Waiting over: Cyber crime victims to get faster help
These centres have been launched in five zones: Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Gwalior, and Ujjain, with each zone covering surrounding districts.
Under the previous inbound system, nearly 70% of calls were dropped, and only 30% of victims could reach a tele-caller. However, police claim that under the new system, implemented over the past few weeks, the success rate improved significantly, reaching 60% of victims, with expectations of further improvement.
Senior cyber-crime officials maintained that outbound call centres have been started in all the five zonal offices of the MP Cyber-crime Headquarters. Now, after receiving events from Dial-100, immediate response is being provided to victims based on the above priority.
The officials maintained that the outbound call centres operate round the clock. The callers are well trained to handle the calls. The callers immediately provide help to the victims.

The callers help the victims in saving screenshots and gathering other important evidence. In MP, on average, around 700-800 calls are received on the 1930 national cyber-crime reporting helpline. They range from cyber frauds, some for enquiry, some regarding mystery transactions, and various cyber offences.
"Dedicated call centres have been set up across different zones for cyber-crime complaints so that we can reach a larger number of victims and control the rising incidents of cyber-crime more effectively," said Pranay Nagvanshi, SP, MP State Cyber-crime Headquarters.
He added that the prime focus of this initiative is to at least hear the complaints from the victims and provide help. It is a victim-centric approach.
According to officials, the scale of cyber fraud in Bhopal has reached alarming proportions. As per the Bhopal Cyber-crime Branch data, between 2022 and 2024, city residents cumulatively lost over Rs104 crore to online scams. Of this, nearly Rs63 crore was defrauded in 2024 alone, making it the worst year in terms of financial loss due to cyber-crime.
The surge in cyber-crime cases shows no signs of slowing down in the city as more than 440 complaints have already been lodged at the Bhopal Cyber-crime Branch between January and May this year. The financial toll of these cases stands at a staggering Rs9.3 crore siphoned off by fraudsters.

Another truck driver, Sarbjeet Parmar, charged in US for 2024 road crash in Montana, he blamed wind for the accident
Sarbjeet Parmar at his arraignment Monday. (Photo: KTVQ) Amid row over Indian-origin truck driver Harjinder Singh who killed three in a road accident in Florida that was caused by his fault as he took a wrong U-turn, a 2024 case of another migrant driver came to the surface as the driver was charged with negligent homicide. According to documents filed in Yellowstone County District Court, Sarbjeet Parmar, 39 of Buckley, Washington, has also been charged with five counts of felony criminal endangerment. Reports did not specify Parmar's country of origin but his name suggests he too is possibly from India. Parmar did not plead guilty to the charges and judge David Carter ordered a $10,000 bond. As conditions of bail, the judge also asked Parmar to surrender his passport, local news reports said. Parmar was driving a commercial vehicle pulling a trailer on Dec. 22, 2024 when the vehicle went into the median at mile marker 431, rolled onto its side and entered the oncoming lane of traffic, KTVQ reported. The commercial vehicle then struck a Volkswagen passenger car and a Chevrolet Suburban. The driver of the Suburban, 56-year-old Kevin Wilkerson of Laurel, was killed. Three other occupants of the Suburban and two occupants of the Volkswagen were injured. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Use an AI Writing Tool That Actually Understands Your Voice Grammarly Install Now Undo The investigation of the crash by the Montana Highway Patrol found that Parmar had falsified the Electronic Logbook Device in his vehicle. The device, which records when a commercial driver is off duty, was "manually manipulated," prosecutors alleged, and the investigators determined Parmar "did not take the required 10 hours of Off Duty or Sleeper Berth as required" during the trip. Parmar initially told investigators that wind had caused the accident. The investigation determined there was no evidence to support that wind caused the crash, and instead the crash was "consistent with that of a drowsy driver."

HC drops contempt proceedings against officer after govt complies with order
Cuttack: Orissa high court on Tuesday dropped contempt proceedings against additional chief secretary (home), Satyabrata Sahu, for non-compliance of its directive issued on March 28, 2024 to provide a compensation of Rs 5 lakh in a 2015 custodial death case, after the state govt informed that it had complied with the order. Petitioner's counsel, Prabir Kumar Das, also informed the bench of Justice S K Panigrahi that the legal heirs of the deceased — Makhunu Bag of Dekulba village in Bargarh district — had received the compensation amount on Monday. The contempt petition was filed by Biju Bag, 28, younger son of Makhunu, in March, alleging that the state had failed to comply with the HC's compensation order. The court had earlier warned that Sahu must appear via virtual mode on Aug 19 if the amount was not paid by then. Makhunu had gone missing on July 17, 2015, after visiting Bheden police station to inquire about the whereabouts of his son. More than two months later, on Sept 24, his skeletal remains were recovered from Panichhapar jungle in Sonepur district. His identity was confirmed by both family members and through DNA test. Subsequent police investigation led to the arrest of several personnel, including the officer-in-charge of Bheden police station, on murder charges. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Benefits of Trading Bitcoin CFDs IC Markets Learn More Undo The case is pending before the trial court. Initially, Biju had sought a compensation of Rs 20 lakh for his father's alleged custodial death. In its March 2024 ruling, the HC directed the state to pay Rs 5 lakh to Makhunu's legal heirs. "Though the younger son of the deceased is the only claimant in this writ petition, in the interest of justice and to mitigate the hardship faced by the widow, two young sons, and his ageing mother, this court deems it fit to award compensation of Rs 5 lakh," the court ordered. State govt later sought clarification, contending that the victim's family had already received Rs 7.5 lakh as ex gratia, and the Rs 5 lakh should be considered inclusive. However, the HC, in a July 23, 2024 order, made it clear that the Rs 5 lakh was to be paid "over and above" the earlier amount.
