Cole Young called up to the Mariners, gets walk-off RBI in MLB debut
Former WPIAL star baseball player Cole Young has made it to the big leagues and had a shining moment in his MLB debut over the weekend.
Cole Young, a former standout at North Allegheny High School was called up the MLB by the Seattle Mariners, who drafted Young with the 21st overall pick in the 2022 MLB Draft.
Ranked as the No. 43 prospect in all of Major League Baseball, Young was batting .277 with 57 hits and five home runs in 206 at bats for the Tacoma Rainiers.
Young, a second baseman and shortstop, was called up to the big leagues and the moment of his being told about the promotion was captured by the Mariners' social media team.

"I meant to tell you this earlier, but I'm really proud of what you've done and how far you've come," Rainiers manager John Russell said. "Just take that to Seattle tomorrow, okay?"
The big moments weren't over yet for Young, however.
On Saturday, Young walked off the Twins with a dribbler up the first base line to bring home Miles Mastrubuoni.

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Young is the second fastest WPIAL player to make it to the MLB when being drafted in the first round out of high school.

‘Ballerina' Reviews: Are Critics In Step With ‘John Wick' Spinoff?
From the World of John Wick: Ballerina — starring Ana de Arma and featuring Keanu Reeves — has some, but not all, critics jumping for joy. Rated R, Ballerina plays in Thursday previews and opens in 3,400 North American theaters on Friday. The logline for Ballerina reads, 'Taking place during the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, the film follows Eve Macarro (Armas) who is beginning her training in the assassin traditions of the Ruska Roma.' Directed by Len Wiseman, Ballerina also stars features John Wick franchise stars Reeves, Anjelica Huston, Ian McShane and the late Lance Reddick in supporting roles. Ballerina also stars Gabriel Byrne, Catalina Sandino Moreno and Norman Reedus. The review embargo for Ballerina lifted Wednesday afternoon and the film is getting a mostly positive reception from Rotten Tomatoes critics with a 75% rating based on 55 reviews as of the publication of this article. The rating, of course, could change as more reviews roll in the throughout the week and over the weekend. The RT Critics Consensus and Popcornmeter rating are still pending. David Ehrlich of IndieWire is among the top critics on RT who gives From the World of John Wick: Ballerina a 'fresh' review, writing, 'The good news is that Ballerina has another place it wants to show us, and that place turns out to be a wonderful addition to this franchise's ever-swelling cinematic universe.' David Rooney of The Hollywood Reporter also thinks Ballerina takes a step in the right direction, noting in his review summary on RT, "[Ana] de Armas is a magnetic presence with all the right moves, and [Len] Wiseman's muscular direction make for mindless summer action entertainment with a lot of style." Also praising Ballerina is Gregory Nussen of Deadline Hollywood Daily, who writes in his RT summary, '[Ana] de Armas is a huge reason why this all works; her presence is beguiling, and her movement is immaculate. So, too, is Jason Ballantine's editing job.' Among Ballerina's detractors on RT is Liz Shannon Miller of Consequence, who writes in her 'rotten' review, "As a vehicle to add more lore and nuance to the JWCU — while also delivering numerous fun action sequences — Ballerina functions well. Lincoln Financial Field will host matches for the inaugural FIFA Club World Cup in Philadelphia, but Stockton University has also been selected as a training site. Focusing on straight lines and overlapping passes, the grounds team at the school in Galloway Township is mowing the soccer field with precision. Crews are working around the clock after FIFA announced CR Flamengo from Brazil will be the team spending roughly two weeks training in South Jersey. "CR Flamengo is one of the most popular teams in the world with over 57 million followers," said Jeff Haines, the associate director of athletics and recreation at Stockton. "The university realizes how big of a deal this is, not just from a local soccer standpoint, but a global standpoint that puts Stockton on the map." Fresh lines were painted on the soccer field on Tuesday, and FIFA shipped new goals ahead of the practice sessions. The university's athletic director, Tony Berich, said representatives from Brazil visited the campus in December, and one of the selling points was the Bermuda grass inside G. Larry James Stadium. "I don't know if we would have this opportunity if we didn't have this field, I don't think we would have even been considered," Berich said. Stockton's field was grown at Tuckahoe Turf Farms in Hammonton, the same farm working with FIFA and Lincoln Financial Field, so it will be a smooth transition for CR Flamengo. The university installed temporary fencing around the stadium to keep the players and the field more secure. "We do have experience in hosting big events and soccer teams, this is another big exciting event that we're really looking forward to," Haines said. In 1994, Stockton hosted Saudi Arabia's team ahead of the World Cup. "We were also fortunate enough to host Nigeria in 1996 for their Olympic training camp as well. Nigeria went on to win the gold medal," Haines said. Now, Stockton is preparing for CR Flamengo's arrival on June 12, and the team will train in Galloway Township through June 23. Officials say the field and facilities will be ready. "This is the one chance that we have to be associated with … a worldwide event like this," Berich said.
