Sedibeng mayor facing suspension found unharmed after 'hijacking and kidnapping'
Gauteng police spokesperson Brig Brenda Muridili said the owner of a house Maloka and her driver were leaving from reported the hijacking.
'Preliminary reports suggest the owner of the house reported the matter to an individual who then informed the mayor's husband. The husband went to report the matter at Dawn Park police station.'
A broadcast was issued for her vehicle.
'The vehicle was recovered at about midnight in Dawn Park by Katlehong police. A few hours later at about 2am, the mayor and the driver were found unharmed and reunited with their families.'
Muridili said statements would be taken from the victims and police were looking for the suspects.
The incident comes as Maloka faced a disciplinary investigation into alleged misconduct this week.
DA Sedibeng caucus leader Cllr Sibusiso Dyonase said in a statement on Thursday the council had resolved to write to Gauteng MEC for co-operative governance and traditional affairs Jacob Mamabolo calling for Maloka's immediate suspension.
'Maloka has long been a problematic figure, today's resolution centres around her and other municipal officials' misdeeds in wasting more than R500,000 on a trip to Germany. Prominently, her role in the destruction of the mayoral vehicle featured as part of today's proceedings. Sugar was found in the engine of the car after the council forced her to use the R490,000 vehicle.'
Dyonase said Maloka had called for a full investigation into maladministration in her administration while claiming she was the target of a smear campaign.

Hawks arrest Gauteng traffic cop and accomplice for corruption
A Gauteng traffic police official and a civilian are expected to appear before the Lenasia magistrate's court on Thursday to face extortion and corruption charges. The pair, both aged 50, were arrested on Tuesday. 'A complaint was received from a business owner about a Gauteng traffic police official who on a monthly basis visits the business premises saying that the business operating licences are not legitimate and demands money as gratification to not have the business closed,' Hawks spokesperson W/O Thatohatsi Mavimbela said. The traffic official is alleged to have demanded R10,000 monthly from the business owner. On Tuesday, the traffic official and his accomplice visited the business premises where they arrested one of the employees, later released the employee and took the business' operating certificates as well as R3,000 from the business's petty cash and informed the owner that they would return the certificates upon receiving the R7,000 balance. 'The matter was reported to the Hawks Serious Corruption Investigation unit which led to the subsequent arrest of the suspects at Zakariyya Park after the pair received the requested balance from the complainant.' A win for NPA after disgraced advocate found guilty
Senior Counsel, Seth Nthai, was found guilty of corruption by the Johannesburg High Court. He admitted to soliciting a R5 million bribe from Italian businessman, Mario Marcenaro, in October 2009. The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has welcomed the court's decision . Following Nthai's guilty plea, the court accepted a sentence agreement of a R500 000 fine or two years of direct imprisonment. 'In addition, he received a five-year suspended sentence, wholly suspended for five years on the condition that he is not convicted of a similar offence during the suspension period,' said the NPA. The court acknowledged the seriousness of Nthai's offence. His guilty plea and age were also named as contributors of the final decision and sentencing. It was also highlighted that the complainant in the matter was the Government of the Republic of South Africa. 'The bribe was intended to influence the outcome of the Piero Foresti and others vs the Government of the Republic of South Africa international arbitration case,' said the NPA. At the time, Nthai was the government's legal representative. According to the NPA, investigations revealed that he disclosed confidential information of the case to Marcenaro. The information included legal strategies, defences and possible outcomes. The court heard that Nthai promised to influence the government to secure a favourable settlement for Marcenaro and other claimants. Despite receiving the information, Macenaro never paid the R5 million bribe however. The NPA said they remain committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring accountability. Additionally they said they will continue to pursue those who compromise the integrity of state institutions and the justice system for personal gain. 'Unethical conduct and the abuse of public trust, regardless of status, position or influence will not be tolerated,' concluded the NPA. Casoojee's plea to Justice Minister regarding his partenal struggle
Sifiso Mahlangu | Published 1 hour ago In an emotional and public plea, Cape Town businessman Asif Casoojee has called on Justice Minister Mmamoloko 'Nkhensani' Kubayi to urgently intervene in what he describes as a deeply painful legal struggle that has kept him separated from his children for more than a year. Casoojee accuses attorney Kaamilah Paulse, who represents his ex-wife, of manipulating the legal system to isolate him from his children and deny him meaningful access. Once married to Paulse, Casoojee says their post-divorce custody dispute has turned into a campaign of alienation, with him being systematically removed from his children's lives. Speaking to the media outside the Western Cape High Court this week, Casoojee described how his rights as a father have been eroded through what he calls calculated legal tactics. 'I am pleading with Minister Kubayi to look into this case. I have followed the law and respected the court process, but I am being punished for wanting to be a father. The system has been used to silence me.' Casoojee claims Paulse has overstepped her role as attorney, taking on functions beyond legal representation, such as appointing herself as the children's main school contact. Despite paying school fees and supporting his children financially, Casoojee says he is treated like an outsider. He recounted being denied entry to a Father's Day event in 2024, saying the school told him that Paulse was registered as next of kin. 'That day broke me,' he said. 'I was told I could not participate in an event made for fathers. My children saw that. They saw me being turned away.' Earlier this year, the Legal Practice Council's Appeals Tribunal found prima facie evidence that Paulse had committed professional misconduct. According to The Star and IOL , the case includes allegations of parental alienation, as well as an alleged attempt to condition Casoojee's access to his children on a R300,000 payment. The matter has since been referred to the LPC's Disciplinary Committee. Civil society organisations such as Fathers for Equality and Right to Justice have stepped in to support Casoojee's call for intervention. They argue that his case is not an isolated one, but part of a larger problem where fathers are stripped of rights due to unchecked legal practices. 'Too many fathers are being erased from their children's lives not because they are unfit, but because the system enables legal manipulation,' Casoojee said. 'This is not just about me. It is about the thousands of fathers who quietly suffer while their children grow up believing their dads abandoned them.' Attorney Kaamilah Paulse, through her law firm Herold Gie Attorneys, has denied any wrongdoing. The firm has stated it intends to challenge the tribunal's findings and maintains that Paulse acted lawfully and ethically throughout. Still, Casoojee remains determined. 'I want my children to know I never walked away. I was kept away,' he said. 'Minister Kubayi, please help fathers like me reclaim our rightful place in our children's lives.'
