Foreign Office 'remember not to' alert to all UK holidaymakers
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has issued a warning to any Brits who may be counting down to a "big holiday". The government body, which protects UK citizens while abroad among many other tasks, regularly issues updates online.
And in a new post on X, formerly Twitter, on Saturday, the FCDO issued a warning to anyone planning to consume alcohol while abroad. The full post reads: "Heading for a big holiday abroad soon? Before you hit the bar: Remember not to leave your drinks unattended [and that] drinks abroad can have different alcohol measures."
Text over an accompanying graphic adds: "Stick with your mates. Keep an eye on your drinks." Travellers are also pointed towards the FCDO's Travel Aware campaign, which is aimed at making sure holidaymakers "have the best possible travel abroad, help you stay safe and understand risks in different countries".
Further advice found here adds: "Drinking abroad can be different to back in the UK. The quality of alcohol can vary, measures can be more generous, and tempting deals may lead to quicker intoxication than anticipated. Be aware that drink spiking can occur while on holiday.
"Spiking is adding alcohol or drugs to someone's drink without them knowing. Spiking is commonly used to distract you from theft or impair you before an assault. Do not leave your drink unattended and do not accept drinks from strangers. This is the best strategy to prevent the possibility of your drink being spiked.
"Consume water in-between alcoholic drinks. This will help pace you throughout the night and help keep you hydrated. Drink at your own pace. Everyone's tolerance to alcohol is different. Consider avoiding rounds or having a break from drinking alcohol if you are feeling uneasy."

Our parks are set on some of Britain's most stunning beaches and coastlines, making them a great base for exploring the local area and enjoying the seaside. "There's nothing better than starting and ending your day with a sunrise or sunset over the sea—especially when it's right here in the UK. Brits are still surprised by just how breathtaking our coastline can be.' The survey also revealed that holidaymakers are willing to travel an average of 159 miles for a seaside break, with many prepared to pay extra for a room with a view. The main reasons for splashing out on a sea view were the sense of relaxation and escapism it provides, as well as the proven mental and physical health benefits of being by the coast. Other reasons for choosing a UK holiday over going abroad included avoiding airport stress and delays, having more flexibility with dates and duration, and being able to bring pets along. For Brits, this meant they could be exploring the Brandenburg Gate, the Berlin Wall and Checkpoint Charlie "in just a matter of years", according to Transport Secretary, Heidi Alexander. The secretary added: "This landmark agreement – part of a new treaty the Prime Minister will sign with Chancellor Merz today - has the potential to fundamentally change how millions of people travel between our two countries, offering a faster, more convenient and significantly greener alternative to flying. "A new task force will bring our nations closer together and create new opportunities for tourism, business and cultural exchange, building on a landmark deal we signed earlier this year to explore introducing direct services to Switzerland." The plans are also set to give the UK a big economic boost, with the creation of jobs and strengthened trade links. Alexander added: "This is central to our Plan for Change – breaking down barriers, thinking boldly about the future, and making long-term decisions that better connect Britain to the world. "Working with Germany, we're building bridges between our people and paving the way for a more sustainable, connected future." It has not been made clear where the new train service would depart from in London. Currently, St Pancras International is the only London station that provides direct international passenger trains, including ones that connect to Germany - via a change in Brussels. This is due to St Pancras being the terminus for High Speed 1 (HS1) - the only high-speed rail line in the UK that connects to the Channel Tunnel. Currently, St Pancras International is the only London station that provides direct international passenger train services, including those that connect (via a change in Brussels) to Germany. This is because St Pancras is the final station for High Speed 1 (HS1) - the only high-speed rail line in the UK that connects to the Channel Tunnel on the UK side. However, Stratford International and Ebbsfleet International stations both sit on the HS1 line. In theory, both of these places could handle international services. A new high-speed line known as High Speed 2 (HS2) is under construction in the UK. Whilst the line will primarily be used for travel within the UK, such as linking London to the West Midlands, there have been some discussions about a link between HS1 and HS2. If this link were to be built, it could allow for direct international services from other parts of the UK via HS2. New European rail service A NEW European train service, launching next year, will connect Prague, Berlin, and Copenhagen, marking the first direct route between Prague and Copenhagen in a decade. Operated by Czech, German, and Danish rail companies, the service will primarily run twice daily. The journey from Prague to Copenhagen will take around 11hours - a duration expected to decrease with the completion of the Fehmarn Belt Undersea Tunnel. Onboard, passengers can enjoy a dining car, a children's cinema, and improved mobile signal. The ComfortJet trains will also offer space for bikes and be wheelchair accessible. This initiative is one of 10 pilot projects supported by the European Commission to enhance cross-border rail travel. The construction of HS2 is also behind schedule and the Government confirmed in June that the completion of the line would now be delayed beyond the target date of 2033. Plus, a gamechanger new budget train line is to launch from London next year.

The study, conducted by Haven, discovered that when holidaying in the UK, eight out of 10 people consider accommodation with a sea view important, with 35 percent said it was essential when going away. Simon Palethorpe, CEO at Haven, commented: "You don't need to go far from home to get picture postcard views and scenery. "Our parks are on some of Britain's most stunning beaches and coastlines making them a great base for exploring the local area and enjoying the seaside. "There's nothing better than starting and ending your day with a sunrise and sunset view over the sea - even more so when it's on home soil. Brits are still so surprised by the breathtaking coastline we have in the UK." The research also found eight in ten people consider a coastal location important when holidaying in the UK, with holidaymakers willing to travel an average of 159 miles from home for a seaside break. Furthermore, 85 percent would be prepared to pay extra for such a view, with the maximum amount spent to secure a coastal view in the UK exceeding £550 for two people. The willingness to pay a premium for a sea view was primarily driven by the sense of relaxation and escapism it provides, with results showing being by the coast is beneficial for both mental and physical health.
