Genelia D'Souza asks why film industry can't offer her a role like Sitaare Zameen Par: ‘They think I'm married so I don't need this character'
Genelia D'Souza will be next seen as Aamir Khan's wife in RS Prasanna's coming-of-age sports comedy Sitaare Zameen Par, slated to release in cinemas on June 20. In a recent interview, Genelia revealed she auditioned thrice for the part, but didn't mind it because she wanted to do a layered role like Sunita, her character in the film.
'When people got to know I'm doing Sitaare Zameen Par, everybody said, 'Oh my god! So lucky! You're doing an Aamir Khan film!' I said of course, that's Aamir sir's bigness that he saw something in me. Of course, he made me audition. But you could also do that, right? You could also offer me a role,' said Genelia in an interview with Filmymantra Media.
She continued, 'But you go as per the norms. Maybe you think I'm married so I don't need this character. I just feel filmmaking has changed, and so should our mentality. It's very important that if you want a character of a certain age, you should cast someone of that age. When we cast an actor who's much younger than the character I played, they can't understand the little-little things of it. It's important to cast right. And I hope opportunities go everyone's way.'
Interestingly, Genelia D'Souza's first film with Aamir Khan Productions was Abbas Tyrewala's 2008 cult romantic comedy Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na, in which she was cast opposite Aamir's nephew Imran Khan in his debut film. Aamir recently opened up on casting Genelia in an interview with SCREEN. 'That was a long time ago. And ab Imran bhi kafi meri age ka ho gaya hai (Now Imran is also quite close to my age),' Aamir quipped.
'That thought did come to me, but in the film, we're both playing characters in the age group of early 40s. She's around that age. I'm 60, but in today's day and age, we have the advantage of VFX,' reasoned Aamir. He added that casting Genelia was director RS Prasanna's idea.
In an exclusive interview with SCREEN, Prasanna claimed that Genelia is hugely popular in the South, from where he hails. 'Working with Genelia has been such a pleasure. She's full of positive energy. She's a great actor, and we love her in the South! Apparently, she's done all languages — Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and now, Marathi, obviously,' pointed out Prasanna.

Genelia D'Souza made her debut with the Bollywood film Tujhe Meri Kasam in 2003. Her first Tamil film was Boys in 2003, first Telugu movie was Satyam the next year, Kannada film debut was Satya My Love in 2008, and maiden Malayalam movie was Urumi in 2011. She made a full-fledged acting debut in Marathi with her husband Riteish Deshmukh's 2022 directorial debut Ved.

Aamir Khan Says He Still Believes In Marriage: ‘I Could've Faked It With Kiran, But Didn't'
Last Updated: Aamir Khan was previously married to Reena Dutta, with whom he shares two children - Ira and Junaid. He later married filmmaker Kiran Rao, and the two co-parent their son Azad. Aamir Khan is currently promoting his upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par, but the actor recently got candid about his personal life in an interview with Zoom. The 59-year-old star reflected on his two divorces and his current relationship with Gauri Spratt. Speaking about the emotional toll of separation, Aamir said, 'In India, marriage is a very serious thing. When your marriage breaks, you go to divorce, and people don't like that. Emotionally, they don't like it either. I know that too, and I also believe that marriage is a very important thing and shouldn't be taken lightly. I completely agree with that. That's why I can present this matter truthfully in front of people, and I should. I do speak the truth that I was married to Reena, but we can no longer stay married, or I was married to Kiran, and now we can no longer stay married. So, it's a loss for all of us. Our families are not happy with this and we are also not doing it happily." Aamir further added that pretending to be in a happy marriage would have been dishonest. 'I can pretend that Kiran and I are happy together and we can live like that our whole lives and personally, I can do whatever I want, she can do whatever she wants, but in the eyes of the world, we are still married. We can live like that too, but that would be a lie." In a moment of lightheartedness, the actor added with a smile, 'Shaadi me main kamyab nahi hua hun, lekin divorce me main hua hoon (I wasn't successful in marriage, but I've been successful in divorce)." The actor also said that he still believes in the institution of marriage. 'It's a very old institution and I have the deepest regard in my heart for this institution. It's a very beautiful feeling. I would want that every person gets to experience this," he added. Aamir Khan was previously married to Reena Dutta, with whom he shares two children – Ira and Junaid. He later married filmmaker Kiran Rao, and the two co-parent their son Azad. In March this year, on his 60th birthday, Aamir made headlines by publicly introducing his girlfriend Gauri Spratt to the media in Mumbai. The couple has since made several appearances together. Rauf is a man without empathy, driven by chaos and capable of brutal violence. And yet, nestled within all that destruction, lies something deeply human. "There's a sliver of vulnerability -- especially in how he loves his niece. She's the only person he protects without question," Rampal shares. Insider Scoop: Cast of 'Crakk: Jeetegaa Toh Jiyegaa' unveils behind-the-scenes magic in candid interview "What made playing Rauf so challenging was how he could show tenderness, even while being completely consumed by darkness," the actor added. The series has been created by and directed by Anshuman, , and Abhay Chopra. It is produced by Locomotive Global Media. Earlier, the creator of the show, Karan Anshuman had shared an interesting anecdote from the shooting of the series when Rana Daggubati improvised his lines but it soon went into some other tangent. Rana Daggubati essays the titular character in the series, and was in a heated stand-off against his uncle Venkatesh Daggubati, who essays his estranged father in the series. During the verbal stand-off, the two broke into Telugu language. Now, Karan has a little knowledge of the language, so he, in his director's seat, was under the impression that "magic is about to happen" since both the actors were saying lines in their native language, which essentially means better grip on the dialogue exchange. However, the director was shocked to his bones when he heard the word "biryani". The show is set to stream on Netflix on June 13.

Roshan Mathew says his first Hindi project helped him correct ‘wrong approach' to acting; admits he was ignoring the camera during early Malayalam projects
Actor Roshan Mathew has recently opened up about his busy career in Bollywood, despite being a Mollywood star. He gained popularity with his role in Darlings, and his recent OTT series Kankhajura has received much appreciation. The actor admitted that although his roots are in the Malayalam film industry, he made his debut as an actor with the Hindi series 'Tanlines' in 2015. Roshan Mathew about his role in Kankhajura In an interview with Hindustan Times, Roshan said playing in Kankhajura was exciting because it marked his first time portraying a grey-shaded character—especially in Hindi, where audiences mostly know him as the softer Zulfi from Darlings. He found the change both refreshing and fun. Kankhajura Trailer: Roshan Mathew, Mohit Raina and Sarah Jane Dias Starrer Kankhajura Official Trailer When asked about his appearance and the roles he plays, Roshan admitted that physical appearance plays a significant role in casting choices. He shared that he is glad Kankhajura's director, Chandan Arora, chose him for the role. Roshan about his career in Bollywood and Mollywood Roshan shared that returning to Bollywood feels like coming full circle. He elaborated, 'My first project in front of the camera—where I actually started having fun with the medium—was Tanlines. Proshit Roy, who directed it, played a huge part in helping me make friends with the camera. I had done a couple of films in Malayalam, but they hadn't been released. But I was going about it with the wrong approach. I was completely ignoring the camera and pretending like I was on stage. Proshit changed that for me. I owe a lot to him. So, if you think about it, getting to do another series in Hindi is a strange kind of homecoming." About Kankhajura Kankhajura also features Mohit Raina, Sarah Jane Dias, and Trinetra Haldar in key roles and is currently streaming on OTT.
