Behind Dr. Phil's Media Flameout
In its lawsuit, Merit Street says Trinity Broadcasting — known for its Christian programming, and with a distribution network that reaches about 65 million homes in the U.S. — forced its network, Merit TV, into expensive third-party distribution deals rather than using Trinity's own network of local stations and provided 'shoddy production services' for Merit TV's programs, among other issues. McGraw's own Peteski Productions gave Merit Street a bridge loan to cover some ongoing operations, but Merit Street's precarious finances made securing outside infusions of capital impossible, leading to the bankruptcy filing.

Several attempts to reach Trinity Broadcasting for comment were unsuccessful.
Prior to the bankruptcy filing, however, there were a number of indicators that Merit TV was undergoing a rocky start to its life — even putting aside the questionable notion of launching a linear TV venture in a time when streaming is the default option for the largest share of viewers. And even the linear TV part of Merit Street's offering (which also includes a FAST channel and mobile app) wasn't fully locked down: The channel is available over the air (though often on digital subchannels) in most major markets and is available on some — but hardly all — cable and satellite providers. Comcast's Xfinity service, YouTube TV and Hulu + Live TV don't carry it.
On the programming front, McGraw's Dr. Phil Primetime is the flagship show for Merit TV, but it also featured a morning and evening newscast and a handful of original shows, including ones hosted by Nancy Grace and former Bachelor host Chris Harrison. Merit Street also announced a deal with the Professional Bull Riders tour to carry its events, which kicked off in July 2024. By October, however, PBR had pulled its programming from Merit TV, saying the network had yet to pay rights fees. The two sides are in arbitration over the dispute. (PBR moved on to sign a rights deal with Fox Nation, the Fox News streaming platform.)
More recently, the evening newscast was scrapped in favor of a morning show and live hourly updates during other parts of the day. Following the bankruptcy filing, all shows — including Dr. Phil Primetime — have stopped production, leaving Merit TV as something of a zombie channel. Reruns of McGraw's various programs and a few infomercials fill the day. The last available morning newscast on the Merit TV app is from July 1.
On the digital side, Merit TV's YouTube channel has fewer than 90,000 subscribers, and while a handful of videos there have tallied a million or more views (based on YouTube's 30-second qualifier), the biggest one from the last three months has just 40,000.
Merit TV also made headlines — not particularly positive ones — for McGraw's embedding with ICE agents on raids in the early days of Donald Trump's second presidential administration. In the segments aired on Merit TV, 'border czar' Tom Homan states that that the raids showcased problems with so-called sanctuary cities, which McGraw (and Merit's newscasters) seemingly take at face value. McGraw also interviewed Trump several times during the 2024 campaign.
Merit TV never reached a wide audience — in primetime, it averaged a paltry 27,000 viewers in 2024, ranking 130th among broadcast and cable outlets. The company touted its January performance (albeit without any detailed numbers), noting that Merit TV moved up to 65th place for the month. That would have meant an average audience in the low six figures, based on 2024 data, and was also the peak for Merit TV: By the second quarter of 2025, its audience dipped to just 17,000 primetime viewers.

DAN GAINOR: The media are time traveling back to 2017 to find their mojo and talking points
President Donald Trump, the sequel, has been going gangbusters for just over six months, setting in motion a groundbreaking presidency. Even CNN called him, "the most influential president, certainly this 21st century." But most of the press that covers Trump hasn't changed a bit from when they went to war during Trump Part I. The press merely evolved from, "Democracy Dies in Darkness" to Doc Brown, declaring "Great Scott," from "Back to the Future." Only the media didn't go all the way back to the 1950s, they settled on 2017. Oh, sure, the names have changed. Many Washington Post lefties fled the opinion page and their humorously titled factchecker Glenn Kessler took the buyout. Media types like Howard Stern and Stephen Colbert are also being put out to pasture, like racehorses past their prime. Sadly, most of those figures will land at other outlets and on podcasts to keep selling the swill they call "news." Here are just a few recent examples: CBS asked South Carolina Republican Sen. Tim Scott, "how do you reconcile your support for President Trump when many people see his actions as lacking Christian values?" Scott was on to talk about a book about "Christian courage," not media madness. Sometime funny man Larry David ran a Hitler-filled op-ed in the New York Times mocking comedian Bill Maher for having dinner with Trump. The op-ed was titled, "Larry David: My Dinner With Adolf." He ended it with, "I gave him a Nazi salute and walked out into the night." The Daily Beast ran a piece comparing Trump to Hitler written by Chief National Correspondent David Gardner and headlined: "The Echoes of Hitler That Make Trump the World's Most Dangerous Man." It blamed the president for, "casual cruelty to his cabinet." Over at MSNBC, host Rachel Maddow told viewers, "We have a consolidating dictatorship in our country." The alleged dictatorship/Hitler somehow didn't stop any of these instances. On all the key issues of the day, journalists are coming out as pure leftist partisans. Stories on illegal immigration, Israel, gerrymandering and more all look like the PR from the left wing of the Democrat Party. And, of course, the press wants to talk about the Epstein files after ignoring them under President Joe Biden. It's a lame attempt to smear The Donald because, if there was anything even mildly embarrassing to Trump, the Deep State would have leaked it sometime in the past 10 years. Still, the Times reveals the reason for the round-the-clock attack coverage, "How Much Has the Epstein Case Hurt Trump? Polls Provide Some Answers." And, "How Epstein Mania Finally Let Democrats Talk (and Meme) Like the Right." They know it's BS, they just think it's OK to do it … because Trump. It's just an historical rewrite of "Russia, Russia, Russia." The actual Russian collusion claims were proven a fraud pushed by the press and their Deep State allies. But the claims won't go away no matter what facts disprove it. Both Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard and Attorney General Pam Bondi are pursuing the case with a massive dump of new documents. And that Bondi ordered the Justice Department to convene a grand jury. Despite that, we've got outlets like Rolling Stone claiming, "MAGA's New Russiagate 'Evidence' Was Likely Made Up by the Kremlin." And the media parroted the party (the Democrat Party) line that it's a distraction from Epstein or it's "an unfounded conspiracy theory." The major networks spent over 2,000 minutes hyping the original false claim. Now they can barely spare a couple that humiliate them for their biased reporting. It doesn't stop there. President George W. Bush proposed a moon base back in 2004 as part of his "Vision for Space Exploration." No one cared because it had been a sci-fi staple for decades. When Trump proposed the same thing, CBS brought up, well, take a look: "We know how the age of colonialism worked on this planet," said CBS News host Vladimir Duthiers. Poor astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson had to remind him "there are no moon beings" who are getting colonized. The New York Times opinion pages look like they are from 2017. Headlines like, "Our President Is Economically Illiterate," "There's a Name for What Trump Is Doing. Juan Crow" and "You May Not Be Trump's Target This Time, but You Could Be Next." All of that gets the added fun of an editorial headlined, "America Will Suffer From Trump's Assault on Facts." Well, we already suffered because of the media's assault on facts. On TV, the cabal of kooks at "The View" made news when the Media Research Center (FYI, my kick-butt, old workplace) revealed the show had zero conservative guests in the first half of the year. The math wasn't mathing – 102 to 0. That's like an NBA vs. WNBA game. Even lefty "Breakfast Club" host Charlamagne tha God said it "is ridiculous to have a platform and … only talk to people that you agree with." He's right, of course. Journalists and the rest of the time-traveling lefty media figures just don't care. They will party like it's 2017 and won't be any less strident or make even one less Hitler comparison. They crashed the DeLorean eight years ago and are stuck there. The problem they have is that most of America is still in 2025.

Reactions To Idaho Church With Christian Nationalist Views
A Christian church in Moscow, Idaho, has gone viral due to a recent segment on CNN, where church members openly discussed their controversial views on religion, the role of women, voting rights, slavery, and more. You can watch the segment here. The head of "Christ Church," Senior Pastor Doug Wilson, began the interview by directly stating he wanted a "Christian world." "I'd like to see the nation be a Christian nation....I'd like to see the world be a Christian world," Wilson told CNN. Later on, Wilson was questioned on his decision to open another "Christ Church" location in Washington, DC. Wilson also expressed his "views" on women and motherhood... And that's when things became a bit tense between Wilson and the interviewer... Elsewhere, members of the church spoke about a man's and a woman's role in a family. "He is the head of our household, yes, and I do submit to him," one member said happily, as her husband smiled. Another member shared his view on voting rights, stating that every household should only get one vote. "In my ideal society, we would vote as households. And I would ordinarily be the one who casts the vote, but I would cast the vote having discussed it with my household." Another member expressed his support for the repeal of the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote. "I would support that. And I would support it on the basis that the atomization that comes with our current system is not good for humans." And one of the most shocking opinions shared was Wilson's take on slave owners... Over 5 million people have watched CNN's interview with several "Christ Church" members, which spawned reactions from thousands of comments. Commonly, people were angry about CNN's decision to give this group media attention... ...and argued that churches with these types of controversial opinions should be taxed. "Why are men so threatend by us!???" Jesus Christ I'm tired," one commenter wrote. "this is absolutely terrifying and I'm a conservative Christian Republican. they are taking the Bible out of context," one person commented. "I was raised this way. Married a man like this. Now I'm happily divorced for over 10yrs & haven't spoken to my father in almost 5yrs. Happiest I've ever been in my life," one commenter wrote. "Single and a thriving mother with a Master's degree and an amazing job that I love. F the Patriarchy." What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments.

Dr. Phil's anti-woke TV network files for bankruptcy, accuses Christian broadcasting partner of ‘sabotage'
Dr. Phil McGraw's conservative-leaning cable network Merit Street Media is filing for bankruptcy barely a year after its launch, and is also suing its distribution partner Trinity Broadcasting for breach of contract. In its lawsuit against the Christian broadcaster, Merit Street alleged that Trinity 'reneged on its obligations and abused its position as the controlling shareholder of Merit Street,' leaving the upstart channel with over $100 million in debt. 'These failures by TBN were neither unintended nor inadvertent,' the lawsuit read. 'They were a conscious, intentional pattern of choices made with full awareness that the consequence of which was to sabotage and seal the fate of a new but already nationally acclaimed network.' Following a two-decade run as a syndicated daytime talk show host, McGraw announced in late 2023 that he was starting up his own multi-platform media company, which would include a cable television channel featuring a Dr. Phil primetime program as its flagship. Claiming that Merit Street would become 'one of the most widely distributed startup networks in modern history,' the company revealed before its official launch that it was partnering with TBN. Besides McGraw's weeknight show, the channel would focus on true crime and cultural programming and boast a lineup of familiar TV personalities such as Nancy Grace, Steve Harvey and Bear Grylls. 'Merit Street Media will be a resource of information and strategies to fight for America and its families, which are under a cultural 'woke' assault as never before," McGraw said at the time. 'I love this country and I believe family is the backbone of our society. Together we are going to stand strong and fight for the very soul and sanity of America and get things that matter back on track.' However, after officially launching in April 2024, the network soon found itself in financial turmoil. Just months after McGraw's high-profile and fawning primetime interview with Donald Trump, Merit Street laid off roughly 40 employees in August of last year – representing about one-third of its total staff. And just last month, amid the Dr. Phil show's 'summer hiatus,' another 40 staffers were given the pink slip. It would now appear, though, that it was due to more than McGraw's primetime program taking a break. In a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in the Northern District Court of Texas, Merit Street cited a 'severely strained liquidity position' and the inability to secure additional capital as reasons for the declaration. It further mentioned issues with TBN and the Professional Bull Riders as factors. The Professional Bull Riders pulled its programming from Merit Street last November, just months after signing a four-year deal with the network. According to PBR at the time, it was severing ties with McGraw's channel due to failure to make their payments for rights fees. Merit also claimed in the bankruptcy filing that McGraw's Peteski Productions company had continued to inject 'substantial capital infusions' to keep the network going, but was unable to raise necessary funds through another round of equity financing. Ultimately, the network placed much of the blame on Trinity. 'Trinity Broadcasting Network is being sued by Merit Street Media for failing to provide clearly agreed-upon national distribution and other significant foundational commitments critical to the network's continuing success and viability,' a Merit Street spokesperson said in a statement. 'The suit is part of a restructuring proceeding also initiated by MSM.' In the lawsuit, which was also filed on Wednesday, Merit alleged that TBN 'began to abuse its power as a controlling shareholder' of the network and forced Merit to engage in costly third-party distribution deals with cable providers, despite Trinity boasting an extensive local TV lineup. On top of that, Merit Street accused Trinity of self-dealing by charging the company for studio space to produce Dr. Phil's shows, adding that TBN provided 'shoddy production values.' McGraw, meanwhile, has made headlines in recent months for embedding himself with ICE agents for raids amid the Trump administration's immigration crackdowns in large American cities. After joining immigration enforcement for ride-alongs in Chicago in January, with footage of migrant arrests being used for content for Merit, the network boasted that McGraw and his camera crew got a 'first-hand look at the targeted operations' in Los Angeles that led to fiery protests and Trump mobilizing the National Guard.
