get past when it matters most. Internet trolls and bitter rival fans make the case that their luck has won out. Even when entertaining a silly idea, any "luck" comes from competent and calculated leadership. Chiefs general manager Brett Veach has nailed both pieces down. In an ever-changing league, Veach and the Chiefs are resilient in their operation year after year. Head coach Andy Reid also has a hand in this excellence which is why NBC Sports' Patrick Daugherty ranked the two as the league's No. 2 general manger(s). "The NFL's salary cap system punishes greatness, and you either need to be ruthless like the Patriots of yore or ruthlessly opportunistic like Howie Roseman's Eagles to sustain a sovereignty. Andy Reid and Brett Veach have mostly succeeded on both fronts." Advertisement Daugherty notes that this balancing act proved too difficult when they went up against the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX. However, just as they showed after losing Super Bowl LV, they are adept at learning from their mistakes. "They have played contract hardball when necessary ([Chris] Jones, Tyreek Hill) and kept churning on their problem spots until solutions presented themselves (Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy)." Some may still be sour on the Chiefs' prospects for 2025 after their lasting impression from February. But if the last decade of Kansas City football has proven anything, they will not be so easy to get rid of. And for that reason, both Veach and Reid as architects in their own way deserve a load of credit. However, they will be running things back with much of the same core from last season. Advertisement That barely beat their top AFC contender in the Buffalo Bills and, again, was no match for the Eagles. If the goal is just to make the postseason and win the division, Kansas City should be well equipped to repeat that feat. But everyone involved knows the ultimate goal is the Super Bowl. Anything less, fair or not, will be considered a failure. Oklahoma Sooners formally announce new front office structure

Oklahoma Sooners formally announce new front office structure When new Oklahoma Sooners general manager Jim Nagy was hired away from his post as the Executive Director of the Reese's Senior Bowl in February, he promised a much more aggressive approach to player acquisition and retention in the transfer portal-NIL era of college football. He also promised a restructured front office model that would look more like what is seen in the NFL. Nagy has slowly made hires throughout the last few months to build the OU front office in his image, and the program formally announced all those new faces via a press release on Monday. The new staff members have their titles as well. According to the press release, "The University of Oklahoma Athletics Department announced Monday the hiring of several football staff members, pending OU Board of Regents approval this week. Most of the hires are in OU's new front office as the Sooners move closer to a professionalized model of college football." These moves come after news broke this weekend that schools will be directly paying their athletes in less than a month. This is the result of the House v. NCAA settlement, and it will change college athletics forever. It comes nearly four years after it became legal in college sports for college athletes to benefit from their name, image, and likeness (NIL). However, this result was an expected one. It had been brewing for a while, and the Sooners had been planning for this outcome. "This is an exciting time for Oklahoma Football," Nagy said via the press release. "It has been a deliberate process building the first front office in program history and I couldn't be happier with how it came together. We have a great blend of diverse backgrounds and complementary skill sets from both the NFL and collegiate levels and we feel the cumulative evaluation experience will give us a competitive advantage moving forward. Going through an incredibly successful first official visit weekend the past few days has only affirmed we have uniquely positioned ourselves to build elite rosters ... I want to credit Coach Venables for his support and leadership during this transition time. The buy-in from Brent and his coaches has been tremendous." Nagy has officially added six members to his first front office staff in Norman. Lake Dawson will serve as the Senior Assistant General Manager. He has spent 25 years in the NFL in both scouting and front-office positions. He has most recently worked for the Buffalo Bills as their senior executive of personnel. He played six NFL seasons as a wide receiver. Taylor Redd will be the Assistant General Manager. He's spent the last six seasons in the New England Patriots' scouting department. Most recently, he served as a senior consultant with The Athlete Group, where he worked with Jake Rosenberg. Prior to his time with the Patriots, Redd was the director of player personnel and NFL liaison from 2017-18 at Wake Forest. Drew Hill is not a newcomer to Oklahoma, but his title has changed. He'll now serve as the Director of Scouting. He's spent the last 11 seasons as OU's Director of Player Personnel, meaning he worked for Bob Stoops, Lincoln Riley and Brent Venables. He was hired away from Colorado State in 2014. Tulsa native Kale Pearson is the Director of High School Scouting. He was most recently the general manager for the Air Force Falcons, where he also played quarterback in the 2010s. He served with the U.S. Air Force as a logistics readiness officer from 2016-21 and worked in private industry before returning to Colorado Springs. Stacey Ford will serve as the Director of Player Personnel and Retainment. He was UCLA's Director of Player Personnel last year, and worked for two seasons at Washington State as their Director of Recruiting. He coached high school football in the Los Angeles area and played linebacker at Tuskegee University. Charlie Parkinson is the Assistant Director of College Scouting. He worked for Nagy for a short time with the Senior Bowl and spent three years with The 33rd Team, a site that covers the NFL, before that. He was a scout, content creator, and talent assistant there. He has collegiate front office experience at both Wake Forest and Amherst College. Oklahoma's front office model and personnel have changed dramatically this offseason. Hiring Nagy was a big step for this program as they try to get ahead in the ever-shifting landscape of college athletics. He's worked to surround himself with experts who can help get the Sooners to a place where they can compete in the SEC and on the national scale again. Former Super Bowl Champion Reveals 'Red Flags' Surrounding Texans, CJ Stroud Before Season

Former Super Bowl Champion Reveals 'Red Flags' Surrounding Texans, CJ Stroud Before Season originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After a 2024 season that saw the Houston Texans win their second straight AFC South title, head coach DeMeco Ryans will look to take on mini-camp in pursuit of getting over the Divisional Round hump. Advertisement Houston decided to move on from left tackle Laremy Tunsil, trading him to the Washington Commanders for draft compensation. But they were able to add some other depth in trades for safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson and wide receiver Christian Kirk. Although the Texans have been making moves, there are concerns around the health status of quarterback C.J. Stroud. Stroud went into offseason workouts in recent weeks with shoulder soreness, and it's kept him from throwing in offseason programs. As the league continues to increase workouts, and mini-camp begins on Monday, Stroud has started to practice more, but in a limited fashion. This has raised some concerns from insiders. CJ Stroud at a Texans Shea-USA TODAY Sports Damien Woody comments on concerning injury to C.J. Stroud On NFL Live on Monday, insider Damien Woody spoke on the concerning status of Texans' quarterback C.J. Stroud. Advertisement "They haven't played a game since January, and your quarterback is not throwing in the offseason – no contact? To me that's red flags everywhere." "When you combine what you see from Houston, as far as the quarterback not throwing – they've got issues along the offensive line... This situation in Houston, offensively, worries me," Woody said. Stroud and the Texans haven't played since losing in the Divisional Round of the playoffs on Jan. 18. Nearly five months later, Stroud is either still feeling sore from that game or he came down with an injury he sustained during the offseason. Advertisement Whether the shoulder soreness is seen as a problem for head coach DeMeco Ryans or not, it will be something that will be monitored moving forward. The Texans begin the 2025 preseason on August 9 as they take on the Minnesota Vikings. This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jun 9, 2025, where it first appeared.
